Roberts ) , and anyone who attends a Lodge " on behalf of the Freemason ' s Chronicle , " under any other condition , does so without our knowledge or sanction . We shall be obliged if Lodge Officials will act on this notice whenever it may be necessary . We cannot be answerable for Lodge visits made in our name , without our knowledge .

BOARD OF BENEVOLENCE .

rjpHE Board of Benevolence met on Wednesday evening , JL at Freemasons' Hall , London . Bro . J . H . Matthews President , occupied the chair , and Bros . D . D . Mercer Senior Vice-President and Henry Garrod Junior Vice-President

, were in their respective places . Bros . E . Letchworth Grand Secretary , W . Lake Assistant Grand Secretar }* , W . Dodd , and Henry Sadler Grand Tyler , represented Grand Secretary ' s office .

Recommendations to the Grand Master at the February meeting of grants of over £ 20 and under £ 50 to the amount of £ 2 , 2 , 0 were confirmed , and out of a new list of

forty-three cases , four were dismissed , and recommendations and grants to a total of £ 930 were made to the remainder , in two sums of £ 50 each , seven of £ 40 each , seven of . £ 30 each thirteen of £ 20 each , six of £ 10 each , and four of £ 5 each .

GRAND CHAPTER OF SCOTLAND .

THE Annual Convocation of this body was held in the Freemasons' Hall , Edinburgh , on the 20 th inst ., the Deputy First Grand Principal Comp . G . C . Nisbet , W . S ., in the chair . There was a large attendance , including General J . C . Smith Past Grand Master of Illinois , who was welcomed from the chair and made a brief speech in reply .

The Chairman declared all the offices vacant , and the meeting thereupon elected the Companions as nominated at last meeting , the Earl of Haddington being First Grand Principal , Lord Saltoun Past First Grand Principal , W . Ivison Macadam Depute First Grand Principal . William

Black Second Grand Principal , W . Munro Denholm Third Grand Principal , R . S . Brown Grand Scibe E ., Alexander Bruce Grand Scribe N ., P . L . Henderson Grand Treasurer . The retiring Depute First Grand Principal then installed those office-bearers who were in attendance .

The Companions thereafter adjourned to the Great Hall , where about eighty celebrated the Festival of the Vernal Equinox .

A meeting of the Committee working to secure the election of Bro . Harry Manfield as Grand Treasurer for 1 900 will be held on Wednesday next ., 29 th inst ., at Freemasons ' Tavern , Great Queen Street , London , at 6 p . m ., when it is hoped many additional names will be added to the already influential and numerous list of supporters .
