admission of Messrs . J . C . B . Richardson and John Lewis Holmes , and being unanimous in their favour , these gentlemen were duly inv . tiated into the Order in a very able and perfect manner . A Board of Installed Masters was opened , and Bro . Collyer S . W . and W . M . elect was presented and duly installed into tho chair by the re . tirin- ' W . M ., who conducted the ceremony in a perfect and im .

pressive manner , and was warmly congratulated by the brethren and visitors . There were twenty-four Installed Masters present . On the readmission of tbe brethren , the Worshipful Master was saluted according to ancient custom , and he , in appropriate terms , appointed and invested his Officers , as follow : —Bros . Wardell I . P . M ., B . H . Ruff S . W ., Machlin J . W ., Edinger P . M . ( re-appointed )

Secretary , Swan S . D ., Knight J . D ., Jntsnm I . G ., Manning M . O ., Speight P . M . Tyler . This selection seemed to g ive general satisfaction . The Worshipful Master regretted the absence , through illness , of Bro . Davis P . M ., who had been elected Treasurer ; however , he hoped to see him among them shortly . It was then proposed that a letter be sent to the worthy Treasurer , who bad recently met witb an

accident , expressing a hope for bis speedy recovery ; this waa carried unanimously . Hearty good wishes were given by the numerous visitors , and Lodge was closed . The brethren , fifty in number , sat down to a sumptuous banquet and dessert , provided by Bros . C . and A . Painter . The Worshipful Master , in genial and eloquent terms , proposed tbe usual Loyal and Masonio toasts . Bro .

Wardell I . P . M . rose ; he had a toast to propose which was always received witb pleasure—tbe bealtb of tho Worshipful Master , who he ( Bro . Wardell ) had known for twenty years . Bro . Collyer was well known to the Officers of the Masonic Charities , and he had brought good and intelligent brethren into tbe Lodge . The members had recognised his worth , and had unanimously elected him . At the

expiration of bis year of office he was sure they would see they had selected one worthy to rule over them . The Worshipfnl Master , in response , thanked Bro . Wardell for his kind expressions . ^ and the brethren for the manner in which the toast bad been received . He hoped to merit the kind expressions elicited ; his only aim would be for their benefit . In proposing the toast of the Immediate Past

Master , the W . M . thanked him for the able manner in whioh he had performed the ceremony of initiating tbe newly-made brethren ; be also expressed the great pleasure he had received in being installed in so satisfactory a way . He had now great pleasure in presenting him with the jewel of the Lodge ; every member and visitor must agree that Bro . Wardell well deserved it , and be ( the W . M . ) hoped he

might be spared for many years to carry out the duties of the Lodge . Bro . Wardell thanked them for the elegant jewel jnst presented to him ; he thought he had done but very little dnring his year of office , but lie was pleased to know bis efforts were appreciated , by them . Witb tbe toast of the Visitors , to whom the Worshipful Master gave a cordial welcome , was associated the names of Bros .

Wardell P . P . G . D . Essex and Charles Lacey P . P . G . D . Herts , the latter of whom spoke of the excellent manner in which tbe W . M . had presided , and also how admirably the ceremony of installation had been performed ; in fact , he might say he had never seen it more perfectly rendered . He hoped the Worshipful Master would have a happy year of office . In speaking to tbe toast of the Initiates ,

the W . M . said they bad the good fortune of being initiated in a Lodge where he felt , from what had been said by their visitors , the ceremonies were perfectly performed ; and he was sure , by the attention each bad given to tbe working , that tbey were deeply impressed . Bro . Richardson , in an excellent speech , responded , and Bro . Holmes followed , the latter remarking that this had been one of

tbe most pleasant evenings of his life ; he felt honoured in being proposed by Bro . Swan , and seconded by Bro . Ruff , aud he was gratified that be bad gone through tbe ordeal of initiation . He hoped to qualify himself to do all required of him . The Worshipful Master then proposed the toast of the Past Masters , who , on the present occasion , wero present in goodly numbers . However , they

had ono regret , and that was the absence of their esteemed Treasurer . He would call on Brother Marriott to respond . After an able response from Brother Marriott , the W . M . proposed Prosperity to tbe Masonio Charities , That nighfc was being held tha Anniversary Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution ; he wished that Institution every success , and hoped that Brother

Knight , who will act as a Steward for the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , would be well supported by the members . The Treasurer and Secretary of the Lodge were next complimented , and Bro . Edinger P . M . and Secretary replied . Bros . Knight , Swan , and Jutsum responded for the Officers , and then the T yler ' s toast was given , and tho brethren separated after passing a very agreeable and harmonious evening .

THE annual invitation ball and supper was held in the rooms of the Eoyal Pavilion , on Wednesday evening , tho 15 th instant . Although at this season there aro a great many balls being beld , it was the general opinion of those present that this ball was tho most enjoyable , every one present being highly delighted with the arrangement . made . Tho company numbered over 200 . The

committee appointed for carrying out tbe necessary duties were Bros . J . W . Stride P . M ., A . J . Hawkes P . M ., G . S . Godfree , H . Kent , P .. Paige , A . H . Thackor , with J . B . Hannay acting as Hon . Secretary , and through whom everything was carried out in such order that it conduced materially to tbe enjoyment of all . with his usual good taste and skill . Messrs .
