LODGE OF SYMPATHY , No . 483 . A MEETING was held at the Clarendon Hotel , Gravesend , on Wednesday , by dispensation , as the regular date was absorbed by the meeting of the Grand Lodge of Kent , when Bro . Alfred J . Walklin I . P . M . presided , in the absence of Bro . J ; N . Willis W . M ., and opened the Lodge with the assistance of the Officers ; Bros . W . Spencer Bowen S . W ., Ernest Ingman J . W ., T . T . Hogg Treasurer , Arthur Roualdson Secretary , J . A . Gillett S . D ., J . Hewison acting J . D ., C . P . Bowen I . G ., and Robert Matthews Organist .

There were also present Bros . R . 3 . Beamish P . M ., Thos . H . Lygo P . M . ( wearing the collar of his new office as Prov . A . D . C ) , William Hawker P . M ., John Fitch J . W . 2599 , H . Collins 615 , and a large number of the Brethren . After the minutes had been read and confirmed the ballot was taken for Bro . Alfred Primey Busbridge , ' of the Royal Standard Lodge , No . 1298 , as a

joining member , which proved unanimous . The Lodge was then opened in the second degree , when Bros . W . Nice , A . Holland , F . W . Phillips , and H . A . Browne answered the customary questions of the Craftsman , and were subsequently raised to the supreme degree . The work of all concerned was admirably performed , and may be cited as the result of an excellent Lodge of Instruction .

Bro . Walklin gave the Traditional History , after which the Brethren were invested and took their seats in the Lodge as Master Masons . The Treasurer presented his report , from which it appeared that the financial condition of the Lodge was highly satisfactory , while a goodly

amount stood to the credit of the Charity Fund . The resignation of an old member and Past Master of the Lodge was accepted with regret . Bro . Lygo received the congratulations of the members upon the preferment conferred upon him by the Provincial Grand Master , and there being no further business the Lodge was closed and the meeting adjourned .

The Brethren subsequently partook of supper , and a pleasant evening was spent . * * *

FIDELITY LODGE , No . 555 . THE installation meeting was held at the Crown Hotel , Framlingham , on the evening of Wednesday , 13 th inst ., when a large number of visitors assembled for the installation of Bro . E . W . Lynch . The ceremony of installation was performed in a most impressive and finished manner by Bro . 3 . B . Eraser P . P . S . G . D ., after which the W . M . appointed and invested his Officers .

The Lodge having been closed , the Brethren adjourned to an excellent banquet , at the Corn Hall , presided over by the W . M . After the usual preliminary toasts had been proposed and honoured , Bro . Hulland proposed the especial toast of the evening—the W . M . Bro . E . W . Lynch . He said Shakespeare had bidden us in one of his plays , to " welcome the coming , speed the parting guest , " and he appreciated very highly the privilege which

had been accorded him of performing the former task , and in being that evening the mouthpiece of the meeting to express the thanks of the Brethren that Bro . Lynch had again consented to fill the chair . Lodge Fidelity was in this connection under deep obligation to him . The W . M . had a long and honourable family Masonic tradition to maintain , and right worthily had he done so . He had filled every Office in the Lodge , and carried out the

duties appertaining to each with zeal and dignity , bringing to bear upon his work a thorough earnestness of purpose , and at all times an anxiety to further the cause of tlie Craft ani the best interests of the Lodge . He ventured to bespeak for him the hearty support of the Brethren during his tenure of Office and to prophesy a record year of prosperity . He had nominated for Officers true and trusty Masons , who had in the past proved their capacity , and this augured well for success in the coming year .

The W . M ., in reply , said he was proud—very proud—of the position which he occupied , and thanked the Brethren , not only for the kind manner in which the tuast had been proposed , and for its enthusiastic reception , but also for the very many kindnesses he had received from them during the whole of his Masonic career . Having already occupied the chair of -K . S ., he was cognisant of the duties and grave responsibilities which devolved upon

him . He appreciated the trust reposed in him , and he would spare no efforts to study and further the best interests of the Fidelity Lodge and of Masonry in general . He was convinced that those efforts would be most heartil y seconded by the excellent Masons who had done him the honour to accept office under him . The W . M . said he considered himself a link with the past

for his father , grandfather , and great grandfather were Masons ; and it was by a curious and happy coincidence that when he was first installed it was just exactly a century that his great grandfather was placed in the chair of K . S . in Loage at Ballyconnell , No . 453 on the Register ot the Grand Lodge of Ireland .

TYNWALD LODGE , No . 1242 . THERE was a most successful meeting at Douglas on Wednesday evening 13 th inst ., Bros . J . A . Brown Deputy Provincial Grand Master and Samuel Webb Prov . S . G . Warden Designate , and many of the prospective Prov . G . Officers , being present .

NEWTON LODGE , No . 1661 . r [ IHE annual meeting took place on Friday , 8 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , JL ^ Newark , and was largely and influentially attended . Additional interest attached to the occasion b y the fact that the Lodge had unanimously conferred its chief honour this year on one of the most eminent Masons of the Province -Bro . Henry George , B . A . The distinguished services which Bro . George has rendered to Masonry for a long series of years

are well known to the members of the Order , and they have been recognised from time to time by his preferment to various dignities , notably that of Provincial Senior Grand Warden . Iu the Newton Lodge Bro . George has always been ready to give the benefit of his able services and wide experience in the promotion of its interests , and much of its success is undoubtedly due to his efforts and to the efficient way in which he has discharged the onerous

duties of Secretary . Though a Past Master of other Lodges , Bro . George has never occupied the position of W . M . at Newark , and when it was proposed that he should be asked to do so as some recognition of his services Bro Cosham , who was next in succession to the chair , readily and loyally waved ' his claim for the year , and the election of Bro . George was very heartily and unanimously confirmed .

The installation was not only largely attended b y members of the Newtun Lodge , but a large number of visitors attended to do honour to the occasion .

Judge Masterman D . P . G . M , and Dr . Appleby officiated at the installation , She latter acting as Installing Master . After fee Lodge meeting a banquet was eeryed at the Iowa Pall ,

Provincial.

Mrs . and the Misses George were present in the Council Chamber to assist at the reception of the guests , each of whom was presented with a button-hole . . ., The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured , and a hearty reception was given to that ' of the new Master who , in an interesting speech , reviewed his Masonic career , and expressed the deep interest he felt in the success of Freemasonry . . . .. . .

A very interesting speech , or rather two speeches during the evening , were made by Bro . J . M . McLeod ( brother-in-law of the new Master ) , who aa Secretary to the Masonic School for Boys made an eloquent appeal on behalf of the Masonic Charities .

He then vacated the chair to permit Bro . Geo . Richards P . M . 1707 to initiate his brother Mr . Arthur Richards , as also another friend of his , Mr . Ed . Livock . This arrangement not only favoured Bro . Geo . Richards , bub set the Worshipful Master at liberty . Bro . Graham therefore retired for a short time , drove from Waltham Abbey to Waltham Cross , a distance of

about a mile , and took part in the opening of the James Terry Chapter , No . 2372 as H ., and was duly elected M . E . Z . for the ensuing year . He remained until the close of the Chapter , and then returned to the Waltham Abbey Lodge . ' ... .. A sumptuous banquet was provided , and the usual toasts given . ... .. ^ .

At the same time he commented in very eulogistic language on the deep interest Bro . Graham W . M . took in Freemasonry generally .
