Bro . Tennant , and in bohalf of whioh he ( Bro . Tutton ) promised to nse his influence . Various presents towards the complete furnishing of the Lodge-room , such as curtains , cover for organ , & o ., were acknowledged from Bros . Cheese , Huoks , Bushel , and other brethren . The refreshment consisted of a banquet , whioh was served in firafc-class style by Bro . Stokoe , at the Crown Hotel , Hay .

The posb-prandial proceedings comprised the usual Loyal , Maionio , and other toasts , which were invested with a singular charm by the singing of the Masonio chants appropriate to each , the Lodge Organist being the leader and pianoforte accompanist . The toast of the Provincial Officers was proposed by the I . P . M , in very complimentary terms , and the toast of the Worshipful

Master was received with equal , if nofc even greater enthusiasm . It was proposed by Bro . Bailie , who remarked thafc there was not a more earnest Mason in fche Lodge than Bro . Tutton , and it was owing fco hia persistent endeavours that the Lodge was started . He felt certain that in this coming year the Lodge would not only reflect hononr upon themselves and upon Bro . Tatton , but that the latter wonld

also reflect hononr upon them . In responding , the W . M . mado a touching reference to the bereavement sustained by the Prov . Grand Officer who would otherwise have conducted the installation . The Province had fih exceptionally good Officer in Bro . Tennant , a master of the Craft whom they all delighted to honour . Referring to his election as W . M . of

the Lodge , Bro . Tutton said he waa very proud of the honour whioh the brethren had thus imposed upon him , and they might rest assured thafc he shonld do his utmost fco promote the beat interests of the Lodge in every way . Bro . E . H , Cheese proposed the Visiting Brethren , who returned thanks .

The W . M ., in proposing the Officers of tho Lodgo , eloquently spoke of each of them in turn , saying how confidently he accepted the position of Worshipful Master , in the knowledge that he would have the staunch and able support of every one of them . He testified thus especially of the I . P . M . Bro . Golesworthy , whose name was associated with his in tbe founding of the Lodge , in the

establishment of which every one of tbe older members had so cordially assisted . He also alluded in complimentary terms to Bros . E . H . Cheese ( the new Treasurer ) , C . T . Evans , and T . T . Evans , and thanked Bro . Halstead for tho introduction of tho musical chants . Tbe toast was well . received . The Officers suitably replied , and the Senior Warden took the opportunity of urging the brethren to continue fcheir Lodges of

Instruction , by means of whioh the Lodge had so greatly benefitted . The toasfc of fche Masonio Charities was accompanied by the usual collection on their behalf , and fche W . M . announced thafc he had the privilege , throngh the Lodge , of giving five guineas to tbe new Pror . Charity advocated by Bro . Tennant . In the intervals between the speeches , songs and recitations were rendered .

Evening Star Lodge of Instruction , No . 1719 . —This Lodge of Instrnction haa been but recently established , and is held every Saturday evening daring the winter months at tho Rutland Hotel , Perry Hill , Catford , S . The Master Cutler of Sheffield , Bro . Geo . Howson and the Mistress Cutler will give a children ' s fancy dress ball at the Cutler ' s Hall , early in the new year .

The fifth annnal ball arranged by the West Ham Abbey Lodge , in aid of the funds of the West Ham Hospital , was held at the Town Hall , Stratford . It is thought thafc the result , with the other efforts of the members , will equal , and possibly exceed thafc of former years , ifc being likely thafc upwards of £ 300 will be contributed to the useful institution on whose behalf the ball was held .

Freemasonry appears to have obtained a firm footing amongst English journalists , and afc the present moment several members of the profession are filling prominent positions in the Craft . The Gallery Lodge , which takes its name from the parlimcntary reporters' gallei-y , has a roll

of between 60 to 70 members , all of whom are journalists ; and at the installation meeting nexfc Saturday , Mr . J . C .
