obligation of an Installed Master , reciting ifc himself without dictation . The Board that was formed was surely the largest that ever assisted on such an occasion at a private Lodge , seeing that every one present was either a Past or Acting Master of a Lodge .

The Warrant of the Lodge having . been entrusted to the keeping of the W . M ., Bro . Letchworth then delivered the addresses , which were rendered in a most perfect manner , and were highly appreciated by those present . Doubtless most of

them had given the lectures at some time , so they formed a highly critical gathering , but the applause that greeted Bro * . Letchworth as he resumed his seat sufficienty demonstrated their gratification at his performance .

Bro . J . R . Cleave proposed that a Committee should be appointed to frame the bye-laws of the Lodge . The Worshipful Master proposed that a hearty vote of thanks be conveyed to the Consecrating Officers for their services , and as a souvenir of the occasion he asked their acceptance each of a gold fountain pen . He also proposed they be elected as Honorary Members of the Lodge .

Bros . Letchworth and Fenn acknowledged the compliment . A good list of Brethren were proposed as joining membersamong whom was Bro . Bevan , a possible future nominee for the Grand Treasurership . Letters of regret on account of absence were read from several distinguished Brethren , and the Lodge was closed with harmony , until the third Friday in September next .

We must not forget the admirable musical arrangements , which tended so greatly to enhance the impressiveness of the ceremony , and which were under the direction of Bro . H . Schartau P . P . G . O . Mdx ., assisted by Bros . William Fell , Charles Ellison and John Josey . The beautiful programme of the proceedings was a fine specimen of the printer ' s art , and will be treasured as a pleasing memento of the occasion .

The installation banquet was appropriately held in the large Victoria Hall , which presented an imposing scene when all the guests were seated . A very choice menu was submitted for the delectation of the Brethren , and was amply enjoyed .

Alderman Vaughan Morgan was received with acclamation upon rising to propose the first toast . The day was the sixtyfirst anniversary of the accession of Her Most Gracious Majesty , who might also be deemed the Mother of the Lodge , seeing that

it was established to commemorate the historical event of her Diamond Jubilee , The Queen was the mother of some distinguished Freemasons , and showed her interest in the Craft by her patronage of the Masonic Institutions , The toast was drunk with enthusiasm , followed by the National Anthem .

In proposing the Grand Master Brother Morgan said that the Prince of Wales had done an immense amount of work during the twenty-four years he had held the office , and Freemasonry had flourished considerably under his rule . He well remembered the installation of H . R . H . at the Albert Hall , on 28 th April 1875 , and that impressive spectacle would never be effaced from his mind .

And no one present would ever forget the scene at the same place a few days back , when H . R . H . presided at the Boys School Centenary , and the marvellous sum of £ 134 , 000 was collected . Freemasonry was indebted to the Prince of Wales in many ways , and the Brethren repaid the debt with affectionate fidelity and loyalty .

The Very Rev . Dean Hole P . G . C responded in a Avifcty speech for the Grand Officers , and referred to the Masonic service to be held on Saturday ( to-day ) at Rochester Cathedral , in aid of the funds for re-building the tower , which he trusted would be always know as the Freemasons' Tower .

Brother Letchworth , having suitably acknowledged the toast of the Consecrating Officers , Brother Fenn gave the Worshipful Master , who he had known for many years as a Mason well skilled in the work , and of whom the Lodge ought to be proud .

Brother Morgan , in reply , expressed his hearty thanks to the Brethren for placing him in the honourable position of first Master of the Lodge . The members consisted of the cream of London Lodges , ancl they intended to reflect credit upon the Consecrating Officers and fche Craft in general .

Consecrations.

A photograph of the company was then taken by Messrs . Fradelle and Young , of 283 Regent Street , W . Bros . Hon . C E . Davies Grand Master of Tasmania , Kelso King Past Grand Deacon of New South Wales , and Arthur Grey Grand Registrar of Punjab responded for the Visitors , and conveyed the good wishes of their respective Districts for the success of the new Lodge .

The Worshipful Master , in proposing the Officers , said he had a very promising set of men , though up to fche present the Stewards had done the principal work . They were , however , mostly indebted to Brother J . D . Langton , their highly esteemed Secretary , who had been at their beck and call for many weeks past , and had rendered yeoman service , very possibly to the

detriment and disarrangement of his domestic duties . So the Committee proposed to make a peace-offering to Mrs . Langton , in the shape of a magnificent diamond ring , while at fche same time to mark their appreciation of his services they asked his personal acceptance of a silver vase , which he now handed to him .

Brother Langton said he could hardly find words to express his thanks for the unexpected presents , bufc if he had assisted in some degree to the success that had attended the floating of the Lodge he had done so with pleasure , and would always endeavour to promote its prosperity .

The evening ' s musical programme was arranged by Bros . H . T . Brickwell and Imre Kiralfy , and included , besides those previously mentioned , Madame Bobi , a charming and expert player on the xylophone and violin ; songs by Bros . Leo Stormont , and Wilford Howard , and a humorous recitation by Brother Ben Nathan .

It was with a certain amount of regret on the part of the Brethren that the Tyler made his appearance , at a late hour , to terminate a highly successful and enjoyable evening .

ON Saturday afternoon , 14 th ult ., the Right Hon . Earl Egerton of Tatton Prov . Grand Master of Cheshire consecrated this new Lodge at Northenden . There was a large gathering , most of the Lodges of the Province being represented , while the assembly included a large number of Provincial Officers ..

The Prov . Grand Master having taken the chair and appointed his Officers pro . tem ., the Lodge was opened in fche three degrees , aud after the hymn , " Hail , Eternal , " the Prov . G . M . expressed the pleasure it gave him to be present , and to be so well supported on the occasion . He trusted fche Lodge they were about to constitute and consecrate would be a distinct honour and service to the district of Northenden .

Bro . Small Director of Ceremonies , having detailed fche application for and the issue of the Charter for the constitution of the Lodge , the members of it were arranged in order , and Bro . The Officers having been approved in due form Bro . Atkinson gave an eloquent Oration on the merits of Freemasonry , after which a select choir sang the anthem •* ' Behold how good and joyful a thing . " Wifch faces burned eastwards the invocation was given by the Consecrating Officer , ancl the acting Chaplain

read the orthodox scripture . The Consecrating Officer and Wardens then followed the usual course & f procedure , and corn , wine , oil , and salt ; were scattered , with musical selections and scriptural readings interspersed . The Provincial Grand Master then dedicated and constituted the Lodge , the choir sang the anthem " I have surely built Thee a House , " the acting Chaplain

pronounced the patriarchal benediction , and the ceremony , which throughouD was of sublime and solemn imposure , was concluded . The Lodge was subsequently resumed in the second degree , and Bro . T . W . Markland was installed first W . M ., Bro . F . Broadsmith Prov . S . G . W . and Bro . Armstrong Prov . J . G . W . being the Installing Officers . The subordinate Officers were appointed and invested .

A graceful compliment was paid to Earl Egerton , the Prov . G . M ., who was unanimously elected an hon . member of the Lodge , a compliment his lordship fittingly acknowledged .
