THE THEATRES , & c .

— : o : — Princess ' s . —Six years back Bartley Campbell produced hia Russian play " Siberia . " We are nofc aware that it then proved successful j we should tbink not . Why , tberefore , Miss Hawthorne should have decided to produce ifc iu London for the Christmas

holidays we can hardly conceive , for we are sorely afraid it will not prove remunerative . That " Siberia " has some good situations wo cannot deny ; bufc these are more than lost sight of by the quantity of poor material that bristles throughout . For instance , there is not a good point in the second act ; many of the situations begin absurdly and with improbable incidents . Then , when the prisoners are leaving

for Siberia , there is some conversation thafc is both out of place and unnecessary . The story treats of the persecution of the Jews in Russia , and their sufferings are vividly depicted in the earlier portions of the play . Next we have the attempted murder of a governor by a Jewish girl , followed by the departure of the prisoners to Siberia . In a well staged and picturesque scene is shown how a

revolt in the mines is brought about , with result that all the principals manage to escape fco Odessa , where they would have again been taken if the Governor-Goneral had nofc intervened . These situations are exciting , but they are unsavory . Very little could be done by the artistes with their parts . Mr . J . H . Barnes was enthusiastic as the leader of the revolt . Mr . W . L . Abingdon was hardly cunning enough

as the General , but Mr . Harry Parker and Miss Cicely Richards worked hard and successfully with the comic parts . Mr . Forbes Dawson was seen to advantage , while Mr . Bassett Roe displayed a mosfc brutal taskmaster . Miss Grace Hawthorne waa sufficiently powerful as the Jewish girl , while Miss Mary Rorke was a most

affectionate sister . Other parts , too numerous to mention , were fairly well handled . The audience , which displayed an enfchusiastical turn of mind , pronounced the piece an unqualified success . Still we are afraid this will not be endorsed by the general body of playgoers . This afternoon , ( Saturday ) a series of matinees of " Uncle Tom ' s Cabin " will be started .

St . James ' s . —The representation of " Lady Clancarty " is the firsfc revival of fche final season of Messrs . Hare and Kendal afc this theatre . Ifc is to be regretted that such a happy and , we hope , successful partnership i-i to be dissolved . The caste for the present revival ia almost the same as that of last season . Mrs . Kendal's portrayal of Lady Ctanoarfcy contains some artistic points which have been touched np by experience . Mr . Kendal has greatly

improved on his first rendering of Lord Clancarty . His Irish accent is now perfect , while the scenes with his wife are well conceived . Mr . Mackintosh is capital as the King , bufc Mr . R . Cathcarfc and Mr . Webster are too stiff , as the Earl of Portland and Lord Woodstock . Mr . Lewis Waller is allotted the small part of Sir George Barclay , while Miss Blanche Horlock makes a mosfc effective Lady Betty Noel . Several interesting revivals are promised for future dates .

The monthly meeting of the Board of Benevolence was held on Wednesday , at Freemasons' Hall . Bro . R . Grey P . G . D . presided , and Bros . James Brett P . G . P . ancl 0 . A . Cottebrune P . G . P . were in their respective chairs . . There

Hor . r , owAir ' s OISTMBJTI ! AND Pitts . —Colds , Coughs , Shortness of Breath . — These maladies require early and unremitting attention , for if neglected thoy oftcn end in asthma , bronchitis , or consumption . The Ointment well rubbed upon the chest and back , penetrating tlie skin , is absorbed and carried directly to tho lungs , whence it expels all impurities . All the blood in the body is perpetually passing throngh the lungs , ancl there all noxious particles

tending to disease can be quickly , thoroughly , and permanently neutralized , rendered harmless , or cjerted from the system . Holioway ' s Ointment and Ti'ls perfectly accomplish this purification ; and through the blood thus cleansed the influence of these wonderful medicaments readiest the remotest parts nf the human body , ancl thus cures all diseased action , whether internal or external .
