THE President of the Board Bro . J . H . Matthews occupied the chair on Wednesday evening , at the monthly meeting , while Bros . D . D . Mercer Senior Vice-President , and Henry Garrod Junior Vice-President were in the other two chairs . The Board , which was well attended , confirmed the
recommendations which they had sent to the Grand Master at the May meeting , to the amount of £ 2 bo , and in dealing with twenty-three new cases recommended Grand Lodge to approve of gifts of £ 75 each in two cases , and £ 50 each in
two others . They asked the Grand Master to approve of donations of two sums of £ 40 , and four sums of £ 30 each . They gave £ 20 in two cases , £ 10 in two other cases , and £ 5 to one person . Five petitions were dismissed , and three deferred .

nnHE report presented to the meeting of the Finance JL Committee of the Durham Masonic Charities , at which Bro . T . Coulson , of South Shields , presided , on Saturday , 10 th inst ., was highly satisfactory . The report referred to the recent Festival , by , means of which it was hoped to raise the Masonic Education Fund and the Hudson Testimonial
Fund to £ 3 , 000 each . The success of the Festival exceeded all expectations , and after the Funds had been raised to the desired amount , there was still a balance of £ 80 in hand . The Committee decided to add this amount to the Education Fund .
