PORTSMOUTH LODGE , No . 487 .

ON Thursday evening , the 10 th inst ., a meeting of the above Lodge was held at the Masonic Hall , Highbury-street , Portsmouth , when Bro . Snell was installed into the chair as W . M . for the ensuing year . The ceremony was performed in a very ablo and impressive manner by Bro . Antill , tho outgoing Worshipfnl Master , who w & a accorded a hearty vote of thanks and presented with a

handsome jewel , subscribed for by the brethren of the Lodge , in appreciation of the manner in whioh he had carried out his duties during the year . ON Thursday , the 10 th instant , the annual installation ceremony took place at the Masonio Buildings , Lord Street , Southport , a large number of Companions being present . Comp . the Rev . C . Hesketh Knowlys , M . A ., was installed in the First Principal's chair by E . Companion Goodacre P . G . S . E . and P . G . Standard Bearer England . The newly-installed Principal then appointed the

A pleasant feature of tho ceremony was the presentation by tho W . M . of a button-hole bouquet ; to each of his Olliuors after the investment . The Lodge voted ten guineas to that excellent Charity the Royal Masonio Benevolent Institntion for Aged Freemasons . The brethren then adjourned to tho Station Hotel to dinner , wheu about 30 sat down to an excellent repast provided by Mrs . Witten . A pleasant evening was spent .

M . 180 ) the Director of Ceremonies , in a well-ohoson speech , made the presentation , and referred to the many excellent qualities of Dr . Green , who he said was highly esteemed and universally respected , not only by the' brethren of the Lodge , but also by thq residents ( rich and poor ) of the neighbourhood in whioh he resided .

He had endeared himself to the members of the Lodge by bis courtesy and genial good feeling , and they had much pleasure in asking his acceptance of the salad bowl . It was then handed to Dr . Green , whose rising to respond was the sigunl for an outburst of cheering he is not likely to forget . He thanked the brethren for their kind and unexpected gift which , he observed , would be cherished

and " handed down to posterity . It was evident to those present that he spoke with great emotion , feeling deeply the high esteem with which he is regarded by the members . It may here be mentioned that the South Norwood Lodge have this year celebrated their 25 th anniversary . Bro . C . Tarry served the banquet , in hia usual well * known style .

A very gratifying feature in the proceedings was the presentation of a handsome P . M . ' s jewel , subscribed I ' or by the brethren of the Lodge , to Bro . F . Baker , in recognition

uf tho valuable services rendered by him to tb « Lodge as Treasurer during the past eleven year-i . The brethren afterwards sat down to a magnificent banqnet , provided by Miss Jones , the manageress of

the hotel , on whom it reflected the highest credit . The vocalists of th » evening were Bro . Harper Kearton and Bro . Frederick Bevan , whose splendid singing did much to make this one of tbe most successful gatherings ever held by this Lodge .

SIR WATKIN LODGE , No . 1477 . rpHE monthly meeting was held at the Masonio Hall , Mold , on JL Monday the 7 th inst ., the W . M ., Bro . W . P . Jones presiding . Letters were read acknowledging tho vote of condolence passed by the Lodge on tbe death of H . R . H . the Duke of Clarence and Avondale , from Her Majesty ' s Secretary of State , Mr . Henry Matthews . and also from Lord Harlech P . G . M . North Wales , on the death ol ' Lady Harlech .

the hotel , on whom it reflected the highest credit . The vocalists of th » evening were Bro . Harper Kearton and Bro . Frederick Bevan , whose splendid singing did much to make this one of tbe most successful gatherings ever held by this Lodge .
