had given throughout the ceremony , together with the very excellent credentials which had accompanied his introduction to the Lodge , every one present would feel satisfied that he must eventually prove a worthy member . But however good he might be as a mac , Brother Hoyland wonld impross npon him the fact that no individnal ever honoured Masonry in proportion to the honour whioh Masonry

conferred upon the individual . Bro . Katz , in reply , said that he was afraid language wonld fail him in trying to give expression to his feelings ; be therefore hoped that the brethren wonld not expect very much from him , because baviDg been so struck with what he had passed through , bid thoughts were somewhat wayward . He , however , thanked them very much

for having accepted him as a member of so ancient and honourable a society , assuring them that he would make it his stady to prove himself worthy of their confidence . Bros . Lilley , Fa ** rer , and others were called upon to favour the company with song ? , & o ., and the remainder of the evening posted pleasantly away .

The regular mooting wns held on Monday , the 11 th instant , when after the confirmation of minutes , the ballot was taken for Mr . John Edward Chapman , and proving sncceesfnl , he was initiated by Bro . Hayes W . M . In this ceremoLy , as in the one at the "Smergeuoy met ting , the task of presenting the working tools and delivering the

charge devolved npou Bro . R . W . Atkinson J . W ., and his performance was equally creditable . After the festivities which followed , the Worshipful Master proposed Bro . Chapman ' s hoaltb , and spoke of him in very warm and appreciative terms , to which the candidate responded iu a modest and effective speech , thanking the brethren for having received him

as one of their number . He had long desired to be a Mason , and now his ambition had been gratified . He spoke of the deep impression whioh the ceremony bad made npou him , and assured his auditors that he should never forget it . On this occasion the entertainment was contributed to by Brothers

THE meeting of this Lodge , on the 9 th inst ., was rendered particularly interesting from the fact of Bro . C . E . Towell P . M . presenting a life-like portrait of its esteemed I . P . M . ( Bro . F . Stretch ) . A pleasing coincidence then occurred , a similar compliment being paid to the Lodge by Bro . Stretch presenting an excellent portrait ( by Bro . Warwick Brookes ) of Bro . Towell . Bro . Myers , the

present W . M ., having previously presented his own , Bro . T . Sharpies promised to make the Doric Gallery of Worshipful Masters completo by giving ono of its first Master ( Bro . Towell , the Charity Roprcientative , announced that his Alpass list of contributions amounted to £ 40 , and tha " ; his utmost endeavours would bo exercised to complete the sum of £ 50 . This is really very good , when we consi ler this popular li tie Lodge , promoted for the " Ambassador of Commerce , " should have , daring

tho first three years of its existence , purchased £ 100 of furniture and realised upwauls of £ 100 for Charity , in addition to which a considerable balance ba 9 beeu handed over to the present W . M . With his zeal and ability and that of thos 9 " coming on , " wo may safely prophesy a long and prosperous career to a Lodge having such an excellent motto as " stat Veritas . "

M . be made an honorary member of the Lodge ,

in recognition of important services rendered . This was recoived unanimously . Refreshment followed , after whioh the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were given , the same being relieved by songa and recitations from Bros . Stolt , Slee , Bryco , Hall , Scarlett , Marshall , Roberts , & c . -

Lodge Of Instruction , No . 581 . —After an interval of three months , the members of this popular Lodge , whioh now numbers nearly 150 , wero auuimoued to commence thoir labours at Mrs .

received ; they will therefore be duly balloted for at the next meeting to be held on Tuesday , the 26 th inst . This being the first night of tbe winter session , the Lodge was closed without the rehearsal of any ceremony , this ( a raising ) being deferred until the next meeting . A very excellent tea was pirtak-m of , and a pleasant social evening afterwards spent in songa and recitations from the following : —Bros . Fred Hilton , Sam Lake , W . H . Hamnett , Jaoobson , Horaefield , & o .

Fidelity Lodge of Instruction , No . 3 .--At the Piiuce Alfred , Roman Road , Barnsbury , on the 13 th inst ., Bro . Young W . M ., Purley S . W ., Hanes J . W ., Edmonds acting Preceptor , aud several others were present . The ceremony of passing was rehearsed . Bro . Lee P . M . gave the leoture on tbe Tracing Board , and subsequently worked the first section of tbe first degree .

On the 20 th instant , Bros . Purle W . M ., Hanes S . W ., Rendell J . W ., Robinson S . D ., Trumble J . D ., Jaany I . G ., Edmonds Acting Preceptor , Gregory Secretary , The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Robinson candidate . Bro . Hanes was elected W . M . for tbe next meeting .

Metropolitan Lodge of Instruction , No . 1507 . —At the Moorgate , 15 Finabnry Pavement , on tbe 18 th instant , Brothers Price W . M ., Ellinger S . W ., Johnson J . W ., A . Scurrah S . D ., Edmonds J . D ., Samuel I . G ., Lewes Deputy Preceptor , Scales Treasurer . * The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Day candidate . Bro . Ellinger took the chair , and rehearsed the ceremony of raising , Brother Day candidate . Bro . Ellinger was eleoted W . M . for the ensuing week , and Bro . Price Organist an honorary member .

An addition to the Masonic buildings of West Lancashire will shortly be made by the completion of that now in course of erection in Orchard Road , St . Auucs-on-thc-Sea , whioh is described as a credit to all concoraed .
