SUMMER HOLIDAYS .

THE Great Western Railway Company announce an extended list of fast excursions to different parts of their system during the months of July , August , and September , tourists being offered considerable variety alike in regard to times of starting , length of trips , and difference of routes . One of the most attractive excursions of the day for those who enjoy a

few hours on the ocean , as well as a complete change , are the Saturday to Monday trips to Weymouth and the Channel Islands by trains leaving Paddington at 8-50 a . m . and 9-45 p . m . every Saturday , the tickets being available for return the following Monday , or for 8 , 10 , 15 or 17 days , at a return fare of 24 s 6 d .

In addition to this excursion there are many others to the different holiday resorts of the West of England , leaving Paddington on Fridays and Saturdays , with option of return at different intervals from three to seventeen days , while fortnightly trips are arranged to different parts of Ireland , leaving the London terminus of the Great Western Company on Thursday , 1 st July , or Friday , 2 nd , and fortnightly thereafter , according to the different locality intended to be patronised .

We may refer our readers to our advertisement columns for some further particulars , or they may obtain full details , with Tourist Guides , Lists of Lodgings , Pamphlets , & c , from the offices of the Company , at Paddington Station .

LUXURIES OF THE TABLE .

THE inconsistency of human nature is probably never better illustrated than when it comes to the ice pudding at a banquet . Ninety-nine out of every hundred Brethren who are asked for an opinion will tell you that it is about the worst thing to take , and yet one seldom comes across the hundredth diner who refuses it . We have been at the side of Brethren who have declined one dish because it was too rich , another because it might not

agree with them , and yet another because it would cause indigestion ; but a portion of ice pudding—the essence of all that is dangerous if we are to believe even a part of what is said in regard to it—is hardly ever passed by , and as evil effects seldom , if ever , occur afterwards , there is unmistakable evidence that one need not study all the directions tendered as to what is good and what is injurious to the digestive organs .

A far stronger argument against ice pudding—or indeed ices of any description—is the difficulty of preparation , the necessary apparatus being seldom met with in the ordinary household ; but this difficulty has been surmounted by the introduction of Roberts's Patent " Imperial " Ice Cream Freezer , which at the small cost of five shillings will enable anyone to make ices in a few minutes . This was practically demonstrated by H . R . H . the Duchess of Albany , who opened and displayed considerable interest in the

recent bazaar at St . Martin's Town Hall , in aid of the funds of the National Refuges for Homeless and Destitute Children and the Training Ships Arethusa and Chichester . One of the interesting sights of the afternoon was to see Her Royal Highness making ices at the refreshment stall . Half a dozen of the Imperial Freezers were on the counter , and in three minutes the Duchess made three quarts of ice cream . The first of the creams made by the Duchess ' s royal hands were sold for a sovereign apiece , while half a guinea was easily obtainable later on . The Proprietors ( Messrs . E . Roberts and Sons , Limited , 264-270 Camberwell Road , S . E . ) also supply packets of " Imperial " Ice Cream , at 3 d

each , in different flavours , and as we have on more than one occasion put their apparatus to a practical and most successful test we can with confidence recommend ifc to those who appreciate this luxury of summer weather .

The well known Hotel at Ealing—the Feathers—so long patronised by members and friends of the West Middlesex Lodge , has recently changed hands , its present proprietor being Bro . Frederick Heathcote , of the Bagshawe Lodge , No . 1457 , who is

well known among members of the Graft , and can be vouched for as an obliging and courteous host . He is assisted at Ealing by his wife and daughter , and will , we hope , secure a continuance of the Masonic patronage accorded to his establishment , which is situate next to the Eailway Station .
