THE regnlar meeting of this highly successful Lodge waa held at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street , on Saturday , the 19 th inst ., under the presidency of its popular W . M ., Bro . Buxton , assisted by Bros . Hobbs S . W ., Manley acting J . W ., Ferguson Treasurer , Saunders acting S . D ., Chapelle acting J . D ., Banks I . G ., Smith Steward , Price P . M ., and about 30 brethren . Visitors—Bros . Andrews 177 , Hopkins 1381 , and Steinberg , King Salomon ' s Lodge , Canada . The

Lodge was opened , and the minutes read and confirmed . A ballot was taken for Bro . Hawkins 311 , as a joining member , whioh was unanimous in his favonr . Bro . Fenn was raised to the degree of M . M ., and Bros . Stevens , Ede , and Robinson were passed to the degree of F . C The W . M . having received the " Hearty good wishes " of the visitors , Bro . Price P . M . rose and said , tbat one of the most

pleasing dntiea that could be discharged by any man , had , by permission of the W . M ., fallen to bis lot that evening , and he assured the biethren he felt it a great pleasure to be the means through them to do hononr to so worthy a brother as Bro . Beer , and to convey to him their congratulations on the interesting event he was about to celebrate . For , as thoy knew , Bro . Beer was about to resign his title of a batchelor by taking to himself a wife

" One of those dear creatures without whose - Sweet presence life wonld be a blank . " Bro . Beer being one of the first initiates of the Viator Lodge , and the first of ita members to enter the bonds of matrimony , some of the brethren considered it a fitting opportunity to express to him their regard by asking hia acceptance of a small token as a memento of the

event he had jnst mentioned , and whioh he was sure wonld be received with the same kindly spirit it was offered . He felt sure that Bro . Beer would always cherish a warm affection for the Lodge in whioh he received his Masonio birth . He also hoped that the time wonld soon arrive when they might see him elected to the dignified position of W . M . When that time came he could assure the

brethren , from what he knew of Bro . Beer , he would discharge the duties of that exalted position to their satisfaction , and with muoh credit to himself . Bro . Beer , on behalf of the membera of the Viator Lodge , I have mnch pleasure in asking yonr acceptance of the present , which I am anre yon will highly prize , not for ita intrinsic

value , bat as a token of the goodwill , and as a souvenir of tbe most important event of yonr life . With it yon will also please accept the hearty good wishes of the brethren that yourself and your bride elect may live for many , very many , years to enjoy health , happiness , and prosperity , and that in your future the words of Tom Moore may be thoroughly exemplified by yonr passing throngh life

" With eyes never changing , And hearts never cold , Love on till all time , And love on till you are old . " Bro . Beer thanked the brethren in a few well ohosen words , expressing the great honour and pleasure he felt in receiving so valuable

a present , especially as it showed so kind a feeling towards him by the brethren ; he thanked them for the good wishes as to his future life , and sincerely hoped that they would be fully realised . The present consisted of a silver ink-stand , a facsimile of one presented to H . M . Stanley , the African explorer , on a similar occasion , and bore the following inscription : " Presented by the members

of the Viator Lodgo , No . 2308 , to Brother Robert Beer on the occasion of his marriage , 1891 . " Letters of apology for their non-al tendance were read from Bros . Stephens J . W ., Higgs S . D ., and Kay J . D . All Masonic business being ended , the Lodge was closed . At the banquet , held in the Pillar Room , Bro . Clemow served a most rdchtrchi repast . The toast of the Queen and the Craft and the

M . W . G . M . H . R . H . the Prince of Wales were given by the Worshipful Master . Bro . Ferguson P . M . proposed the health of the Pro Grand Master , and the rest of the Grand Officers Present and Past . The health of the Worshipful Master was proposed by Bro . Smith Immediate Past Master in a very happy manner . He complimented him on the excellent way he had performed his duty , and felt sure

under his able management tbe Lodge would continue to prosper . Bro . Buxton W . M . in reply , assured the brethren tbat all that laid in his power he would do to keep the Lodge np to its present high standard . In responding to the toast of the visitors , Bro . Andrews , 177 , tendered his warmest thanks to the W . M ., and brethren fox their kind and hospitable acception , and trusted it wbould not be

their last visit to the Viator Lodge . Bro . Steinberg also tendered his thanks , and gave a few facts from Canadian Lodges , and hoped to meet the brethren of the Viator Lodge in that country . Bro . Price P . M . responded to the health of the Past Masters , that of the Treasurer and Secretary being responded to by Bro . Fergnson P . M . and Bro . Morris , and that of the Officers of the Lodge by Brothers Hobba S . W . and Manley .

the ceremony of passing will be tbe main features of the evening ' s business . We particularly direct the attention of our readers to the hoar at which the brethren of this Lodge of Instruction assemble , 5 * 30 will suit many of those who desire to reach home early .

The Langton Lodge of Instruction will resume work on Thursday , the 8 th October , at 5 * 30 p . m ., at the " White Hart" Tavern , Abchurch Lane , E . C . Tho election of the permanent Officers for the coming year and the rehearsal of

THEOSOPHY AND FREEMASONRY .

To the Editor of the Daily Chronicle . SIR , —Seeing that your readers must include some thousands of Freemasons , there is one phase of Theosophy whioh I have been daily expecting to see noted in your columns—viz ., its undoubted identity with the highest teachings of Freemasonry . Personally I may state that the literature of the Craft , led me to an investigation of the

problems treat d by Theosophy , whioh will always be found to possess surpassing interest for thinking men of every generation . The result of my atndies so far has been to show me an extraordinary affinity between Theosophy and Masonry in their history , traditions , aymbology , mythology , degrees , and general principles . The " master key to all the creeds" and a knowledge of the "hidden

secrets of natnra and science" are alike the reward of the Theosophist and Mason who , after following the exoterio instruct ion which is open to all , receives the deeper exoterio teaching whioh both in the Craft aud the T . S . mast always be the heritage of the few . I would like to caution my Masonio brethren against a repudiation of Theosophy before grasping what its teaching and

organisation really amount to , as the day cannot be far distant when it will be generally known as the twin sister of Freemasonry . The publio can judge of the truth of this statement by comparing the published ( exoterio ) works of both societies . One other feature of thia discussion I should also like to notice il the singular absence of letters from those who are usually regarded

as guides and teachers on all subjects of man's destiny—I mean , of course , those leaders of religious thought who might reasonably be expected to have a great deal to say npon the problems at issue . Mr . Hugh Price Hughes appears to have broken the clerical silence
