The minutes of the last regular meeting and of an emergency meeting held on 9 th June having been read and confirmed , Lodgo was advanced , and Bro . Joseph Coupe Holford was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason . Following a custom which obtains in many Lodges in this district , the W . & c , proposed that " the Lodge be adjourned to the 29 th day of September , " which was carried unanimously . Hearty good wishes having been expressed by visitors , the Lodge was finally dosed in peaoo and harmony . The festive board followed , loyal and Masonic toasts being introduced and responded to . That of tho Provincial Officers was replied to by Bro Geo . Brooks and J . H . Smith 581 P . M . P . D . G . S . B . Bombay , the latter dilating upon the universality of Freemasonry , and the brotherly feeling displayed to strangers by members of Lodges abroad .
Bro . Arthur Walker I . P . M . proposed the health of the Worshipful Master , and though during his speech we learned that he belonged to what is generally termed " the law , " yet his well-choson words by no means evinced signs of the documenting air of the profession . He drew attention to the fact that during the first portion of the ceremony the W . M . had corrected him in approved fashion , which showed that he was familiar with
the duties and requirements of his position . He regretted that the visitors on this occasion had not heard him perform a ceremony , for he could assure them that Bro . Scott was second to none in ritual , all which ho had previously attempted having given the greatest pleasure and satisfaction . It seemed to be his aim to excel , and his Officers , who were equal to any in Cheshire , supported him most loyally in this desire .
Bro . Scott responded . He assured his auditors that when ho looked around and saw himself surrounded on every hand by such true and sincere friends , ho felt too full to speak—in fact he was overwhelmed with gratitude . Whatever he had attempted had been done ungrudgingly to the best of his ability , and with an earnest desire to advance the interests of the Lodge . He hoped his efforts had been satisfactory , and he thought they must have
been so from tbe fact of the presence of Brethren in such numbers . At every meeting he had received the greatest kindness from all , ranging from the candidate to the Past Masters , and he had no doubt that ordinary members would be equally as helpful if called upon . Ho spoke very flatteringly of Bro . George Brooks who , as Director of Ceremonies , had not only kept him well posted up , but had helped to make his position as Master comparatively easy .
Bro . Scott then proposed the health of the Past Masters , the toast eliciting a fitting reply from Bro . Thomas Sedgwick P . M . The W . M . proposed the health of the newly-raised candidate , commending him for the attention he had given to the ceremonial , which apparently he thoroughly appreciated . Bro . Holford replied , saying he was thankful for the fact that he had
been raised to the third degree , which had made such a deep impression upon him that he should never forget it . He hoped he would be enabled to support the cause of Freemasonry throughout the whole of his life . Bro . J . E . Walker J . W . proposed the health of the visitors , giving them a hearty welcome , and asking for a repetition visit , his remarks calling forth several responses . Other toasts followed .
The harmonious element was contributed by Bros . E . Booth 461 , H . W Stafford 336 , Harding 461 , Councillor W . T . Haworth W . M . 1166 , Turner 46 li A . C Grouno 1166 , and E . Roberts P .
