Bro . John Mitchell I . P . M . responded . The W . M . proposed the Visitors , many of whom were old friends , all of whom were welcome , and each highly esteemed among his Brethren and fellows .
Bro . Geo . Reed P . M . 13 was delighted to be present . All had been so well done that he was sure his Grace the Duke of Fife must be delighted to have his name associated with snch an exemplary Lodge . Aa the Duke himself was a capital fellow , and thorough Mason , so those who worked under his name were equally a credit and success .
Bro . Lucas was among friends he had known so long that he hardly felt like a Visitor , but he congratulated them on their good fellowship . Bro . Bond P . P . G . D . C . Kent wished them a most successful year , and hoped to see more of what the Master " could " do . Bro . S . Rashleigh P . M . 902 , as " the Father in Freemasonry " of the
W . M ., was mosfc pleased to see him in bis honourable position . He knew him as a man of business , as well aa a Mason , and equally respected him . BOROUGH LODGE , No . 2589 . THE last meeting before the summer vacation was held in the Napoleon Room of the Bridge House Hotel , on Wednesday , 16 th inst ., under the presidency of Bro . A . Atkin W . M . After formal business Bro . Gorey was passed , which ceremony was followed by the raising of Bros . Copeland and Innocent , the ceremony again being performed in an impressive manner by the W . M .
Before the Lodge adjourned , on the motion of Bro . Roots I . P . M ., seconded hy Bro . Bulpitt S . W ., it was resolved thafc fche next meeting ( in October ) should be a ladies' night . After the banquet the customary Loyal and Masonic toasts were given . On that of the W . M . being proposed , Bro . Roots , who gave it , took the
opportunity of assuring Bro . Atkin that the Lodge , having seen him reach the centre of the work of his year of office , congratulated itself on its choice . He was confident the Borough Lodge would be successfully and efficiently conducted till he vacated the chair . His knowledge of Masonry and excellence of working had satisfied all who had witnessed it .
The W . M ., in responding , appealed for { the most hearty support of the members when the ladies' night , in October , came round . For his own part , he undertook that the musical portion of the evening should be something with which everyone would be satisfied .

White were appointed to make the necessary arrangements .
A foreign distressed Brother being in attendance and proved worthy was relieved from the Charity box fund . The Secretary stated he was going to act as Steward for the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , and asked for individual subscriptions . After receiving a proposition for a joining member , there being ho further business , the Lodge was closed .

The Lodge was duly opened by Bro . Ayres , after which the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . The ballot was then taken for Messrs . Thomas Frederick Ashdown , Alfd . Woolings , and Percy William Wilson , which proved in their favour , and being in attendance they were admitted and regularly initiated into the mysteries and privileges of Freemasonry , by the W . M .
Bro . H . W . P . Hunt , a candidate to be passed to the second degree , answered the usual questions and was subsequently advanced as a Craftman . There were two candidates for the third degree , but owing to the nature of their avocations at sea , they wero unable to be present on this occasion . Both the ceremonies were admirably rendered by Bro . Ayres , and evidently made a great impression on the candidates .
The Bye-laws were read in open Lodge by the Secretary , one of which provides that at the meeting in March the Brethren shall proceed to elect a Master , Treasurer , and Tyler for the ensuing year . Tne choice of fche Lodge fell upon Bros . Joseph Weymouth , Charles Westwood , and George Martin to fill those respective offices , for which they returned thanks . Bros . Hunt , Ashdown , Woolings , and Wilson were appointed as Auditors of the Lodge .
Bro . Weymouth proposed " That a hearty vote of thanks , together with a Past Master ' s collar and jewel , be accorded to Bro . Ayres , for his able conduce in the chair during his year of oflice , and his general services to the Lodge . " This was seconded by Bro . Borradaile , and carried with acclamation . Bro . Ayres expressed his thanks to the Brethren for the compliment conferred .
The Brethren decided to support the application of the daughter of a deceased Past Master of the Lodge , who is a candidate for election to the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , all votes to be sent to the Charity Representative . There' being no other business , the Blaster received the good wishes of the Brethren , and the Lodge was closed in perfect harmony , after which the Brethren adjourned to supper , and a pleasant convivial evening was spent .
