6 . REPORT OF THB BOAliD OF GENERAL PURPOSES . To the United Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of England .
The Board have to report that it has appeared from tho return njade by a Country Lodge tbat a Brother had been passed on tbe 16 th May 1892 , who had been initiated on the 19 th April 1892—the 18 th April , the day of regular meeting , being a Bank Holidaycontrary to Bole 195 of the Book of Constitutions . The Board decided tbat the Brother irregularly advanced must be re-obligated in the second and third degree before a certificate can be granted .

fpHERE was a strong mnster of the membera of this ancient Lodge J- on Monday , the 20 th inst ., to witness the initiation of Mr . Jar : Dampier Palmer , M . P . for the Borough of Gravesend . The brethren assembled at 6 * 30 p . m . at the New Falcon Hotel , soon after whioh hour the W . M . Bro . Rev . Augustus Jackson , M . A ., assumed the ohair , being supported by Bros . George Rackstraw Senior Warden , Thomaa Nettleingham Junior Warden , William Hill P . P . G . J . W ., George T .

The minutes of the last meeting having been read , and the Treasurer ' s report received , tbe ballot was taken and proved unanimous in favour
of Mr . James Dampier Palmer , who , being in attendance , was brought before the Lodge and duly initiated into the mysteries and privileges of ancient Freemasonry by Bro . Augustus Jackson . The Ancient Charge was delivered by Bro . R . J . Beamish P . M ., from the Master ' s chair . On the motion of Bro . Joseph Solomon and secpnded by Bro . P . M . King , the sum of ten guineas was voted from the funds of
the Lodge to head the list of the W . M . as a Steward representing tho Lodge at the Benevolent Institution Festival . This concluding the business , the Lodge was closed in perfect harmony , and the brethren adjourned to th-i banquet room , where an excellent dinner was served by Bro . Simpson in tbe admirable manner usually observed at his famous hostelry . The nsn il Loj ; il and Masonio toasts were dnly
hononred , afier wbicb the VV . M . proposed tbe Initiate . He said that the Lodfje wore most pleased to leceive such a distinguished brother among thorn , and tbey trusted lie would soon experience the utility and benelit of Freemnsonry . Tno new brother was a member of the legislature of that country upon which the aun never sets , and he bad now joined an institution which was placed in a similar position
us the brethren knew that the sun waa always at its meridian with respect to Freemasonry , lie hoped Bro . Palmer would continue to take an interest as well as a pleasure iu the Craft , so that pasting the vatious offices be would in time achieve the proud distinction of Master , and in dna course reverse the letters after bis name , and in addition to M . P . he woald bo able . to place P . M . Brother
Dampier Pnlaier , who , on rising , mot with an enthusiastic reception , said tbat he bad ascertained every initiate had to respond to this toast , no matter what his position might be , and though he bud a difficult task before him he must follow in the beaten truok . It struck him as being a wide jump from the solemnity and impressiveness of the ritual in the Lodge room . to
tbe pleaaent social gathering they were then enjoying ; and so great was the difference tbat he hardly knew how to express his feelings . For many years lie bud desired to become a member of the Craft , but fcho occasion had not presented itself . He therefor * eagerly embraced the opportunity of joining and was particularly pleased to bolonjf to the Lodge of Freedom , wherein he found so mauy friends .
The brotherly u ' ea now binding bim he should never forget , and wonld endeavour to follow up the path pointed out to bim by the W . M . Lie thanked them one and all for the more than kind way in which they had received him , and li 8 ambition would be to retain the fraternal regards lavished upon him that , night . Brother Joseph
