ST . LUKE'S LODGE , No . 225 . THE annnal meeting was held at fche Masonio Hall , Soane Street , Ipswich , on Wednesday , 13 th inst ., when Bro . Harry Cockrell was installed Worshipful Master . There was a very large attendance . The installation ceremony was impressively performed by
Bro . George Powell Price , and Bro . S . R . Anness delivered the addresses to the Master , Wardens , and Brethren respectively . The Worshipfnl Master afterwards appointed and invested his Officers . Prior to the close of the Lodge business , the brethren passed a vote of condolence with tbe Provincial Grand Master ( Lord Henniker ) in his recent domestic bereavement .
The installation banquet followed , the Worshipful Master presiding , and having proposed the loyal toasts , submitted that of the R . W . the Provincial Grand Master Lord Henniker , the Deputy Prov . Grand Master the Rev . C . J . Martyn , and the rest of the Provincial Grand Officers . Ho referred in sympathetic terms to the heavy bereavement whioh had fallen npon Lord Henniker .
Bro . H . J . Wright P . G . D . of C . responded for the Present Officers , and Bro . James Napier P . P . G . J . D . for the Past . The Worshipful Master said he was sure the brethren would be glad to make a departure from the nsnal Masonio toast list on that occasion . One of the brethren who had hononred him with his presence had very recently been elected to the high office of Chief
Magistrate of the boroogb , and he asked them to join him in drinking the health of Bro . S . R . Anness , Mayor of Ipswich . He had known Bro . Anness ever since he had been in Ipswich , and he had always entertained a very high opinion of his public services , more particularly as Chairman of the Board of Guardians . Ho wns
confident Bro . Anness would discharge the dnties of his civio office in an equally efficient manner . It was a source of great giatification lo tbe Masons of Ipswich when Bro . Anness wns elected Chief Magistrate , because it was well known that he was a most zealous nud earnest Mason . The toast was received with full Masonio
honours . The Mayor , in acknowledging the compliment , warmly congratulated Bro . Cockrell upon tho distinguished position he had achieved in Masonry . When Bro . Cockrell entered the Craft he felt certain he was destined to fill the exalted position he did that night . Ho assured the brethren thafc it was with mnch pleasuro he was
with them that evening ; he felt that in going to a Mnsonic meeting he was not departing from the rules laid down by his predecessors ' , because in Masonry they knew nothing of politics—thoy met ns brethren of a great Order , the members of which were taught to respect regularly constituted authorities . Bro . A . VV . Cook gave the Masonio Charities , coupled with the
name of Bro . Tracy , who replied . Bro . W . H . Cook , in submitting the toast of the Worshipfnl Master , spoke of Bro . Cockrell as one eminently suited for the position to which he had been elected . They all knew that his heart was in his work and thafc he took great interest in tbe Craft . They might rely upon it that whatever the Worshipful Master
undertook he would carry out in a most efficient manner . Personally he felt that they had "the right man in the right place , " and he hoped nothing would happen during his year of office to mar the happiness and good fooling which at present existed in the Lodge . The W . M ., who wns most cordially received , said he was thoroughly
in earnest in his desire to do all be conld for St . Luke ' s Lodge , and to carry out the great purposes of Masonry . A few years ago he came to Ipswich more as an operative than a speculative Mason , but he was thankful to say he had made many friends , but to none was he more grateful than he was to those who took upon themselves the
responsibility of proposing him as a member of that noble Order . He was extremely glad that his Masonio " parents , " Bro . Brooke and Bro . Talbot , were able to be present that evening . Ever since he had been in the Craft he had endeavoured to carry out the principles of Masonry ; he had endeavoured to do his duty in the Lodge , and he had gone on step by step nntil ho had arrived at the position he now held . He assured tho biethren it wonld be his great aim during
his year to do what he believed to be right and proper in the interests of St . Luke ' s Lodge . The W . M . next proposed the health of the I . P . M . He expressed his great admiration of way in whioh Bro . W . H . Cook had carried oufc all his Masonio duties . In the minor positions he was one of the smartest Officers he had ever seen , and they would all admit that he had been a splendid Master . Bro . Cook briefly responded .
