THE annual installation meeting was held at the Masonio Hall , Battle , on Thursday the 18 th inst , when there was one of the largest assemblies that had ever attended this important local event . A toast list was gone through , the speeches being more than usually interesting , that of Bro . Jenkins P . M . 341 being a most eloquent appeal on behalf of the Charities of the Institution . Tbo musical arrangements were under the direction of Bro . Baker Gny , who sang

several of his best songs in roost splendid style , aud several of the brethren contributed to the harmony . Altogether tho banquet and the meeting proved most pleasant and enjoyable , and tho W . M . of this flourishing Lodge is to be congratulated on the happy auspices under whioh he commences his year of office . A pleasant feature in the

proceedings of the Lodge was the presentation of a beautiful P . M . ' s jewel , whioh had been voted by the brethren to Bro . Raper I . P . M , as a testimony of the kind regard in which he is held by them , and in recognition of tho able and genial manner iu whioh ho presided over the Lodge during his year of office .

WENTWORTH LODGE , No . 1239 . A LODGE of Emergency was held on Wednesday , the 17 th inst , at the Masonio Hall , Snrrey Streot , Sheffield , for the purpose of presenting Past Masters' jewels to all the Past Masters of the Lodge who continue as subscribing members of the Craft . The presentations were made by the Worshipful Maater Bro . Wilson , who after appropriate remarks , pinned the jewels on the breast of

MORECAMBE LODGE . No . 1561 .

THE annual excursion in connection with this Lodge took place on Wednesday , the 17 th inst , the place chosen being the Lake District . The morning was not very favourable , but upwards of 25 Masons , with their wives and friends , proceeded to Lake Side , where they embarked on board one of tbe steamers for Water Head . At this place char-a-bancs were in waiting to convoy them through

a portion of the Lake District , including Clapsgate and Red Bank , to Graamero , at which latter place the party partook of an excellent dinner , at the Rothay Hotel . A conple of hours were spent here in visiting tho graves of Wordsworth and Coleridge , and other places of

interest . The return journey lay through Rydal , Ambleside , Low Wood , Troutbeck , & o , to Bowness , where the party partook of an excellent tea , at the Stag ' s Head . They then proceeded to Windermere station en route for Morecambe , where they arrived at 10 ' 30 , The latter part of the day was very fine and pleasant .

SCOTS LODGE , No . 2319

THE members had a summer trip and ladies' meeting , with a banquet , at the Royal Hotel , Henley , on Thursday , the 18 th inst . Leaving London at ten o'clock in special saloon carriages , the company travelled to Windsor . Hero the party loft the train , and proceeded to Henloy on board tho steam launch " May Queen , " belonging to Mr . Jas . Taylor , of Chortsey . Tho weather was

delightful and tho scenery was very much enjoyed , Henley being reached abont fivo o ' clock . Tho piper—Mr . John Mackenzie—who had accompanied tho party , played tho bagpipes at intervals , and on landing led tho company to a large marquee , erected on tho lawn of the Royal Hotel , facing the river , where a sumptuous dinner waa

admirably served . Tho menu was enriched by selections from Burns , and included a number of Scottish dishes . The party numbered more than 100 ladies aud gentlemen . Bro . John Whitehead P . M . tho Worshipful Master of the Lodgo presided , tho two vico-ohairs being filled by Bro . John Page P . M . ( W . M . elect ) S . W , and Bro .

Duncan F . Gellion P . M . J . W . The tables and the marquee were profusely decorated with choice flowers aud ferns , but tho chief feature was the rose , shamrock , and thistle , arranged around tho poles running tho entire length of the marquee . Mr . Manloy , florist , Hart-street , carried out this work . Tho only toasts given were the

Queen , tho Ladies , who had graced tho banquet with their presence , and the Chairman . Although the greater part of the company left by the eight o ' clock train , others remained till 9 ' 35 , song and sentiment filling up tho time . Everything passed off admirably , and Mr . and Mrs . Trotman , who personally superintended all the arrangements , were complimented and thanked for the very superior manner

in which the Scottish banquet had beon served . Tho piper played at intervals during dinner , and , when the haggis was brought into the marquee , walked round in front of the chefs , who carried the choice dish elevated above their heads , the event being the signal for much applanse . " Auld Lang Syne " was sung at the close of the day , with patriotic enthusiasm .
