There is every promise of the Masonic Hall for Aldershot proving a most successful undertaking . At the meeting at which it was decided to form a Masonic Hall Company , with a capital of £ 4 , , in £ x shares , more than a thousand ; , shares were subscribed in the room ' . The Hall , which is" to '
be built near the site for the new post office , opposite the town Institute , will provide accommodation for the meetings of Masonic Lodges , and premises for a Masonic Club . It is interesting also to note that the Hall will be available for public gatherings , entertainments and meetings .

WITH regret we have to record the recent death of Brother John Clayton P . M . 8 9 321 P . P . S . G . W ., which occurred " at * his residence , Northumberland Place , Richmond Street , Ashton-under-Lyne ., Our lately deceased Brother , who was a well-known Solicitor , had occupied the position of Overseer for the poor of Ashton , and in the jubilee
year 1887 was successful in obtaining Municipal honours ,- ¦ which he held at the time of his death . Bro . Clayton was . advanced to the Mark degree in the Skelmersdale Lodge , No . 1 . 41 , in due course becoming W . M . and Prov . G . Reg . of East Lancashire , and in 18 94 he was appointed Prov . S . G . Warden : * * •¦
of Cheshire . He was exalted to the degree of Royal Arch Mason in the ' Royal Cheshire ^ Chapter , No . 8 9 , and ultimately became First Principal . He was honoured by the Grand . Superintendent of Cheshire with the office * of-Prov . G . J . Pie was one of the founders of the Richard Newhouse Chapter ,
No . 2433 , and was also an old Knight lemplar , holding Prov . Grand honours in that degree . He had identified himself closely with charitable institutions , and had attained the dignity , of Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the Cheshire Masonic- Charities , ' besides acting as Steward " on liiany
occasions . The interment took place in the cemetery , Dukinfield , and was very imposing , the floral tributes being numerous . Many private and public friends attended the funeral , the Ashton Town Council being represented by the
Mayor ( Bro . Walter Newton P . P . G . J . D . ) , and a number of : , Aldermen and Councillors .
