well and ably supported by his Officers , who were heart apd soul not only in Freemasonry , but in its true purport ; that the Lodge was progressing , and the prosperity of it being the utmost desire and aim of every member required no testimony from him ; and that during his term of office no effort should be wanting in securing the comfort and happiness of the members .

In responding to the toast of the Visitors Bro . G . H . Slingsby P . P . G . S . B , stated how gratified he was to be present . He had reqeived a treat he should not soon forget , in . the solemnity and perfect manner in which the work had been done that evening . He should feel gratified in being able to tell the Brethren of his Province what a cordial reception he had received

from the Hugh Owen Lodge , and hoped he might on some future occasion again visit them . The other Visitors responded in gratifying terms . Under the able direction of Bro . J . B . Schrader Organist the pleasure !* of the evening was enhanced by the vocal efforts of the W . M ., and Bros- Barnett " , Glover , Spencer , Schrader , and Kohelt-A very pleasant evening was closed with the Tyler ' s toast .

UNITED INDUSTRIOUS LODGE , No . 31 . A LARGELY attended meeting was held at the Masonic Temple , Canterbury , on Thursday , 7 th inst . The attendance included the Deputy Provincial Grand Master of the Province , and a number of . present and past Provincial Grand Officers . The meeting was called for the purpose of installing Bro . G . Thorn Drury as W . M ., which ceremony was most impressively performed by Bro . H . Ward Past Deputy Grand Sword Bearer of England . At the conclusion of the ceremony the W . M . invested the Officers for the year .

The Brethren afterwards adjourned to the Boyal Fountain Hotel , where a sumptuous banquet had been prepared , about fifty sitting down .

INDEFATIGABLE LODGE , No . 237 . THE regular meeting was held at Swansea , on Monday , 11 th inst ., when Sir John T . D . Llewelyn , M . P ., made his first visit as a re-joining member , the worthy baronet having ceased about twenty years ago to be an active member . There was au unusually large attendance of Brethren , Bro . Herbert George Davies Worshipful Master Prov . G . J . D . being in the chair .

The Worshipful Master , Officers and Brethren of the Talbot , Caradoc , Aberavon , Neath , and Mertbyr Lodges officially visited the Indefatigable on the occasion . Subsequently the Brethren , to the number of about seventy , sat down to an excellently served supper at the Grand Hotel , High Street , the W . M . presiding , and being supported on his right by Sir John Llewelyn .

LODGE OF SYMPATHY , No . 483 . THE annual installation festival of this highly flourishing Lodge took place on Wednesday , 13 th inst ., at the Royal Clarendon Hotel ., Gr avesend , and was attended by one of the largest assemblies of Masons ever seen in this part of the country . Bro . William Hawker W . M . presided for the last time during his year of office , but his retirement from the chair was marked by the highly commendable manner in which he very properly installed his successor .

Bro . Hawker was supported by his Officers and the following members of his Lodge : —William Russell Provincial Grand Treasurer and A . G . D . C . P . M . 211 . The Lodge was duly opened , and the minutes of the election meeting ¦ were read and confirmed , also those of the emergency meeting held to clear off the work before the Lodge , so as to leave the evening free for the installation .

The W . M . then declared all offices vacant , and appointed Bro . W . Russell as S . W ., Bro . George Naylor as J . W ., Bro . B . J . Beamish as D . C ., and Bro . Orlton Cooper as I . G ., to assist him during the ceremony . Bro . Charles Matthews S . W . having been elected by the Brethren as Master for the ensuing year , was presented by Bro . Beamish , and signified his acceptance

of the office . The ancient charges and regulations were read by Bro . Ronaldson , and agreed to by Bro . Matthews , who was thereupon duly obligated . A Board of Installed Masters , numbering twenty-two , was formed , when Bro . Matthews was placed in the chair of K . S . according to the old rites of tradition .

Upon the re-admission of the Brethren the new Master was proclaimed and saluted in the various grades of Freemasonry , and then proceeded to invest the following Officers : —Bros . John N . Willis S . W ., A . J . Walklin J . W ., Thomas T . Hogg Treasurer , Arthur Ronaldson Secretary , W . Spencer Bowen S . D ., Ernest Ingman J . D ., J . Gillett I . G ., G . B . Ceilev Organist , C . T . LavisD . C , T . Smith A . D . C , W . Matthews , J . Axcell , C . P . Bowen , and T . A . Mummery Stewards , and George Martin , for the fifty-second year , Tyler .

