BOARD OF BENEVOLENCE .
THE Board of Benevolence held its August meeting on Wednesday evening , at Freemasons' Hall , after the General Committee of Grand Lodge had held its Quarterly-Assembly . At the latter , over which Bro . J . H . Matthews presided ,
the agenda for Grand Lodge of the 6 th prox . was read to the Brethren , and the meeting of the Committee being then concluded the Board of Benevolence confirmed grants to the amount of £ 400 which had been referred at the July meeting for the Grand Master ' s approval .
Out of fourteen cases on the new list one petition was deferred , but the remaining thirteen petitioners were voted a total of £ 395 . This sum was made up of a recommendation that Grand Lodge should approve a grant of -Tioo to one
petitioner , and £ 50 to another . The sum of £ 40 in one case and sums of £ 30 in each of four others were referred to the Grand Master for approval ; and three grants of £ 20 each , two of £ 10 each , and one gift of £ 5 closed the consideration of the remaining cases on the list .

A MEETING of this Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons is summoned -to be held in the Freemasons' Hall , Manchester , on Tuesday , 19 th September next , for the installation of the Right Hon . the Earl of Lathom as Provincial Grand Master , in succession to his father the late Earl of Lathom ; and for the transaction of the annual business of the Province .
A Provincial Outing.
A PROVINCIAL OUTING .
A HIGHLY successful gathering was on Saturday , 5 th inst ., organised by the Provincial Grand Lodge of Inverness-shire in the shape of a summer outing for the Craft in the Province . The Brethren assembled at Kincraig station , where conveyances were ready to drive them to Glenfeshie . Arriving in Glenfeshie , the Brethren proceeded
to what is known as the picture hut—so called as it shelters the remains of a realistic fresco of deer by Sir Edwin Landseer . The fresco was originally executed by Sir Edwin on the plaster of the old hut used as a dining room in the little colony where once the Duchess of Bedford held sway .
The huts were unfortunately destroyed by fire in the sixties , and the fresco exposed to the weather . A pretty memorial "hut" or , it might almost be said "hall , " was erected to preserve the picture , and this was the Lodge room for the occasion . The ordinary routine business being ended ,
luncheon was served in the picture hut , and the Provincial Grand Master Brother Macpherson- Grant took occasion to refer to the uniqueness of the function , and expressed the hope that the reunion might prove of benefit to the Province , and that other Provincial Grand Lodges might be able to
congratulate themselves on similar successful gatherings in other places . Luncheon over , the Brethren went their several " gaits , " and at 4 o ' clock left the glen for Invershie House . Here Mrs . Macpherson-Grant was awaiting them with tea , and with the assistance of Mrs . Fergusson-Buchanan , of
Auchentorlie , ministered to the wants of the assemblage . To judge by the remarks of those present , this was not the worst part of the trip , and many a hope was expressed , as the Brethren separated , that this was only the precursor of along series of similar enjoyable outings in the future .
Under the title " Fifty-five years a Mason " the " Jewish World" gives an interesting sketch , illustrated with a photograph , of the Masonic career of Bro . Alexander Levy , who was initiated in the Lodge of Joppa , No . 188 , about
18 44 , and has been associated with the Tranquillity Lodge , No . 185 , for upwards of fifty years . We join in the wish expressed by the writer in our contemporary that Bro . Levy may long be spared to be among us .
Specially acknowledging the present made by the Brethren of the Province of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to his wife , Bro . Goble D . P . G . M . said that during
the time he was Provincial Grand Secretary he received a large amount of help from her , and she had never said one word to hinder him in his Masonic work .
The Liverpool Masonic C 3 'ding Club keeps up its reputation for novelty and variety of programme , says the "Cyclist , " and a fixture entirely out of the common , to wit ,
an open air concert , has been arranged for to-day ( Saturday ) . The concert will be held at Hooton , a pleasantly-situated village in West Cheshire . Personally we can but again express surprise that we have so few Masonic Cycling Clubs .
We regret to hear that the mother of Bro . Arthur Williams P . M . Preceptor 834 , 2012 , & c . is seriously ill , and feel sure the many friends of our esteemed Brother will join us in wishing her a speedy recovery , and good health for many years to come .
Sir Joseph Dimsdale Past Grand Treasurer of England is mentioned as the probable candidate for South-East Essex if Major Rasch accepts the candidature of Mid-Essex .
