ARMY AND NAVY LODGE .

THE Army and Navy Lodge , No . 2738 , the latest addition to the long roll of English Lodges , was consecrated on St . Valentine ' s Day , at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street , E . G ., by' Bro . Edward Letchworth Grand Secretary , who was

assisted by Bros . Capt . N . G . Philips P . G . D . as S . W ., Col . John Davis P . D . G . D . C . as J . W ., the Rev . J . Studholme Brownrigg P . G . C . as Chaplain , and Frank Richardson P . G . D . as D . C .

,. After the dedication ceremony , Bro . M . A . Mclnerny P . M . was ' installed as first Master of the Lodge , the Warrant of which was delivered into his care . The following Officers were invested : —Bros . A . McKenzie I . P . M ., E . G . Farley S . W . ' , J . M . Rogan J . W ., C . S . Burdon Treasurer , J .

Hazard Secretary , J . Duffy S . D ., W . E . Bailey J . D ., J . N . Durrant I . G ., S . Wright D . C , G . W . S . Bush and A . Truckle Stewards , and T . E . Weeks Tyler . A committee of members was appointed to frame the Bye-laws , and the

Founders and their friends afterwards celebrated the occasion by ' , an excellent dinner . ! . We hope on some future occasion to be able to attend a meeting of the Lodge , and report upon its working .

FREEMASONRY , which m these days seems to be irrepressible , says the " Daily Telegraph , "has invaded the Founding Hospital , where has just been consecrated by the Grand Secretary and several skilled Assistants the " Captain Corum" Lodge , No . 2737 . The Treasurer of the Hospital

Bro . Robert Grey P . P . Board of B . is the first Worshipful Master , Sir John Monckton and Sir Reginald Hanson , M . P ., the first Wardens , and Bro . P . de Lande Long the first Treasurer . It is expected and hoped that the charitable aims of the Hospital and its benevolent founder will be aided and fostered by the new Lodge , adds our contemporary .

Referring to this consecration the "Yorkshire Post" says : probable no Lodge ever started on its career with so astonishing an array of Grand Officers among its founders and its first Officers . It is like a regiment of generals , or a ship manned by admirals .

We particularly direct the attention of Brethren who may desire to record their vote for the election of a Grand Treasurer on Wednesday next , to the Agenda of Grand Lodge which we publish elsewhere , and from which it

will be seen that the ballot will be open at 2 o ' clock . The balloting boxes will be closed at a quarter past seven , when no more voting cards can be taken , and the ordinary business of Grand Lodge will be proceeded with .

The annual dinner of the Wanderers Lodge of Instruction was held at Bro . Fumagalli ' s Restaurant , Wilton Road , S . W ., on Wednesday , 15 th inst . An excellent menu was admirably served , and amplejustice done thereto byalarge assemblage of Brethren , with Bro . G . Holland Preceptor

in the chair . During an interval , Bro . Boulton , on behalf of the Lodge of Instruction , presented to Bro . Holland a magnificent portrait of himself , taken and framed for the occasion by Bro . Bailey , of Hindon Street . The Preceptor , in response , exhorted the Brethren to attend regularly at some

Lodge of Instruction , and thus gain a more intimate knowledge of the beautiful symbolical teachings of the Masonic Art than they could otherwise obtain . A most enjoyable evening was spent , and , amongst other ' events , Bro . Fumagalli was congratulated and thanked for the admirable manner in which he had provided the dinner on the occasion .

When the Bill for giving a State funeral to M . Faure was presented to the deputies , M . Dejeante , a socialist , took the opportunity to move that the ceremony should be civil and not religious . The excuse he gave for his

intervention was that the late President was no churchgoer and was a Freemason—in which character he was excommunicate . Of course , M . Dejeante ' s motion was simply a manoeuvre in the endless clerical v . anti-clerical battle , says the " St . James ' s Gazette . "

The Inns of Court Hotel , Lincoln's Inn Fields , continues its career of steady progress and prosperity . The new smoking room , or as we might term it " Hall , " just opened , does not replace the splendid Grand Central Hall , but is an addition , to meet the demands of those desiring a " warmer " room . Tho pretty self-contained suites are "finished , and the new banquet and Lodge rooms are in hand , as well as a large ladies' drawing room , with

retiring rooms attached . The manager remarks with some satisfaction that while the comfort of visitors is being well looked after , attention is given to the well-being of the staff , as when the present alterations are completed they will have the best staff quarters , with excellent conveniences . The Directors have also decided to split the £ 20 shares into four of £ 5 each , which has met with great approval , and increased the popularity of the holding

Palace Theatre . —Mr . Morton is to be congratulated on his enterprise in having obtained a production in biograph form of the highly interesting scene at Versailles , last Saturday , when M . Loubet , having been elected President of the Republic , was driven in state to the station , en route for Paris . This realistic picture was shown at the Folies Bergere ? on Sunday , and proved so successful that Mr . Morton arranged for its production at the Palace .
