rpHE meeting of the Lodge on tho 7 th inst . was coniiiderably X brightened by an addition to the usual routine of basiuesa , in the form of presentations , whioh will always be valued by the members , and whioh were as gratefully received as they were cordially made by the respective donors . It had long been known that Bro . D . A . Thomas , M . P ., had
promised the gift of a massive chair to tbe Lodge , and in fact , tho chair itself hod been ready for some time , waiting the convenience of Bro . Thomas for the formal presentation . In accordacco with his uniform generosity , C jloncl Lewis had provided a handsome case in which to place discarded regalia , in such a way that they would ever be witbiu Bight of the members in Lodge assembled . There were

Thomas rose and said he was glad that at lust the time had come when he was able to ask their acceptance at his hands of the
chair which they beheld , and he wonld now conteut himself with doing so as briefly ns possible . It had been koown to tbem all that he had loDg Bince intended making the presentation , and now that he had the privilege of doing so , he trusted that it wonld be accepted as being worthy of the Lodge . He thought the carving had been excellently done , and he veuturod to hope that it wonld at all times
be worthily filled . Ho might tell them that he had some little ambition in that way himBelf , and that his tnrn wonld come some day . In conclusion , ho begged tbem to accept the gift as an indication of his interest in the Lodgo , in spite of the fact that his attend . ance had in the pai-t been interfered with . Bro . Dancan Macdonald W . M ., said he felt snro he was
interpreting the feelings of all present , when he said that they wonld highly ? alue the houdscme gift . It was due to Bro . McKay and G . F . Harris P . M . to say that they had expended a great deal of labour in designing the chair . He was glad of the high honour conferred npen himself in his being tho first to occupy it , and he would propose that the hearty thanks of the Lodge be accorded to Bro . Thomas , and
that the same be recorded on tho minutes . Bro . Dr . Lowis seconded , and Bro . Guodfellow supported the resolution , which was unanimously agreed to , and the W . M . was placed iu tbe chair amid oheers . Bro . Lswis then rose and said that they would observe that on tho shelf before them was placed a case in which wi re saspended the old regalia which they had been called upon to doff . To him it wa-i
intolerable the regalia aronnd which were so many pleasant associations should be shut up in a box . He had thorefore had that case made , and he trusted that it would be accepted iu the same spirit as it wai given . The Worshipful Master said Bro . Lewis had nlways been a true friend to the Lodge , and that was by no means the first gift they had received at his hands . He proposed that the gift be accepted . Bro .
It . II . Davis P . M . seconded the resolution , whioh was heartily agreed to upon its being put to the vote . The Lodge was-afterwards closed , aud the members adjourned to a banquet at tbe Globe Hotel , which had been excellently prepared by Hostess Williams . The W . M . occupied the chair , and during tho evening a programme of toasts , songs , & c , was gone through and thoroughly enjoyed .

1 BOUT 50 members of the above Lodgo and soveral visitors from -t \ . other Lodges assembled , on the 19 th inst ., at the Bao Hotel , Liverpool , under the presidency of Brj . Dr . J . Kellett Smith P . P . G . R . to present Bro . John Whalley P . M . P . P . G . A . D . C . with a hand-•¦ ome gold hunting watob , and to wi 3 h him God speed on hia leaving Liverpool for New Zealand . Bro . Whalley has b 9 en a member of
the Mariners Lodge for over 20 years , and the Chairman spoko of the many good services he had rendered , not only Masonioally , but in many other respeots . The toast of his health was proposed and pledged inoet heartily , Bro . Whalley , in responding , spake of tho pain he felt in severing his connection with the Lodge , and so many
of his old friends , but having visited New Zealand before , and finding it so beneficial to his health , he had decided to take up his residence in that country . Several other toasts having been proposed and responded to , the gathering dosed , after passing a hearty vote of thanks to Bro . Bush W . M . of the Mariners Lodge , for the kindness extended to tho brethren assembled on the interesting occasion .

AT the monthly meeting on Thursday night , 7 th inst ., at the Lodge room at tho Macclesfield Arms Hotel , Macclesfield , of the above Lodge , the W . M . ( Bro . Thomas Lookitt , J . P . ) , outlined the arrangement ! for the celebration of the Centenary of the Lodge on Thursday , 5 th October . The Provincial Grand Mastor ( Lord Egerton of Tatton ) , has intimated that he will attend and take part in tbe ceremonial , and the Honourable Alan de Tatton
Egerton , M . P ., and other Provincial brethren will be present . The Lodge will meet in the Town Hall at two o ' clock ; after Lodge , the brethren will go in procession to the Old Church , where a special service will bo held , and the Rev . T . T . Higgins , M . A . ( Congleton—Provincial Grand Chaplain ) will preach . The offertory will be for the Cheshire Educational Masonio Charities and Macclesfield Infirmary .
The musical arrangements throughout have been entrusted to Bro . James Stevens and Joseph Townley , and the latter brother will preside at the organ . Aftor service , a banquet will take place at Macclesfield Arms Hotel . In connection with the interesting festival , Bro . Chas . Forshaw , LL . D ., of Bradford , who recently joined the Lodge , has Written an
ode , whioh pleasantly pourtrays the grand principles of the Craft . This , and an epitomised history of Freemasonry for the past century in Macclesfield , Congleton , and the district , will , along with the proceedings of the 5 th prox ., be printed in book form . The preparation of the history has been undertaken , at the req-iest of the Loigft , by Bro . R . Brown P . M . On tbe day of the celebrat on f f the C nteimry

Forshaw to read his Ceutenary Ode in tho Lodue on the 5 th prox . Dr . Forshaw has consented to do this , and we may state here that his " Ode" will appear in this j mrunl en tt > e 7 th Octub-r , and a fall account of the proceedings oi the 5 h will be inserted a * soon as possible .

rPHEEE was a large attendance of brethren , including a numerous -L party of visit > rs , on Tuesday , llth inst ., to witness the installation of Bro . Charles Robert Ilayball , the late S . W . of tbe Lodge . The Lodgo opened at noon , bnt waB not close tiled until three p . m ., when tho installation ceremony was very impressively performed by Bro . II . Doman P . M . P . P . G . S . D . After the ceremony the new W . M .

Tyler . The appointment of Officers over , the new W . M . hal a very pleasant and congenial tosk to perform in presenting to tbe retiring W . M ., Bro . R . E . Jackman , a Past Master ' s jewel in gold , —a gift from the members of the Lodge to mark their esteem aud regard , and also appreciation of the ability he had shown in his conduct in
tho chair during the past year . The acconnts for the previous twelve months having been passed , Bro . Catt , as honorary Secretary of the Charities Fund , announced that he had received dnring the year £ 19 17 s 6 d , and that of this sum ten guineas had alread y boon given to Masonic Charities . A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Brother Catt , also to the Installing Master , and to the Officers for
last year . At the conclusion of the Lodge the brethren adjourned to a banquet ( provided by Bro , Past Master Dore ) , spending a pleasant evening together , and separating at 8 p . m . Daring the proceedings tho heartiest of good wishes were expressed towards the new W . M . that his year of office might bo an exceedingly pleasant time , and that under his rule the New Forest Lodge might enjoy a period of much prosperity .
