********** James Terry Chapter , No . 237 2 . INSTALLATION OF COMPANION ROACH . THE Installation meeting of this Chapter took place at the Falcon Hotel , Waltham Cross , on Thursday , 10 th inst ., when a good muster of the Companions , and several distinguished visitors

we ' re present . Comp . Roach H . was installed into the chair of Z ., after which Bro . Mason , of Waltham Abbey Lodge , No . 2750 , was exalted . The outgoing M . E . Z . Companion Graham was presented by the Chapter with a Royal Arch P . Z . Jewel , for valuable services rendered during his year of Office .

A sumptuous banquet was provided in a most excellent manner by the host Bro . Hinds . The regulation toasts were duly honoured , and a most enjoyable evening spent in a very appropriate and happy manner .

British officers who have returned to this country bear testimony to the fact that without exception , so- far as they are aware , the Boers have been faithful to the precepts of Freemasonry . Many tales are now being circulated of lives saved by the chance discovery of fellow Craftsmanship , and

of acts of kindness done because of the same commoninterest . These actions have , of course , been reciprocal , but coming from the Boers , who have not shown the same humanity in the field as the general run of British officers , they are the more striking . One officer records how , when

all his comrades were stripped to the skin and compelled to run alongside the mounts of their captors , he was spared such indignity , given a horse , and treated with every consideration . Another officer , also a Mason , was at once liberated by a Boer member of the Craft , and a third , who had lost his way on the veldt , was conducted within sight of his own column .
