Provincial Grand Lodge Of Shropshire.

PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF SHROPSHIRE .

ON Thursday , the 17 th inat ., a meeting of this Provincial Grand Lodge was held in the Town Hall , convened by the Right Worshipfnl Bro . Sir Offley Wakeman , Bart ., Provincial Grand Master , and the Worshipful Brother Rowland Geo . Venables Past Assistant Grand

Director of Ceremonies , Depnty Provincial Grand Master . A Committeo of the Charity Association was held at twelve o'clock . The members of the Grand Lodge met at 2 * 30 p . m . for the following business : — -Opening cere-,

monies ; to read and confirm the minutes of the Provincial Grand Lodge held at Shrewsbury ; to read letters of apology for absence ; to call over names of Officers , and noto those present ; to read roll call of Lodges , and note

those who are represented ; to appoint and invest the Officers for the ensuing year ; to read reports of . children ! in the Royal Masonio Institutions , & o . All Present . and Past Officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge , together with

the Worshipfnl Masters , Past Masters , and acting Wardens of the several Lodges in the Province were summoned to appear in fall Masonic clothing and wearing the insignia of their present and past office and rank in the Order .

The following Lodges were represented , viz .: —Salopian ,

Salopian Charity , St . John , The Marches , St . Milbnrga , St . Oswald , Pitralan , Olive , Castle , Audley , Brownlow , and St . Alkmnnd . The stage and windows were adorned with cypress , fuchsia , cyclamens , crotons , geraniums , maidenhair ferns , and fancy grasses in pots , the whole

being tastefully arranged by Mr . F . Calver , florist , Ball Ring . The council chamber was arranged as a robing room for the Worshipful Provincial Grand Master and the Provincial Grand Officers , and the ante-room being the Provincial Grand Tyler ' s room . The large room was

arranged for the holding of the varioas meetings in connection with the Provincial Grand Lodge , the chair and pedestal of the Worshipful Master being at the west end of the room ; the "Worshipful Deputy Master at east end of

the room , and the Worshipfnl Chaplain on the north side . The room On the east end of tbe building was utilised as a robing room for Master Masons , and the ladies cloak room was reserved for the use of visiting members of the Craft .

After the conclusion of the ceremonial work of the Lodge , the brethren adjourned to tho basement of tho building , where a banquet'of the most recherche description took place , the catering of Mr . Henry Carter ( Castle Hotel ) giving the greatest satisfaction . The usual toasts were proposed and dnly honoured .

THE LORD MAYOR AT KENDAL .

THE Lord Mayor was tbe guest of the Kendal Masons on Monday , the 14 th instant . In the afternoon hia Lordship was received by the Brethren of the Union Lodge , No . 129 , and made an honorary member . In the evening he was entertained ab a banquet , presided over by the W . M . ot the Lodge . Replying , in tbe course of the proceedings , to the toast of bis health , proposed infelicitous teem by the W . M ., his Lordship , who was accorded a gratifying reception

¦ aid that he had been the recipient of many kind deeds , and many kind words had been addressed to him since he took office , but he conld truly say that nothing , had more touched him than the hearty and enthusiastic welcome he had been given by that Lodge ., The duties of the Lord Mayor were very onerous and ' responsible , and he needed all the support he could receive from hia fellow-citizens , and

those with whom he was associated in the various bodies to whioh he belonged . He conld assure them that the support he had received from Masons , not only in London , bnt throughout the kingdom , and especially from the Lodge whose guest he 'then was , was deeply appreciated by him . If the dnties of a Lord Mayor wera onerous and responsible tbey afforded him opportunities for support

ing the Masonie Charities , and of observing those Masonio virtues whioh were so often inculcated in Lodges . He thonght if a man occupying the position he had the honour to fill paid due attention to those maxims And benevolent objects , he wonld . not go far . astray . It was a source of pride to him to know that his mother was ^ born , cradled , and educated in tbe town of Kendal . No words could

express what that mother was to him , and it was not until he . 'lost her , a few years ago , that he felt himself able to find a partner for his life . He thanked the Worshipful Master most warmly for the cordial mention he had made of the Lady Mayoress . The year of his Mayoralty had been an eventful , important , and memorable one , and it would , he believed , be remembered by the

people of this empire as a year fraught with most beneficent . issues for the empire at large . Bat for himself nothing would ever efface the kindness he had received from the people of Kendal . The year of hia office was now quickly passing by . He could assure them . he deeply appreciated the high compliment paid him by their making him an honorary member of thoir Lodge . He trusted they would

believe that the union they had made tbat day be would endeavour ou his part most faithfully to keep . He trusted that they would never have cause to regret that they had made the Lord Mayor of London of 1891 an honorary member . Subsequently , His Lordship proposed the health of the Worshipful Master of the Lodge . In doing so , he said a great honour

and pleasure had been conferred on him in entrusting that toast to him . In his Masonio experience he had found there were Masons and Masons , and Masters and Masters , and be conld most heartily congratulate that Lodge on having a Master to whom the duties of office could well be entrusted . The dignity , amiability , and courtesy with which he bad discharged the duties of that day would be testified to by all who had had the privilege of listening

to him . The Master ( Mr . Cozens Hardy ) responded in happy terms ; and other toasts then followed , the company not separating until a somewhat late hour . On Sunday the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress' attended the Parish Chnroh of Kendal , in State . The Lord Mayor and Corporation af Kendal were present . On their journey to and from the chnroh the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress met with a most enthusiastic reception . —Gity Press .

Freemasonry , under the fostering care of our old friend [ Major-General Sir Charles Warren , K . C . B ., seems to be flourishing iu the sunny latitude of Singapore . There has just beon formed there a Lodge of Mark Master Masons , a kind of upper hierarchy of the Order . The lodge waa consecrated by Sir Charles , and the first master was installed by him with all tbe solemnity usual on such occasion . —Bristol Evening News
