held its usual weekly meeting at Bro . Maidwell's , tho Hercules , Leadenhall Street , on Thursday evening last , 25 th May . Present—Bros . Salmonese W . M ., Holland S . W ., Hocking J . W ., Ellis S . D ., Brient J . D ., Walker I . G ., Grammer Hon . Sec , Austin P . M . Preceptor , and numerous other brethren . The ceremony of tho 1 st degree was rehearsed , Bro . Maidwell being tho candidato . Tho 1 st section of the lecture was worked by Bro . Ellis , tho 3 rd and 4 th by Bro . Brient ,

and the 2 nd and 5 th by Bro . Horsley , assisted by the brethren . Bro . Lipscombe , of the Kent Lodge , was elected a joining member . It was proposed , seconded , and carried unanimously , that a voto of thanks be recorded on the minutes to tho W . M ., Bro . Salmonese , for the excellent manner in which he had discharged the dnties of the chair on this occasion , it being the first time at this Lodgo of Instruction . All Masonic business being ended , the Lodge was closed in perfect harmony .

Visitor , Bro . S . M . Hams 406 . Business—Tho Lodge was opened and the minutes confirmed . The certmony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Powell candidate . The ceremony of passing was rehearsed , Bro . Hill candidate . Tho 4 th and 5 th sections were worked by Bro . Beckett . Bro . S . M . Harris 406 was elected a joining member , and Bro . Dickinson was appointed W . M . for the ensuing week .

W ., Williams as J . W ., Morgan S . D ., Poynter I . G ., Deverell Tyler ; P . M . Bro . Fountain . Yisitor — Bro . Scriven 167 . Business—After tho minutes had been confirmed , the ballot was taken for Bro . M . Rest ,

S . W . 948 , which proving unanimous , he was admitted and regularly advanced to the degree of M . M . M ., Bro . Fountain P . M . assuming the chair whilst the W . M . and his Wardens took the respective chairs of the absent O . ' s . The election of W . M ., Treasurer and Tyler for the ensuing year was then proceeded with , and proved unanimous in favour of the S . W ., Bro . McCubbin , as W . M . elect , Fountain P . M .

Treasurer , and Deverell Tyler . It was carried unanimously that tho retiring W . M . should be presented with a P . M . ' s jewel , in recognition of his ability in working tho ceremonies of tho degree , ancl of his interest in Mark Masonry , in which sense that brother gratefully accepted the compliment . Tho now W . M . will , all being well , be installed by Bro . Howell on tho second Thursday in August next . All business being transacted , tho Lodge was closed ancl adjourned .

retiring firm the chair , in consideration of the efficient manner he had discharged his duties during his year of otiice . This was carried unanimously , ancl was subscribed to libeially . The resignation of two Coi' j-anions was accepted , with regret . The Chapter was then closed uniil November , ancl the Companions sat down to a very excellent banquet , provided by Comp . W . G . Jennings , ancl superintended by Comp . Keeping . The Z . then proposed the usual Loyal and R . A . toasts . Comp . S . Brown returned , thanks for the toaat of the newly

exalted . Comp . S . Pollitzer P . Z . in tho course of his speech , in giving tho toast of the M . E . Z ., said it was tho last time he would have an opportunity of proposing it . He must say that Comp . Emanuel had discharged his duty in the clnir in every respect ; in every office ho had held ho had also given evidence of his ability ; he has his bnsiness avocations , bnt time and distance is nothing to him . Ho had done

his duty , and in tho name of the Chapter he wished him health and loner life . ( Cheers . ) The M . E . Z . in reply , enumerated the various offices he had held in tho Craft . He said it seemed like a dream , to rise from the other end to the highest office tho Chapter could bestow , but he was pleased to hear thoir expressions of satisfaction that he had done his duty , not only in the Chapter , but also in presiding over

them . The position of a P . Z . of a London Chapter carries great weight in every county , and he was pleased to inform them that shortly ho hoped to bo tho possessor of Provincial Grand Lodge honours . Tho M . E . Z . then proposed tho toast of tho Visitors , they wero but few in number , but they held distinguished positions in tho Order , and he , as well as every Companion , was pleased to see thorn .

Comp . F . Walters P . Z ., 1 st Asst . Prov . G . Chapter Middlesex , returned thanks for tho toast , and spoko of tho excellent working of tho Chapter , and tho high qualifications of the P . Z ., who had done good suit and service . He was pleased to see one among them who had received Grand Lodgo honours . Comp . W . W . Morgan , 141 , followed , he thanked tho brethren for the hearty reception ho had received .

He was pleased toseethegreat unanimity of feeling that existed amongst the Companions ; while that feeling lasted the Chapter must flourish . Comp . Skinner , 177 , also returned thanks . Comp . H . M . Levy I . P . Z . responded for tho toast of tho P . Z . Tho M . E . Z . then proposed tho toast of the M . E . Z . elect , ancl tho newly elected Principals ancl Officers . He regretted tho absence of tho former Companion , through indispositian ; he spoko of the qualifications of tho H ., the J . and the P . Z . ;

tho S . E ., Comp . Dickinson , had ably discharged his duty for two successive years ; the books wero never bettor kept , and every detail was satisfactorily carried out ; bis services wero fully appreciated by every member of tho Chapter , aud ho hoped to see him in duo course occupy tho chair of M . E . Z . Comps . W . Littaur , Jacobs , Dickinson , ancl Phillips severally returned thanks . During the evening Comp . Morgan artistically delivered a recitation . Comp . Dickinson also contributed to the harmony . The Companions separated early .

Confidence Lodge of Instruction , 193 . —The Lodge met as usual , at Masons' Hall Tavern , Masons' Avenuo , Basinghall Street , E . G ., on Wednesday , the 24 th inst . Present—Bros . Hollands W . M . acquitted himself so well ot his rather difficult task as to elicit tho hearty approbation of tho assembly . Tho three sections of tho lecture were worked by Bro . Gottheil , assisted by the brethren . Tho Lodge having been lowered to tho 1 st degree , Bros . Macarthy , Benson ancl Bagg wore unanimously elected joining members of this Lodgo of Instruction . Bro . Blackall will preside on the next occasion .

McTaggart D . M . P . G . S ., J . Gillies P . G . Treas ., J . Miller 87 P . G . J . D ., J . Balfour P . G . D . of C , John Miller 413 P . G . D . of Music , J . Allison P . G . J . D ., J . Ritchie P . G . A ., D . Reed P . G . I . G ., and J . B . Hardie P . G . T . The

report was of a highly satisfactory nature , tho minute book was most admirably kept , and though there had been 22 initiates during tho year there had not been ono emergency meeting called , and the requirements of the Constitution had been fully carried ont . The Acting P . G . M . said his only regret to-night was that Bro . Ncilson was still too unwell to bo amongst them , but , as tho next best thing , ho would

read them a letter lie had addressed to all tho Lodges in tho Province . Bro . Limit it expressed tho pride ho fell at listening to such a favourable report , and it . should bo no fault of his if they wore nor able to give as good a ono next year for his term of office . Tho deputation then retired , and for the first time for twelve months tho LocL . e

proceeded to work . an emergency meeting , by initiating Mr . John J Lackey and passing thirteen other brethren to tho Follow Craft degree . Bro . Loutlit was assisted iu this work bv Bro . D .
