After tbe reading and confirmation of the minutes of the last regular meeting , and tbe acceptance of the auditors' report , a board of Installed Masters was formed , and Brother Robert Caldwell P . M . P . P . G . S . B ., assisted by the Past
Masters of the Lodge , proceeded to instal into the chair of K . S . Brother Snronel Mills S . W . We suppose that no Officer in the Province of East Lancashire has performed so many installation ceremonies as Brother Caldwell can boast of , and to say anything with regard to the manner in which be acquitted himself would , to those who are familiar with him and his method of working , be
simply an act of supererogation . It is therefore only necessary to admit that he fully maintained his reputation , and the function under his careful guidance was satisfactory in every way . Bro . Caldwell is' a man who likes to put every Officer into harness , and on this occasion the ceremony was submitted to a diecerption whioh gave each aspirant a chance . Bro . Foxcroft I . P . M . presented the working
tools of the various degrees ; and Brother Godby P . M ., who gave the charges to tbe Master , Wardens , and Brethrei , proved by the manner in which he acquitted himself that he had made a very efficient study of his part . During tbe afternoon two guineas were , npon the proposition of Brother Sawyer P . M ., voted to tbe Mellor Tesimonial Fund , and tbe Immediate Past Master announced as a
joining member of the Lodge Brother T . Nesbitt . An application from a brother for immediate relief was referred to a Committee of Past Masters , who afterwards dealt with the case in a manner beneficial to the applicant . At the festive board whioh followed , the I . P . M . proposed the toast of the W . M ., and said tbat ho experienced a feeling of strangeness in addressing tbem as Past Master Fox .
croft . In a short and pitby speech he alluded to the merits of their new Worshipful Master , said that he had known him for many years , and expressed himself as confident that he would do his duty to the best of bis ability . The Worshipfnl Master responded in brief terms , and thanked them for the great hononr which they had conferred npon him by placing him in the principal chair . The
saooeeding toast of tbe Immediate Past Muster , which fell to the lot of the Worshipful Master to propose , was , though short , a very excellent one . He referred to tbe past services of Brother Foxcroft , and admitted that nothing gave him greater plea in re than tbat of placing upon his breast a handsome gold jewel , which was a significant testimony of the respect in whioh he was held by his brethren . He
sincerely hoped tbat he would livo long to wear it . Brother Jackson Past Master proposed the toast of the Installing Master , saying that he very much regretted tbe absence from the festive boird of Bro . Robert Caldwell , who had been compelled to leave , them on accoonfc of failing health . He praised his method of performing tbe ceremony of installation , and spoke of his having done similar duty twenty
years ago . In the absence of Brother Caldwell , Bro . Godby responded .
