GLASGOW SAMARITAN HOSPITAL FOR WOMEN

THE foundation stone of the Glasgow Samaritan Hospital for Women was laid on Saturday with Masonic honours by Colonel the Eight Hon . Lord Blythswood Past Grand Master of Scotland . The Provincial Grand Lodge of Glasgow was opened m the Volunteer Drill Hal ] , and a procession having been formed , proceeded , headed by the band , to the new building .

Ex-Provost Ferguson , Vice-Chairman of tbe Hospital Directors , on behalf of the architect and contractors , presented

Glasgow Samaritan Hospital For Women.

Lord Blythswood with a trowel , and , in the name of the Directors , requested him to lay the stone with Masonic honours . The Eev . Dr . W . W . Tulloch Provincial Grand Chaplain advanced and offered prayer , and the Provincial Grand

Secretary and Treasurer placed the coins , & c , in the cavities of the stone , the band afterwards playing the " Old Hundredth . " With due * ceremonial the stone was lowered into its place , the various office-bearers performing the duties of their respective offices .

Brother Lord Blythswood proved the stone , and said " May the Almighty Architect of the Universe look down with benignity upon our present undertaking , and crown the edifice of which we have now laid the foundation wifch every success . " Lord Blythswood next delivered a brief address , iu the

course of which he thanked the Provincial Grand Master of Glasgow and the Provincial Grand Lodge for the honour they had conferred upon him in asking him to perform the ceremony of laying the memorial stone of the new hospital . He believed that the reason why he had been asked to officiate was the fact

that 10 years ago he had the honour with a few other gentlemen of opening the first Samaritan Hospital in Glasgow . It was a very small establishment ; but it had done its work admirably , and its success had resulted in the undertaking in connection with which they were now gathered together . The hospital

was greatly needed . It had accomplished a great amount of good , and he trusted that in the future it would be as successful as it had been in the past . Over 700 people had been treated

during last year , and although their ailments were often of the most dangerous character , the death-rate was less than 4 per cent . Of the rest of the patients some were entirely cured , while others were greatly benefited .

On the motion of Ex-Provost Ferguson , a vote of thanks was passed to Lord Blythswood , who , he remarked , was present in a double capacity , inasmuch as he was not only Past Grand Master , but also President of the hospital . The band having played " Eule Britannia , " the proceedings terminated . — " Glasgow Herald . "
