After the reading of minutes , tho names of Messrs . James Stewart , Jute and Yarn Merchant , Manchester , and Joseph Hudson , Clerk , Pendleton , were put to the ballot , and this being successfnl they were afterwards prepared and regularly initiated into ancient Freemasonry , the first ceremony being performed by Bro . Threlfall P . M ., and the latter by the W . M .
The Working Tools were presented and explained by Bro . Clarkson J . W ., while the Charge of the degree was given by Bro . Clough S . W . At the festive board which followed , the usual Loyal toasts were succeeded by others of an immediate character . Brother Holland P . M ., who was responsible for introducing one of the candidates , and who explained this fact to the Brethren , proposed the health of the Initiates , which toast was responded to .
_ Bro . _ Stewart , after expressing his thanks for the enthusiastic manner in which his name had been received , said , that by the ceremony of that night a long-felt desire of his to become a Mason had been fulfilled , and he sincerely hoped that as a new member amongst them he should do credit to himself and the Lodge .
Bro . Hudson , who replied in similar terms , expressed himself satisfied with the first impressions he had derived of the Craft . Bro . Townson P . M ., who proposed the health of the Visitors , congratulated the Lodge in being able to entertain so large a number . He gave them a hearty welcome , and hoped they had been delighted with the ceremonies , both of which he characterised as having been well done .
Probably the most interesting toast of the evening was that proposed by Bro . Mosley W . M ., in honour of Bro . W . Hardcastlo P . P . G . D . C . The latter is contemplating a visit of a somewhat protracted character to New Zealand , the voyage being undertaken on account of Bro . Hardcastle's failing health After wishing him " God Speed , " the W . M . gave him the assurance that he
took away with him their united best wishes , and he sincerely hoped that the hand of friendship might be extended to him in the foreign climes he was journeying to . Brother Hardcastle responded . Songs , recitations , etc ., were given by Bros . Bradbury , G . L . Hardcastle , Burton , Roberts , and others , a pleasant evening being spent .
COTEHELE LODGE , No . 2166 .
THE regular meeting was held on Monday , 4 th inst ., at Calstock , when , this being the day for election , Bro . J . James was unanimously chosen as Worshipful Master , and Bro . H . Down P . P . G . S . of Works as Treasurer .

THE annual meeting was held at the Clarence Hotel , Piccadilly , Man-Chester , on Monday , 11 th inst ., for the purpose of installing Bro . R . W . Atkinson W . M .-elect , but owing to the illness of the W . M . Bro . J . W . Atkinson , and the W . M .-elect , the installation had to be postponed until Monday , 18 th , when by dispensation from the Provincial Grand Master the w . M . -elect was inducted into the chair of King Solomon by Bro . the I . P . M . Bro . J . W . Atkinson had discharged the duties of his office during the past year , presented him with a P . M . 's jewel , and at the same time expressed their warmest sympathy in his late sickness , hoping that he had a bright future , before him . This was gratefully acknowledged by Bro . Atkinson .
EARL OF LEICESTER LODGE , No . 2237
rpHE installation meeting was held at the New Hall , Wells , on the 11 th JL inst ., when Bro . Herbert E . Loynes was installed as W . M . for the year . A large number of Brethren and Visitors from other Lodges of the Province attended , including Bro . Hamon le Strange D . P . G . M ., who performed the

Uttley , and the second by the W . M . Bro . Higginbottom J . W . presented and explained the Working Tools to the candidates . At the festive board , Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured , songs , recitations , & c , being given by various Brethren .
FREEMASONRY IN THE K . O . S . B
WE stated a week ago that the first Freemasons' Lodge attached to 25 th regiment , the King's Own Scottish Borderers , existed from 1749 to 1815 . The Lodge chest , containing the charter , regalia ' , & c , having been lost at Munster , in Germany , a new one was consecrated at Berwick on the 5 th December 1763 .
The minutes of the Lodge St . Ebbe , Eyemouth , has the following reference to this event : — " 2 nd December 1763—A letter was presented from Lodge No . 92 on the Register of Ireland , desiring the countenance of this Lodge at Berwick on Monday next , the 5 th December , when they intended to have a Lodge Chest consecrated in place of the one they lost at Munster in Germany , which being considered by the Brethren , they referred the same to the determination of the committee which they appointed to meet on Friday for that purpose . "
" 27 th December 1763—This night Bro . Richard Turnbull reported that agreeable to the resolution of the committee the 2 nd curt ., he and several other members of this Lodge attended the consecration of a Lodge Chest for the Lodge No . 92 on the Register of Ireland at Berwick , on Monday , 5 th curt ., and that they as representing this Lodge received all the honour due to it . "
Bro . Richard Turnbull , who is described in the minute book as a " merchant in Eyemouth , " was " admitted " at a Lodge meeting held on 5 th December 1757 , and was S . W . in 1759 , when ( 15 th October ) the Lodge was " solemnly consecrated to the friendly and social purpose of Masonry " by " the Most Worshipful Richard Tod , Esqr ., Substitute Grand Master of Scotland . Mr . Francis A . Bevan has kindly consented to preside at a Special Festival Dinner in aid of the funds of the Sailors' Orphan Girls' School and Home , Hampstead , to be held at the Whitehall Rooms , Hotel Metropole , on Tuesday , the 7 th May next . The society has entered its sixty-sixth year of useful work , but the Committee are entirely without funds at their Bankers to carry on the same , and it is therefore commended to the favourable consideration of our readers . The Secretary is Mr . H . G . Holland , and the office at No . 50 Bishopsgato Street Within , E . C .

Ebbe , Eyemouth , has the following reference to this event : — " 2 nd December 1763—A letter was presented from Lodge No . 92 on the Register of Ireland , desiring the countenance of this Lodge at Berwick on Monday next , the 5 th December , when they intended to have a Lodge Chest consecrated in place of the one they lost at Munster in Germany , which being considered by the Brethren , they referred the same to the determination of the committee which they appointed to meet on Friday for that purpose . "
" 27 th December 1763—This night Bro . Richard Turnbull reported that agreeable to the resolution of the committee the 2 nd curt ., he and several other members of this Lodge attended the consecration of a Lodge Chest for the Lodge No . 92 on the Register of Ireland at Berwick , on Monday , 5 th curt ., and that they as representing this Lodge received all the honour due to it . "
Bro . Richard Turnbull , who is described in the minute book as a " merchant in Eyemouth , " was " admitted " at a Lodge meeting held on 5 th December 1757 , and was S . W . in 1759 , when ( 15 th October ) the Lodge was " solemnly consecrated to the friendly and social purpose of Masonry " by " the Most Worshipful Richard Tod , Esqr ., Substitute Grand Master of Scotland . Mr . Francis A . Bevan has kindly consented to preside at a Special Festival Dinner in aid of the funds of the Sailors' Orphan Girls' School and Home , Hampstead , to be held at the Whitehall Rooms , Hotel Metropole , on Tuesday , the 7 th May next . The society has entered its sixty-sixth year of useful work , but the Committee are entirely without funds at their Bankers to carry on the same , and it is therefore commended to the favourable consideration of our readers .