The addresses to the Master , Wardens and Brethren were capitally delivered by Bro . Hawker , to whom the greatest credit is due for his rendering of the ceremony , and upon the proposition of the W . M . a cordial voto of thanks was accorded to him by the Lodge , and ordered to be entered upon the minutes .

Reports Of Meetings.

Bro . Hawker modestly returned thanks , and mentioned that he was the first W . M ., an Initiate of the Lodge , who had performed the Installation ceremony . The Lodge further presented him with a very handsome Past Master ' s jewel , together with his collar as I . P . M ., in returning thanks for which Bro . Hawker took occasion to express his gratitude to the Brethren for their kindness and consideration during his year of office . He had had an exceedingly pleasant time , and the beautiful jewel would ever remind him of some of the happiest days in his" life .

Bro . Beamish proposed , and Bro . Russell seconded , that Bro . Arthur Ronaldson should be re-elected Charity Representative of the Lodge , whielji was carried . Bro . Russell asked the Brethren to support their ** epresenta tive by their votes for the Masonic Charities , and reminded them that in cpnsequqnce of u ? ing all their influence to obtain the admission of their Boy

and Girl candidates at the recent Elections they had incurred a heavy debt , which they could only repay by the support of those Brethren who had votes . Bro . Ronaldson ' promised to carry out his duties to the satisfaction of the Lodge , as he had done in the past , and hoped the Brethren would assist him to pay off their debt .

The Treasurer ' s Report , showing a substantial balance , was received and adopted ; and the Vi s iting Brethren having tendered their congratulations to the Worshipful Blaster , the Lodge was closed in due form and the meeting adjourned . The banquet was subsequently served in th e large hall , and reflected to the

much credit upon Bro . Alfred J . Baldock , whose catering was greatly taste of the Brethren . The W . M . presided , and was supported by most of those above mentioned . Among so loyal a body of Freemasons the toast of the Queen naturally evoked considerable acclamation , nor was that of the Grand Master received with any diminution of enthusiasm .

Bro , William Russell A . G . D . C . responded for Grand Lodge , and remarked that , the wonderful development of Freemasonry of late years was undoubtedly due to the eminent personality of H . R . H . tlie ' Prince of Wales , whose natural gifts and wonderful tact brought around him men ""ho were able and willing to undertake the important work connected with the Craft . In Lord Lathom they had one of the best Pro Grand Masters ever associated

with Grand Lodge , while in their beloved Provincial Grand Master Earl Amherst they had certainly not the least successful of the Deputy Grand Masters , as his conduct of Grand Lodge when in the chair sufficiently testified to his knowledge of the duties . Personally Bro . Russell felt very proud of being a Grand Officer , but he might also regard the honour as a recognition of the efforts made by the Province of Kent on behalf of the

Masonic Charities , in which work he , as Provincial Grand Treasurer , was a good deal interested . He believed that he was the first member of the Sympathy Lodge to receive the distinction from Grand Lodge , but sincerely hoped that he would soon be associated with others . He trusted that the rapid progress made by the Lodge of late years would be maintained , and that the Brethren would have a prosperous career before them .

Bro . Edward Coste P . P . G . Reg ., the senior Officer of Kent present , responded for the Provincial Grand Lodge . Bro . William Hawker I . P . M . was heartily applauded when he rose to propose the health of the W . M . He said that Bro . Matthews was ' a good man and a good Mason , and hoped he would have plenty of work during his year of office , so as to prove to the Brethren that they had the right man in the right place .

The W . M ., in reply , expressed the great pleasure and honour he felt at being placed in . the chair of the Lodge . He would endeavour to carry out his duties to the satisfaction of the Brethren . He had a good set of Officers , and with the assistance of the Past Masters he was sure to manage very well . Bros . Biggs , Page , Hind and Cole responded for the Visitors , and the Officers , in response to their toast , promised their loyal support to the Master and the Lodge . At a late hour the Tyler was summoned and brought the proceedings to a termination .

The musical arrangements gave great satisfaction . The instrumental portion was contributed by Mr . F . and Miss Forss , and the little daughter of the W . M ., who played a solo on the piano . Among the singers were Bros . H . Drake , T . Gee , F . Webber , W . Robinson , G . Grant and C . Lavis , whose efforts met with due appreciation .

Bro . Charles Matthews , the newly Installed Blaster of the Sympathy Lodge , was born at Greenwich , in June 1858 , and was initiated into Blasonry in this Lodge , at the installation meeting in October 1890 . He has filled most of the offices in the Lodge , but , owing principally to the nature of

his avocation , that of Trinity House Pilot , he has not been able to devote so much time as he could wish to the Craft . He is , however , a Companion of the Royal Arch , having been exalted in the Sympathy Chapter , in September 1895 . He is a Life Subscriber to the Boys School , and will probably act as Steward to one of the other Masonic Institutions during his year of office .

