— : o : — Criterion . —Mr . C . Wyndham has once more deemed it adviaa . to revive that amusing comedy " Betay , " aud judging from the reception accorded her abe has come to stay . Mr . P . C . Bnrnaud ' s adaptation of " Bebe , " is so well known that it is hardly necessary for us to say anything about it here ; nevertheless the piece ia so full of humour that one is bound to thoroughly enjoy it . It seems

strange to have a revival of " Betay " without Misa Lottie Venue , but an able and painstaking substitute has been found in Miss Jenny Rogers . She is pretty , sprightly , and amusing , and never fails to make every point . Miaa Rogers acts BO well that it seems to nerve her companions to do likewise . Mr . William Blakeley resumes his old part of Mr . Alexander Birkett , and is aa droll as ever , while Mr .

George Giddens ia once more the Richard Talbot . The part of Adolphus Birkett is now entrusted to Mr . Welton Dale , who scores well , and Mr . S . Valentine is capital as Capt . Redmond MoManus . It was some time ago that we saw Mr . D . S . Jamea play a part in a piece at one of the exhibitions , and at the time it struck ns that before

long we should see that young actor at one ot the West End theatres . We are glad to see that this has come to pass , and in the careful portrayal of the part of Mr . Samuel Dawson Mr . James shows all the qualities of a good actor . It ia a good performance , and one that should help him np the ladder of fame . Miss Fanny Robertson and Miss F . Francis onco moro undertake the

parts of Mrs . Birkett and Mrs . MoManus respectively , while Misa Ellis Jeffreys looked very nice as Madame Polenta . The other parts were in the hands of Mr . 0 . Edmonda ( barber ) , Mr . Terrio ( servant ) , Miss M . Studholme ( Nellie Baskett ) , and Miss A . MoRao

( Grace Peyton ) . " Betay" ia preceded by a capital little operetta , entitled " Poor Mignonette , " adapted from the French by A . R . Sohade , musio by Offenbaob , and lyrics by Percy Reeve . This is well played by Messrs . Sydney Valentine aud VV . R . Shirley , and Miss Haidee Crof ton .
