THK WEST SMITHFIELD LODGE OF MAEK MASTERS , No . 223 . THIS Lodge met at the Masonic Lodge room , 8 A Red Lion-sqnarp , Holborn , on Friday , the 17 th inst ., the W . M . Bro . H . J . Lardner being well supported by Officers and members , and a good working evening resulted . Amongst thoso present were the following , viz ., Bros . T . Booth S . W ., G . S . Elliott as J . W ., R . Greenwood M . O ., C . F . Goodenough S . O ., Appleton J . O ., W . Pennefather Sec , E . Gilbert

P . M . and Treasurer , Brickdale , Brasher , Smyth , and others . The V . W . Brothers Donald M . Dewar P . G . M . O . Assistant Grand Mark Secretary and James Stevens P . G . J . O ., & c . & c , were also present , and assisted in the work of advancement . The minutes having been

read , several brethren were balloted for as candidates , and of these Bros . H . J . Ewins of the Lebanon Lodge , " No . 1326 , and J . II . Rmnbali , C . J . Smith , H . K . Clisby , aud P . H . Clisby , all of the West Smithfield Lodge 1623 , being iu attendance , were severally

introduced and duly advanced to tho honourable degree . The W . M . announced his intention to represent the Lodge as Steward at the next Festival of the Mark Benevolent Fund , and the brethren generally promised to support him . The Lodge was closed after some small matters of business detail had received attention , and

the brethren adjourned to the Holborn Restaurant , at the invite of the W . M ., who is well redeeming a former promise that his year of office should greatly advantage and materially increase the prosperity of tho Lodge .

Bro . R . C . Harrison , Junior Warden of the Chancer Lodge , No . 1540 , will preside at the meeting to bo held at the Grapes Tavern , St . Thomas-street , Borough , on

Tuesday next , 28 th inst ., when Bro . James Stevens VMP . Z . has undertaken to deliver his lecture on the Ceremonials of the First Degree . Lodge will be opened at 7 p . m . precisely .
