CAPPER LODGE , No . 1076 .

rilHE brethren of this Avell-established Lodgo met at their new X quarters , the Guildhall Tavern , Gresham-street , E . G ., on the Sth inst . This was the last meeting of tho season , and the confirmation of tho minutes of previotts meeting evoked considerable interest , and attracted a large attendance . Although there was no ceremonial working , the proceedings may be regarded as a rod letter day in the annals of the Capper Lodge . For some years past this Lodge has

been amongst tho foremost in supporting the Charities , and during tho last year , under Bro . J . White ' s Mastership , an appeal was made , and that successfully , to Wie brethren to subscribe individually a small amount to each of the three Institutions . Encouraged by success , our esteemed Bro . White I . P . M . had placed a notice of motion upon tho agenda paper for the annual

subscnption to be increased by half a guinea , such increased amount to be devoted solely to provide a fund to secure to the Lodge Vice Presidencies of tho Institutions . This notice , together with one by Bro . H . Taplay J . W ., to diminish the number of meetings in the year by two , had previously been discussed , and prior to confirmation raised a long and interesting discussion . It was ovidenb each

speaker had the distinguishing characteristic of a Freemason—Charity—well at heart , and the discussion came to a creditable and satisfactory termination nnder XV . Bro . F . Brien ' s genial presidency . Tho motion to limit the number of meetings was not sustained , but the proposal of Bro . I . P . M . White Avas carried amid many marks of approval . Lodge having been closed ,

the brethren repaired to discuss an excellent supper , to which , OAving to the interest shewn in the evening ' s proceedings , a very numerous body sat down . After doing ample justice , and tho table being cleared , —which latter process occupied much more time than ib need have done , —the W . M ., in appropriate terms , gave the usual Loyal and Craft toasts . These having been

duly honoured , Bro . I . P . M . White proposed the health of the W . M . who , he said , had reached a most interesting portion of his year of office , viz ., the summer vacation . He trusted they would all meet him well after tho holidays . This was received Avith great enthusiasm , and after Bro . M . W . Sherwin ( Organist ) had sung " The Friar of Orders Gray , " the W . M . thanked tho brethren

sincerely for their kind reception of his name . This being the last meeting of the season , he would express his appreciation of the support he had received . Certain important questions had cropped up in the Lodge , and although in treating them we were not unanimous , yet he was sure all had acted conscientiously , and had at all times supported him in conducting the business of the

Lodge . He trusted tho G . A . O . T . U . wonld enable them to meet again in September . Bro . Gerrard King here favoured the brethren with a humorous account of a very tongh "tail" indeed . The W . M . having given the "P . M ' s ., " which was cordia'ly received , Bro . White as the I . P . M . said he wished the brethren all much enjoy - ment and hearty good wishes until they met again . Bros . West

and Gaskell also replied for tho P . M . 's , aud the toast of the Visitors followed . The W . M . said the Capper Lodge had always a hearty welcome for Visitors , and he was glad to see them there . Bros . Rclph , Benjamin and Ives having returned thanks , Bro . G . King said he had thoroughly enjoyed himself , and yet , " beggar that I am , I am even poor in thanks . " The W . M . next claimed attention for

a very important toasb , " the Masonic Press , " he felt the Craft owed much to tho Press for its able championship of the Masonic Charities , and for placing the current Masonic news clearly before them . He had perused , with pleasure , an excellent article in the FEEEMASON ' CHRONICLE that Aveek , ably advocating the claims of the Charities . He wonld connect the name of Bro . G . H . Stephens with the toast . A

hearty response to this Avaa followed by a recitation , tho three Warnings , by Bro . Foster . Bro . Stephens thanked tho W . M . and brethren for proposing and giving so hearty a reception to tho toast coupled with his name j he was sure , whilst its efforts secured the support of the Craft , " as on that occasion , the FREEMASON ' S CHBONIC . E would not be found Avanting in

an efficient discharge of its duties . " The Officers" followed , and was well received . Bro . W . McCarthy S . W . returned thanks . Ho alluded to the good Avork done in the Lodge , of which he felt proud . He likened the labonrs of the brethren in the | direction of charity to the fitting out of a Life-boat , and trusted that he would find the Lodge always engaged in chariby . Bro . H . Tapley J . W . endorsed bhe S . W . ' s sentiments , and Bro . J .

Mitchell Sec . was glad his efforts for the good of the Lodge were appreciated . Bro . Job S . D . also thanked the brethren for so cordially toasting the Officers . He regarded that day as a most memorable one in the Capper Lodge . He trusted no brother would require the assistance they had that day decided to afford when ifc was necessary ; and Avhilst they were working for so good a cause they might remember

We return our sincere thanks to these brethren who so kindly placed their proxy papers at our disposal . Ifc gratifies us to know that each of the candidates we Avere interested in was successful on Friday last . We omitted to mention in onr last , thab bhe number of candidates

was raised to 22 in the case of the males , and 18 of the females , in consequence of deaths which had taken place since the voting papers were issued . Tho names of those who were elected to fill bhe deabh vacancies were—John Everisb , W . R . Colvillo , J . H . Wilkinson , James Elson and Samuel Lazarus ; Julia M . Lyon , Cabherine E . Parbridge , Ann Walbers and Harriob Henderson .

Ib is mosb satisfactory to notice the energetic manner in which the brethren of tho Western Divison of South Wales have como forward recently in support of our Institutions . As wo mentioned after tho last Festival , in February Bro . Robert Margrave , tho P . S . G . W . of bhe Province , came forward wibh a lisb Avhich was

afterwards augmented to -6273 , and it was mainly through his instrumentality that Bro . Ben Lyon was elected to the benefits of the fund . This was the first time the Province had sent a Steward to the

Benevolenb Insbibubiou , and tho fact of so large an amount being raised reflects the highest credit on Bro . Margrave , and justly entitles tho Province to tho success which they scored so triumphautly at lasb week ' s election .

Bro . S . Lazarus requests us to thank Bro . N . B . Headon , P . M . The Great City Lodge , for bhe substantial help he gave him ; by this assistance Bro . Lazarus was enabled to take position amongst ; tho successful candidates . At the request of a correspondent we have pleasure in quoting the

A waggish friend—whose credibility AVO can rely on—tells us the brethren of Sussex did well in this case—very Avell ; in fact they got all tho 1513 votes polled for tho candidate , Avith tho exception of over fifteen hundred obtained by tho brethren in London who so zealously conducted the case .