MARMION LODGE , No . 1060 . , | T HE annual installation took place on the 13 th inst ., at the Lodge Room , I at the Municipal Buildings , Tamworth , when Bro . J . P . Watton was installed , and appointed his Officers . Bro . E . Coleman was the installing Blaster .

The installation banquet was subsequently partaken of at the Castle Hotel , Visiting Brethren being present from Walsall , Burton-on-Trent , Lichfield , Atherstone , and Birmingham .

BALA LODGE , No . 1369 . AT the Masonic Rooms , Plas Coch Hotel , Bala , on tho 12 th inst ., the ceremony ol installing Bro . Edmund Buckley as W . M . was performed in the presence of a large number of Brethren of North Wales , Bro . Ben Chadwick P . M . being the Installing Master . In the evening a banquet was held at the Plas Coch Hotel , the W . M . presiding .

EGERTON LODGE , No . 2132 . nnHE annual installation took place on the 14 th inst ., at New Brighton . I There was a fair attendance of Provincial Grand Officers and of Brethren from other Lodges . Bro . W . J . Barrett installed Bro . Edward B . Godden . Bro . E . 0 . Gaskell was elected Charity Representative . After the ceremony a capital banquet was served by BIv . F . Rollwagen , of the Albion Hotel . During the ovening a beautiful Past Blaster's jewel , with a diamond ring , was presented to thc Immediate Past Blaster Bro . J . Bewley jun .

The W . M ., in reply , expressed the great pleasure and honour he felt at being placed in . the chair of the Lodge . He would endeavour to carry out his duties to the satisfaction of the Brethren . He had a good set of Officers , and with the assistance of the Past Masters he was sure to manage very well . Bros . Biggs , Page , Hind and Cole responded for the Visitors , and the Officers , in response to their toast , promised their loyal support to the Master and the Lodge . At a late hour the Tyler was summoned and brought the proceedings to a termination .

The musical arrangements gave great satisfaction . The instrumental portion was contributed by Mr . F . and Miss Forss , and the little daughter of the W . M ., who played a solo on the piano . Among the singers were Bros . H . Drake , T . Gee , F . Webber , W . Robinson , G . Grant and C . Lavis , whose efforts met with due appreciation .

Bro . Charles Matthews , the newly Installed Blaster of the Sympathy Lodge , was born at Greenwich , in June 1858 , and was initiated into Blasonry in this Lodge , at the installation meeting in October 1890 . He has filled most of the offices in the Lodge , but , owing principally to the nature of

his avocation , that of Trinity House Pilot , he has not been able to devote so much time as he could wish to the Craft . He is , however , a Companion of the Royal Arch , having been exalted in the Sympathy Chapter , in September 1895 . He is a Life Subscriber to the Boys School , and will probably act as Steward to one of the other Masonic Institutions during his year of office .

MARMION LODGE , No . 1060 . , | T HE annual installation took place on the 13 th inst ., at the Lodge Room , I at the Municipal Buildings , Tamworth , when Bro . J . P . Watton was installed , and appointed his Officers . Bro . E . Coleman was the installing Blaster .

The installation banquet was subsequently partaken of at the Castle Hotel , Visiting Brethren being present from Walsall , Burton-on-Trent , Lichfield , Atherstone , and Birmingham .

BALA LODGE , No . 1369 . AT the Masonic Rooms , Plas Coch Hotel , Bala , on tho 12 th inst ., the ceremony ol installing Bro . Edmund Buckley as W . M . was performed in the presence of a large number of Brethren of North Wales , Bro . Ben Chadwick P . M . being the Installing Master . In the evening a banquet was held at the Plas Coch Hotel , the W . M . presiding .

EGERTON LODGE , No . 2132 . nnHE annual installation took place on the 14 th inst ., at New Brighton . I There was a fair attendance of Provincial Grand Officers and of Brethren from other Lodges . Bro . W . J . Barrett installed Bro . Edward B . Godden . Bro . E . 0 . Gaskell was elected Charity Representative . After the ceremony a capital banquet was served by BIv . F . Rollwagen , of the Albion Hotel . During the ovening a beautiful Past Blaster's jewel , with a diamond ring , was presented to thc Immediate Past Blaster Bro . J . Bewley jun .
