Money spoke of the flourishing state of the Boys School , and said the teaching of the Girls School was so good that the whole of the present staff had been pupils at the School , and one of them had recently obtained honours at the London

University . As to the Aged , there were 400 annuitants , 32 " of them at the central home . The Province had been fortunate in carrying through every candidate it had brought forward for these several Charitable Institutions , which ,

therefore , had special calls upon them . Bro . George Corbie P . P . J . G . W . Essex replied , and remarked that he was specially commissioned by Bro . McLeod Secretary of the Boys School to thank the

Cambridgeshire Brethren for the handsome way in which they supported the Centenary Festival . That Festival was a truly remarkable one . The Board would have been satisfied if it had realised £ 100 , 000 but they actually received . £ 140 , 000 .

NORFOLK .

IN the report of the installation on the 1 st December of Bro . Hamon le Strange as Provincial Grand Master of Norfolk and of Sir Francis G . M . Boileau , Bart ., as Grand Superintendent of the Province , in succession to Lord Suffield , who had retired from both positions , we omitted to

give the full text of his lordship ' s valedictory address , which was read on that occasion . It was as follows , says the " Eastern Daily Press " : — - 1 st December 18 9 8 . To the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master , and

to the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent of Provincial Grand Chapter of the Province of Norfolk , and Brethren and Companions . In resigning the high offices which I have had the honour of holding for many years , as your P . G . Master and

Grand Superintendent , I feel that the least I can do is , if only in a few words , to bid you from my heart farewell ; in the sense only of wishing that you may continue in the highest prosperity and usefulness ; not to bid you good-bye , for I hope to have opportunities of being with you , though in a subordinate position , very often again .

Norfolk.

I have , indeed , to thank you for the unvarying kindness and loyalty which you have always evinced towards me ever since I was appointed to the high and responsible offices which I now resign . It would not be true if I were to say that I do not feel

regret in quitting the high and honourable positions I have occupied in the Province of Norfolk as your Provincial Grand Master and Provincial Grand Superintendent . At the same time I cannot but feel great satisfaction in the fact that I am succeeded in these offices by two of the

best know and universally popular Masons in Norfolk—good and true men , hi g hly respected by all . Each in their several duties will , I am confident , prove worthy to hold the distinguished position to which His Royal Highness , the Grand Master , has been pleased to appoint him .

Dear friends of my own , both of those who succeed me , I heartily wish them all the success which follows such worth as they possess in the highest degree . Brethren and Companions , I now beg to express my

confident hope that all in subordinate positions in the Craft will accord to my successors the same loyal support which you have for so many years afforded me , and for which I now desire to express my heartfelt gratitude and thanks . I beg to remain , yours most sincerely and fraternally , SUFFIELD .

Presentation At Stonehouse.

PRESENTATION AT STONEHOUSE .

AT the regular monthly meeting of Metham Lodge , No . 1205 , at Stonehouse , on the 21 st , the opportunity was taken to present Bro . D . Cross P . P . G . T ., who for twentytwo years has been the Treasurer of the Lodge , with a tangible memento of the appreciation with which his long services are regarded by the Brethren . In the absence of the W . M ., Bro . W . Powell P . P . G . T . presided .

The J . W . Bro . J . B . James , who had taken a very active part in arranging the presentation , said the Brethren recognised that their esteemed Treasurer had rendered valuable service to Lodge Metham , and the mark of regard which they had subscribed for was well merited . His best

energies and abilities had at all times been devoted to Masonry , and they trusted that Bro . Cross would receive the token of their sense of gratitude to him as some little equivalent for all that he had done for the Order . The younger Brethren particularly wished to show their appreciation of his able services and willingness to instruct them .

On behalf of the subscribers , Bro . W . Powell P . P . G . T then made the presentation , which consisted of an enlarged photograph of Bro . Cross and his wife , handsomely mounted in plush and a gold frame , the work of the Scenerique Photographic Company . It bore the inscription :

Presented to W . BBO . D . CBOSS , P . M ., P . P . G . T ., by members of Lodge Metham , No . 1205 , in recognition of his valuable services to Masonry .. Bro . Powell remarked that he owed Bro . Cross a great debt of gratitude . He was the second oldest member of the

Lodge , and ever since its formation had been actively engaged in assisting in the work , having been the Treasurer for twenty-two years . They knew how well he had

performed those duties . It was especially gratif y ing to Bro . Cross to know that the presentation was not made out of the funds of the Lodge , but had been spontaneously subscribed for by individual members .

In responding , Bro . Cross said that in what he had done for Lodge Metham and for Masonry he had been actuated by love and duty . The memento of their friendship came as a pleasant surprise to him and was marked by a sense of

enhanced value by the fact that it was given by individual members , instead of from the Lodge itself . He heartily thanked them for their gift , which he said would be an incentive for future work in the interests of Masonry .

The Friendship and Zetland Lodges , jointly , gave their annual treat to the aged poor of Cleckheaton , on the 21 st , in the Town Hall . The invitations issued were 175 , and 14 6 acceptances . After tea an entertainment was given , Bro .

G . H . Niven presiding . On departure , each guest was presented with a parcel of groceries , a present of a shilling being added by Bro . Alfred Law , The Grange . The latter portion of the evening was utilised by the Brethren , their wives and friends , for dancing .
