LODGE OF ANTIQUITY , No . 178 . rHHE members of this Lodgo held their annual pic-nic on Wed--1- nesday , 17 th insfc ., when thoy visited Beeston Castle , Cheshire . About thirty-five brethren , with their ladiea , journeyed in saloons , per London and North Western Railway to Hartford , where conveyances were in waiting to carry them to Beeston . On their way to the latter placo the party , by special permission , were allowed to go
through Lord Delomere ' a grounds , Vale Royal . Ou arriving at Beeston , tho party made their way to the Castle Hotel , where a splendid repast waa ia readiness . The meal , which was excellently served by the host ( Mr . S . Williamson ) , was greatly appreciated , and
this part of the proceedings concluded , the party visited the ancient Castle . The rains were minutely inspected , and the party subsequently took tea ia the grouada . Beeston was left shortly after six o ' clock , and the company left Hartford afc 8 " 20 , arriving ia Wigan a few minntea after nine .
ON Thursday , fche 18 th insfc ., this Lodge celebrated the Festival of St . John the Baptist , at their Lodge-room at the Macclesfield Arms Hotel . Tho Lodge met afc 230 , under the presidency of the retiring W . M . Bro . T . Brough , and there was a good muster of brethren . Bro . Thos . Richards was installed W . M . for the ensuing year , by Bros . Brough and W . I . Bates . The W . M . appointed his

pleasant evening , and ono long to bo remembered in tho history of the Lodge , was spent . The usual Loyal aud Masonic toasts wero dul y honoured , the health of tho Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master hia Deputy and Officers was drunk . Tho Right Worshipful
Provincial Grand Master , in responding , referred in commendatory tonus to the manner iu which the business of tho Lodgo of Peace aud Harmony waa conducted , and congratulated the brethreu upou the vory influential and prosperous condition of the Lodgo .

Tho proposer and seconder referred to the fact that they had taken au active part iu assisting to bring about , aud producing evidence before , fcho recent Committee of Inquiry into tho management
of the Boy ' s School , and they hoped and believed that nothing bnt good to the Institution would result from thafc Inquiry . They had now tho greatest possible pleasure in asking fcho Lodge to strengthen

Provincial Grand Master thou com . plimented tho W . M . and Officers upon tho excellent manner in which , nofc only tho two passings , but tbo entire business of the Lodgo hart

a Staffordshire Lodge was acting ao nobly in the matter , and he doubted nofc thafc tho action of tbe "Mentaria" would carry influence even beyond the borders of hia own Province . Colonel Gough then referred , in eulogistic terms , to a paper on voting ia Lodges ( as to candidates ) , whioh waa read by Bro . Greatbatch
before the members of the Lodge recently , a printed copy of whioh he had received . He thoroughly endorsed the principles suggested , ia the paper , aad he thought ifc a most useful and commendable
contribution . Ho apologised for having to leave the Lodge before it waa closed , bat was compelled to do so in order fco catch a train . After the departure of the R . W . Prov . Grand Master the Lodge waa closed , and the brethren adjourned to light refreshment in fche anteroom .
