CONSECRATION OF THE EAST LANCASHIRE CENTURION LODGE , No . 2322 .

rjlHE ceremony of consecrating this Lodgo was performed on the JL 15 th inst ., iu the presence of upwards of oOO brethren , Assembled in the spacious Drill Hall , at tho Headquarters of the 5 th ( Ardwiok ) V . B . Manchester Regiment , Ardwick Green , fcl . u-l

Lancashire has now reached extraordinary bulk as a Province , Colonel Starkie , the Provincial Grand Muster , having now no fewer than 100 Ledges nnder his control . In further keeping with the name of this hundredth Lodge is tho fact thafc its members aro to bo drawn from holders of Her Majesty ' s commission in any of tho

Services , Naval or Military . A number of members havo joined since the warrant was applied for , and the present strength is about 30 . Although tho consecration took place in the building already mentioned , the home of the Centurion will for a time , at least , bo afc tho Freemason's Hall , Cooper Street , Manchester . The Prov .

by his Eoyal Highness the Most Worshipful Grand Master to constitute another Lodgo in this Province of East Lancashire , arid so to add one more name to the long and glorious record of Lodges under the United Grand Lodge of England . Ho ( Colonel Gierke ) need scarcely tell the brethren of East Lancashiro thafc their

Province had been for many years ono of the foremost and one of the mosfc distinguished Provinces that Grand Lodgo had upon its roll . They had increased marvellously in tho present generation , and now they had met for the purpose of celebrating the unique event of tho formation of the 100 th Lodgo in thia Province ,

a position which had not hitherto boon attained by a-iy Province under the Grand Lodge of England . Tho Provincial Grand Master , wifch that Masonic spirit for which he had been long and justly celebrated , bad been determined to make thafc u special occasion , and he had , nothwithstanding tho various cares and occupations cf

his public life , como forward to lake tho chair of that Lodge . Ifc was a compliment which ho ( tho Presiding Officer ) waa RUI \> would bo highly appreciated by tho Province over which ho ruled . Ho found that the now Lodgo was to bo mainly composed of members of tho Army . Ho could nofc bufc personally feel that this was

very appropriate , because he was suro that thoso officers of tho Army who wore going to take part in thafc Lodgo would show tho samo loyalty to tho Craffc thafc ho was confident they had hitherto shown , and always would show to their Queen and to their country . Tho offico of consecration was then proceeded with by tho Presiding

Smith proposed and Bro . Colonel Aspland seconded a voto of thanks to Colonel Shadwell Gierke , which was heartily accorded , and duly acknowledged .

UNITY AND SINCERITY LODGE , No . 261

AT the last meeting of this Lodge , held at Taunton , tho following resolution was adopted by acclamation on the proposition oi Bro . P . M . Mcyler ( Town Clerk ) .- — "That tho brethren ^ this Lodge desire to record upon the minutes thoir hearty congratulations to their Worshipfnl Master upon his appointment , by the unanimous voto of the Corporation , and with tho cordial appreciation of his

followtownsmen to the high offico of Mayor and Chief Magistrate of hia native town . " Tho W . M . responded in a suitable manner , expressing his opinion that his success in business and in public lifo had been dne to the fact thafc he had acted upon truly Masonio principles nnd

to tho confidence in himself which the work of tho Lodgo ( ivhich is the largest iu Somerset ) ever since ho first took a collar had given him . npiIE anniversary meeting waa held at tho Masonio Hall , Ipswich , J- on Monday evening , tho dth inst ., when Bro . Georgo T . Pick was installed as Worshipful Master cf tho Lodge for the ensuing year . Thero was a very large muster of tho members of the Lodge and visiting brethren . P . G . S . B . Eng ., and about 60 other brethren . The menu was an exceedingly interesting production . It contained a splendid cabinetsized photograph of the W . M ., in full Masonic clothing , and smaller portraits of tho wholo of tho Officers . The names of tho Officera were also set out , and to each an appropriate Shakespearian quotation

was allotted . The photographs wero from tlie studio of tho I . P . M . Bro . Jno . White ; for tho literary work and tho general " get np " of tho card Bro . W . B . Hanson is entitled to credit ; while tho catering , nofc tho least important portion of tho event , was mosfc satisfactorily carried out by Bro . J . llardvvick . Tho W . M . proposed tho Queen

and the Craffc , the M . W . the Grand Master , and the Pro Grand Master , tho Deputy Grand Mastrr , and the Officers of tho Graud Lodge , for whom Bro . W . Boby responded . He briefly alluded to tho inquiry which was made into tho administration of fcho Boys ' Charity , aud expressed tho hope thafc nothing which had transpired

would induce any Brother to withold hia support and sympathy from that ; Institution . Bro . W . B . Hanson proposed the Prov . Grand Mnster Lord Henniker , tho Deputy Prov . Grand Master , and tho Prov . Grand Officers . Bro . the Eev . C . J . Martyn responded , in an entertaining speech ; Bro . Townsend replied for tho Past , and

