WEST LANCASHIRE CHARITY .

THE West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution holds a position amongst charitable schemes which is absolutely unique , as during the past half-century it has educated , clothed , maintained , and advanced in the battle of life thousands of children of deceased Freemasons , who would otherwise have been cast on the world without

eqipment , the real merit of the excellent work thus carried out being that no official charge of any kind has ever been necessary , the entire management of the scheme being purely

voluntary . Another prominent feature of the chanty is that , since its establishment , no child whose claims were wellfounded has ever been refused admission to the benefits of the Institution , even on the first application . This creditable

DURHAM GHAR 1 TY .

IN view of the coming Masonic Festival at Durham , to be held on the 12 th of April next , a meeting of Stewards to the number of about 100 was held in the Masonic Hall , Durham , on Saturday , 14 th inst ., for the purpose of making arrangements necessary for what is expected to be one of

the most important Masonic functions ever held in the county . The meeting was presided over by the Very Reverend Canon Tristram , in the unavoidable absence , through indisposition , of the Provincial Grand Master Sir Hedworth Williamson , Bart .

Col . Rowlandson was appointed Treasurer , and Bros . Robert Hudson and John Robinson were appointed as Secretaries .

It was unanimously decided to ask the authorities to hold a special service in the ancient Cathedral of Durham , after which the Brethren and ladies will dine in the large hall of the University . The amounts brought up by the various Stewards will be announced during the banquet . The various Committees were appointed .
