SYKES LODGE , Wo . 1040 . Installation of Brother E . F . Taylor . HP HE ceremony of installing the Worshipful Master-elect Bro .

I E , P . Taylor was performed in the Masonic Hall , Driffield , on Wednesday , 18 th inst ., the Installing Officer being Bro . T . B . Whytehead W . M . Quatuor Goronati Lodge , No . 2076 P . P . S . G . W . N . and B . Yorks and P . G . Sword Bearer of England .

LEWISES LODGE , No . 1209 . Installation of Brother P . "W . Pointer . THE annual meeting was held at the Eoyal Hotel , Earnsgate , on Wednesday , 18 th inst ., when Bro . P . W . Pointer was installed as W . M . for the ensuing year . A banquet was afterwards served , over forty Brethren sitting down , the chair being taken by the newly-appointed Master .

WILBEBFOHCE LODGE , Wo . 2134 . Installation of Brother George H . Strong . THE installation meeting took place in the Masonic Hall , St . Luke's Street , Hull , on the 10 th inst ., Bro . John Work W . M . being in the chair , supported by Bros . George H . Strong S . W . Worshipful Master-elect , H . Bean J . W ., A . Spring P . M .

Bro . George H . Strong was duly and impressively installed by the retiring Master , who was assisted by Past Masters T . T . Davis , J . Mackaill , and J . T . Belt . Before the closing of the Lodge , the chiefs of the sister Lodges present expressed their hearty good wishes to the Worshipful Master for a happy and successful year of office .

Bro . Harold Bean presented , on behalf of the Wilberforce Brethren , a very beautiful Past Master ' s jewel to Bro . John Work I . P . M ., as a token of their esteem and entire satisfaction with the

efhcient manner m which he had discharged the duties of his Office during the past year . Bro . Work acknowledged the compliment in suitable terms . The jewel bore the following inscription : —

Presented to BEO . JOHN WOKE , by the members of the Wilberforce Lodge , 2134 , as a mark of their esteem and in appreciation of his valuable services as their Worshipful Master

during the year 1899-1900 . 10 th April 1900 . The installation banquet followed , the Worshipful Master

presiding , supported by Officers and members of his Lodge and by most of the visiting Brethren . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were given from the chair , and enthusiastically acknowledged .

Bro . J . T . Belt P . M . P . P . G . St . B . submitted the W . M . of the Wilberforce and his Officers . He said it was his privilege to initiate their new Master during his year oiOffice . As a member

of the Naval Architect Engineers , and also a member of the Ambulance movement , he had displayed conspicuous ability , and he had no doubt Bro . Strong would bring to the discharge of his duties as their Master those distinguishing characteristics which had already secured him such success in his other departments of life . Their new Officers generally gave great promise Masonically , and would doubtless do their utmost to render the year

successful . The Worshipful Master , in responding , said he felt that the members had done him a great honour , and he should do his best to emulate the Masters who had preceded him in the chair of

the Lodge . If he succeeded in doing that he thought he would justify his selection . Bro . Councillor John Pybus S . W ., aud Bro . D . Danby J . W . also responded .

CONSTANCE LODGE , No . 2135 . Installation of Brother George Pattriek . ON Tuesday , the 17 th inst ., the fifteenth anniversary of this Lodge took place in the Masonic Hall , Consett , when Bro . George Pattriek S . W . was installed Worshipful Master for the

ensuing year . The ceremony was performed by Bro . George Murray jun . W . M . in the presence of a good gathering of members and visiting Brethren . At the subsequent festival of St . John

the Evangelist an excellent dinner was purveyed by Mrs . Chorley . Bro . Pattriek , who presided , presented Bro . Murray with a Past Master ' s jewel , in appreciation of his services to the Lodge .

GRAFT : METROPOLITAN .

WESTBOURNE LODGE , No . 733 . THE regular meeting of this well-known Lodge was held on Thursday , 19 th inst ., at the Holborn Bestaurant . Bro . Charles Edward Lilly Worshipful Master presided and impressively raised Bros . Young , Newman , Middleton , and Barnes to the sublime degree of Master Mason . The Immediate Past Master Bro . George Weaver initated Mr . Prank Chidley into the mysteries of the Craft .

The usual banquet followed , together with a well arranged musical enter tainment , which was much enjoyed .

DORIC LODGE , No . 933 . THIS Lodge met on Tuesday evening , 10 th inst ., at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street , Bro . Harry J . Seal W . M ., in the chair , supported by Bros . Bobt . Ayton jun . I . P . M ., Walter Gladding S . W ., Bobert Liddiard J . W ., B . Ayton P . M . Treasurer , A . Calvert P . M . Seoretary , John Claus S . D ., W . Binfield J . D ., W . A . Moss , J . Bushforth , B . Tucker , W . Caslake , Jas . Smith , and T . G . Scott Past Masters , and others .

Lodge being opened , Messrs . W . A . Barker and John Evan Jones were initiated in due form , after which the correspondence received attention , and the Brethren adjourned to an unpretentious but ample supper , followed by the customary toasts . Bro . Meyer ' s reply for the visitors was particularly interesting , giving , as

it did , some special information concerning Masonic customs in South Africa , tending to prove the universality of the Brotherly feeling that exists among Freemasons of all nationalities . Bro . W . E . Goodwins also gave an interesting reply . The W . M . and the Officers were especially complimented on the efficient working of the Lodge .

Bros . Ayton and Calvert also met with special honour , this being the closing meeting of the season . The vocalisation was particularly good , Bro . Goodwins acting as accompanist , and contributing some capital songs , amongst them being one just brought out , " Oh I vvhat will it be when the boys come home ? " which met with hearty approval . Bro . Boswell , who had been absent from several

meetings through illness , was heartily welcomed , and proved his return to health with all necessary vitality by his happy rendering of several humorous songs . Bro . Bobort Ayton also had a particular congratulation on his restoration to the faculty of useful action . Bros ., Meyer , Claus , Barker , Higgs , and Scott assisted with songs , and Bro . Calver gave the recitation of Wolsey ^ s address to Cromwell with accustomed vigour and emphasis .

ORPHEUS LODGE , No . 1706 . THE ordinary meeting 'of this celebrated musical Lodge was held on Saturday , 31 st ult ., at the Holborn Bestaurant , under the presidency of Bro . C . G . Sadler W . M . The work performed consisted of the passing of Bro . Hersey to the second degree , and the initiation of Mr . William Frankland and Mr . William Shorter .

The letter from the Prince of Wales , recommending his fund for the assistance of Brethren in South Africa who where suffering from the war , was read by Bro . B . J . Hennings Secretary , and , after a short discussion , the sum of ten guineas was voted to the fund . It was announced in the course of the evening that Mr . W . Paul Hodges , the son of the late Bro . John Hodges P . M . Musical Director of the Lodge , had presented a volume containing the printed musical programmes of the meetings from 1880 to 1890 . The gift was highly appreciated .

The proceedings of the day concluded with an excellent banquet . Some charming part songs were rendered between the customary toasts . Bro . B . Clowes P . G . St . Bearer Treasurer , in replying to the toast of the Grand Officers , reminded the Brethren that the Duke of Connaught M . W . Past Grand

Master would lay the first stone of the Bushey School of the Boyal Masonic Institution for Boys , on Saturday , 12 th prox ., when he hoped the Brethren would rally round his Boyal Highness , and show their appreciation of his kindness . In July His Boyal Highness would preside at the 102 nd anniversary of the Institution , The festival would be held at Brighton , and
