fche W . M . was enthusiastically received , as also was that of the I . P . M ., Bro . Thomas Geach . Bro . A . R . Lethbridge then presented Bro . Geach with a handsome P . M . 's jewel , bearing the following inscription : — " Presented to Bro . Thos . Geach P . M ., by the brethren of Lodge Ebrington , 1847 , in appreciation of his Masonic zeal . 18 S 8 . "

Bro . Geach suitably acknowledged the gift . Tho toasfc of the P . M . ' s of the Lodge having been given , Brother S . Jew , in proposing fche Treasurer and Secretary , said no two better officers conld ba fonnd . Bros . Nicholson and Lose replied . Later in the evening Bro .

Jew presented Bro . Sutton with a splendid marble clock , with a cathedral gong , bearing the following inscription , on a silver plate : — " Presented by the brethren of Lodgo Ebrington , 1817 , to Bro C . P . Sutton , as a mark of esteem on his leaving tho neighbourhood , 1888 . "

Bro . Jew said Bro . Sutton had rendered valuable services to tho brethren , being most assiduous as a junior officer ; he had often catered for the Lodge in an admirable manner . Bro . Snfcton waa mosfc genial in manner , and ever ready to assist the W . M . or tha Lodge in every way possible . Bro . Sutton suitably replied . Other Masonic toasts were given .

THE annual festival was celebrated in the Masonic HaU , Middles , borough , on the 11 th inst ., when Bro . Henry Cochrane , the W . M . elect , was installed . The ceremony of installation was performed by Bro . the Hon . W . T . Orde-Powhtt ' D . P . G . M . of the North and East Eidings and Pasfc Graud Warden of England , ia the presence of a very large gathering of Provincial Grand Officers and Visiting

brethren of neighbouring Lodges . The following Officers wero invested : —Bros . Cooper I . P . M ., Longbotham S . W ., Ward J . W ., Dales Chaplain , Winberscbladen S . D ., Glen J . D ., Proudlock I . G ., Cochrane Secretary , Cowper Treasurer , Malcolm D . C , Brewster and Jones Stewards , Ingram Tyler . After the investiture , a banquet was held at the Corporation Hall .

HERSCHELL LODGE . No . 1894

ON Tuesday , the 17 th inst ., the members of this Lodge held their meeting in their new quarters at the Leopold Institute , Slough , which was recently opened by the Duchess of Albany . The Lodge has now the use of one of the finest rooms in the kingdom , its chief

adornment beins ** a portrait of the great astronomer after whom ifc is named , and which was presented to his grandson , Sir William Hersohell . The ceremony was attended by the Rev . It . P . Bent , one of the founders and first Master of the Lod'e , and other brethren .

SPENCER LODGE , No . 2197

A meeting of thia Temperance Lodge was held on Monday evening , the 9 th instant , at the Masonic Hall , Douglas , Iale of Man . The business included the initiation of one candidate , the raising of another , and the proposal of two further candidates . Bro . T . H . Nesbitt W . M . conducted the labours of the Lodge , with his

nsual ability . Subsequently tho brethren partook of an excellent supper , provided by Bvo . G . J . Nattan , of the Granville Hotel . The W . M . presided . The visitors were in strong force , and a most harmonious evening was spent .

AN emergency meeting of this flourishing young Lodge was held on Saturday , the 14 th instant , at the Welsh Harp , Henchm . There were present Brother W . A . Scurrah W . M ., W . M . Stiles P . M . Treasurer , A . H . Scurrah Secretary , Thorn S . W ., Fraser J . W ., Lewis S . D ., Nottingham J . D ., Hearn D . C , Langley I . G ., Wheeler Organist-, Whiting Tyler , and a goodly number of members and

visitors ; Bro . Mather being among the former . The visitors were Bros , H . Dickey W . M . 1613 , Midgeley 1741 , Mayes 179 , A . W . Gerrard and Webb 2048 . The Lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . The Lodge was opened in the second degree , and after the usua'

preliminariea the following F . C's were entrusted , and they retired : — W . B . and A . M . Parsons , C H . Watts , aud Mansell Powell . Lodge was then opened in the third degree , and the last named brethren were duly raised to tho sublime degree of M . M . Lodgo was resumed in fche second degree and Bro . F . "W . Hearne , J . Hudson , J . H . D . ibbs ,

and T . Eason wero passed to the F . C . degree . The ballot was then taken for Messrs . G . H . Stausall , H . Elliott and Williams , and was found unanimous in their favour . AU threecancliria'es being present , they were duly initiated into tho mysteries of Freemasonry . Nothing further offering , the Lodge was closed in due form . The brethren

subsequently dined together , tho W . M . presiding . Tho usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were severally honoured , Bro . Mather responding for the Grand Lodge . The acting I . P . M ., Bro . W . M . Stile .- proposed the toast of the W . M ., in very felicitous terms . The name of Iiro . W . A . Scurrah was received with enthusiasm , the toast being heatt ly

responded to by tho brethren . In reply the W . M . eaid : —I beg to thank onr Bro . Treasurer for the very kind way in which ho has proposed the toast of my health , and you , breth .-en , for the mannerin which you have responded to it . Most of yon know the difficiilth-s experienced in the foundation of this Lodge . 1 did think , at one

time , that we should not be successful , bud as yon know the warrant ¦ was granted and our Lodge has been formed . We are progressing most favourably , aud although our Lodgo is only six months old wo have around this festive Board 22 members , which bears out tlie statement I made to the Grand S ; cvetary when I urged upon him the

desirability of our forming this Lodge , that there were many thousand inhabitauts in Heudon , but it had no Lodge . This seemed to have great weight with the Graud Secretary , and there is no doubt that to that fact we , iu a great measure , owe the existence of our Lodge . Brother Langley , their I . G ., was coming on in a most efficient manner , aud Brother Hra-n D . C . had rendered most valuable assistance . Their Organist , Brother Wheeler , waa deserving of great praise for the manner in which the musical part of the ceremonies had been performed . The thanks of the Lodge weie a ' ao dno