Bro . Trew for the Present Officers . Bro . Jno . White , in proposing the health of the W . M ., said ever since Bro . Pick joined the Lodgo ho had done everything in his power to promote its success , and had filled the various offices to which ho had been appointed with fcho greatest ; courtesy and zeal , und to the entire satisfaction of the Masters under whom he had served . Now thafc ho had been elevated

to tho proud position of Master of the Lodge , he felfc confident that tho brethren would show their appreciation of his worth by supporting him most heartily and loyally , and by doing all they possibly could to make his year of office a mosfc complete success . Tho Worshipful Master , who was received with loud applause , expressed

tho hope that tho brethren of tho Lodgo would rally round him , and promised thafc ho would do everything ho could to conduct tho work of the Lodge in au efficient ; manner . Before sitting down lie proposed in complimentary terms the health of fcho Installing Master , Bro . Brown , who was an indispensable member of the Lodgo .

Bro . Drown responded , and proposed fcho health of tho I . P . M ., Bro . Whit " . Bro . White responded in felicitous terms . The other toasts were tho Visitors , proposed by the W . M . and acknowledged by tho Masters of tho Lodges represented and other brethren ; the

Masonic Charities , proposed by Bro . A . A . Bennett , and responded to by Bro . N . Tracy ; the Officers of tho Lodge , and the Tyler ' s toast . The toasts wore interspersed with songs and recitations , by various brethren .

CALLENDER LODGE , No . 1052

rnilE regular meeting of this Lodgo was held on Tuesday evening , X 19 Lh instant , afc tho Masonio Rooms , King-street , Manchester . Bro . Acton Williams W . M . opened the Lodgo in duo form and with solemn prayer at 7 " 30 . The minutes of the last regnlar meeting wero read by the Secretary Bro . R . White P . M . Tho W . M . then proposed his son Mr . Eobert Williams for initiation . Bro . Campbell S . W . had

much pleasure in seconding the proposition , and on the ballot being taken it proved unanimous . The candidate was then admitted , and after answering the necessary questions ho was duly obligated by his father the W . M . in a most impressive manner , the brethren singing Masonic chaunts dnring the ceremony . Immediately after the

obligation , tho organ chimed forth that beautiful chant , " Lord have mercy upon us , and incline our hearts to keep this Law . " The corner stone lecture was then given by the W . M ., aud tho working tools explained in an efficient manner by the J . W . Bro . Tofthouse . Tho candidate then retired , and on his return Bro . Campbell S . W . gave tho charge after initiation , in an eloquent manner .

Before sitting down lie proposed in complimentary terms the health of fcho Installing Master , Bro . Brown , who was an indispensable member of the Lodgo .

Bro . Drown responded , and proposed fcho health of tho I . P . M ., Bro . Whit " . Bro . White responded in felicitous terms . The other toasts were tho Visitors , proposed by the W . M . and acknowledged by tho Masters of tho Lodges represented and other brethren ; the

Masonic Charities , proposed by Bro . A . A . Bennett , and responded to by Bro . N . Tracy ; the Officers of tho Lodge , and the Tyler ' s toast . The toasts wore interspersed with songs and recitations , by various brethren .

rnilE regular meeting of this Lodgo was held on Tuesday evening , X 19 Lh instant , afc tho Masonio Rooms , King-street , Manchester . Bro . Acton Williams W . M . opened the Lodgo in duo form and with solemn prayer at 7 " 30 . The minutes of the last regnlar meeting wero read by the Secretary Bro . R . White P . M . Tho W . M . then proposed his son Mr . Eobert Williams for initiation . Bro . Campbell S . W . had

much pleasure in seconding the proposition , and on the ballot being taken it proved unanimous . The candidate was then admitted , and after answering the necessary questions ho was duly obligated by his father the W . M . in a most impressive manner , the brethren singing Masonic chaunts dnring the ceremony . Immediately after the

obligation , tho organ chimed forth that beautiful chant , " Lord have mercy upon us , and incline our hearts to keep this Law . " The corner stone lecture was then given by the W . M ., aud tho working tools explained in an efficient manner by the J . W . Bro . Tofthouse . Tho candidate then retired , and on his return Bro . Campbell S . W . gave tho charge after initiation , in an eloquent manner .
