proud to have been accepted as a member in tbe Westbourne Lo-lge . In due time he hoped to prove himself worthy of the confidence of the members . The W . M . in a short , but eloquent speech , gave the toast of the Yisitors , and tendered them a most hearty welcome . The Brethren of the Westbourne Lodge were always pleased to see guests , and he personally hoped to welcome them on a future occasion .
Bro . Middleweek P . P . A . D . C . thanked the W . M . for his very kind reception , and said how pleased ho was to see some of his oldest and dearest friends present . The working of Bro . Brown as Installing Master had proved a Masonic treat , while the able manner in which the Worshipful Master had invested his Officers had been a great credit to himself and to the Lodge . Bro . Crampton said he appreciated the way in which he had been received by the members of the Lodge , and thanked Bro . Welford , the Treasurer , for his invitation .
Bro . George Mogford P . M . thanked the W . M . for having coupled his name with the Visitors' toast , and also complimented Bro . Brown on the perfect manner in which he had installed the present ruler Bro . Weaver , who in turn had invasted his Officers without the slightest mistake . The perfect working of the W . M . was well-known to him , for as Secretary of the
Westbourne Lodgo of Instruction he had frequent opportunities of listening to Bro . Weaver . Ho strongly urged on the younger Brethren the importance of attending Lodges of Instruction , so as to be able to fill any position they might bo called upon to discharge . In conclusion he wished the W . M . a prosperous year of office .
Bro . W . W . Lee in a few but appreciative words also returned thanks , as did several others among the Visitors . The W . M . in very complimentary terms proposed the toast of the Past Masters of tbe Lodge , coupling with it the health of the Treasurer and Secretary . This toast was worthily presented and received , and ably responded to by Bros . A . Arrowsmith , W . . Roberts , G . T . Brown , and K . 3 . Bogers .
Bro . 3 . Welford P . M . Treasurer also thanked the W . M ., and pledged himself that so long as the Brethren of the Westbourne Lodge reposed trust in him he would do his duty to the utmost of his ability . Bro . Walker P . M . Secretary likewise responded , in an eloquent and humorous speech .
The toast of the Officers received at the hands of the W . M . and Brethren its just meed of praise , and was most ably responded to by the different Brethren in rotation , each pledging himself to do his utmost for the Lodge , and promising their assistance to the W . M ., for whom they hoped a most successful year was in store . The Tyler ' s toast brought a most pleasant and happy meeting to a close .
An excellent programme of music and songs was provided , amongst the artistes being Miss Annie Weaver , daughter of the W . M ., who sang tbe 'fMerchanfc of G'heapside , " and other songs , for which she wag deservedly several times encored ; the Misses A . and C . Cole , who are promising pupils of the former artiste , and gave an excellent selection on the mandoline ( a duet
waltz ) , specially composed by Miss Weaver , for the installation of Bro . George Weaver her father . The Misses Cole are highly accomplished artistes , and a great credit to their tutor . Mr . Avon Hastings and Mr . Harry Hudson also deserve great praise for the talent they displayed on the occasion . Bros . A . C . Hawkins and B . B . Hopkins Organist of the Lodge officiated at the piano .
DORIC LODGE , No . 933 . THB installation meeting was held at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street on Tuesday , Ufch inst ., Bro . E . Sherry W . M . The W . M . initiated Mr . Fryer , and afterwards passed Bro . Adams to the position of Fellow Craft . He next proceeded to instal as the new Master Rrn . Tlnhnrt . Avtnn inn
Before the Lodge was finally closed Bro . B . Ayton P . M . said he had a most pleasing office to fulfil , and tbat was to present , on behalf of the W . M ., P . Ms ., and members of the Lidge , thoir worthy Secretary , Bro . Calver , with a silver tea service as an acknowledgment of the valuable assistance which the Lodge had received from him during the past nine years . After other congratulatory remarks , Bro . Ayton read tho inscription on the tray , and the tea service was placed on the Secretary ' s table .
Bro . Calver , amid applause , expressed his gratification at the handsome present , which he was sure his wife would appreciate as much as himself . Of course the matter had not been quite a secret , and when he waa asked what form the present should take he made a selection which would be for his
homo and his wife , and of such a character as could be passed to his children and their children . After alluding to the fact that bis Masonic and other public engagements took much time which otherwise would be devoted to his wife and his home , Bro . Calver closed his remarks by again thanking the Brethren for their valuable present .
An adjournment was then made to the Pillar Hall , where an excellent dinner was provided , and , after grace , the W . M . gave the Loyal toasts , to which Bro . Chatterton gave tho customary vocal accompaniment . In the course of the evening the W . M . congratulated the Lodge at having such a distinguished number of visitors , and especially referred to the
attendance of Bro . 0 . Ernest Gray , the Member for Bast Ham , who would have remained with them but that at ten o'clock he was engaged to receive a deputation at the House oi Commons . The Lodgo was opened and the minutes ol the previous meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . Victor Mercer Cooper and Arthur Wm . Whyte proved their proficiency as Craftsmen , wore subsequently raised to the sublime degree , were invested as Master Masons , and took their seats in the Lodge . The ceremony was effectively carried out by Bro . Alfred Cooper , and evidently made an impression upon the candidates .
This being election night according to the Bye-laws , tho Brethren then proceeded to elect their Master , Treasurer and Tyler for the ensuing year , with the result that the choice of tha Lodgo fell upon Bro . Elliott P . M . Junior Warden as Master , Bro . W . Mason Stilas P . G . T . as Treasurer , and Bro . T . C . Edmonds P . M . as Tyler . Bro . Badtnan , in an impassioned speech , proposed tl \ a , t the sum of two
guineas should be voted to the National Lifeboat Institution , but although the sympathy of the Brethren was in favour o £ the proposition , it was pointed out that through various circumstances the Lodge was still in debt to a considerable extent , and that it was necessary to be just before being generous . The vote was therefore reluctantly withdrawn although we venture to think the discussion on the occasion may lead to ultimate advantage for the Fund .
The W . M . announced that the Masonic Service held under the Banner of the Clissold Lodge , at the Kingsland Congregational Church , on the 29 th , was very successful , and the funds of the -Church had been benefited to the extent of £ 25 . It was agreed that a Past Master ' s jewel shonld be presented to Bro . Alfred H . Cooper at the expiration of his year of office , for which Bro . Cooper suitably returned thanks .
The death of two members of the Lodge was announced , and the Secretary was ordered to send letters of sympathy to their bereaved families . Nothing further offering for the good of Freemasonry in general , or for the Clissold Lodge in particular , the Lodge was closed in perfect harmony , and the Brethren adjourned to dinner .
