M . opened the Lodge , and referred in suitable and feeling terms to the groat loss tho Lodge had sustained by the sudden death of Bro . Frank Taylor , CO ., P . M . It was proposed by tho W . M ., seconded by Bro . Wilkinson-Pimbury , and nnanimously resolved by the brethren , that

a letter of sympathy shonld bo addressed to Mrs . Frank Tayler . The minutes having been confirmed , Bro . Mount Brown raised Bro . Harry McClintock Harris to the sublime degree of a Master Mason , and immediately after that ceremony installed Bro . Charles Lamb W . M . elect into the Master's ohair , giving tho customary addresses in a manner that elicited the applause of tho brethren . The now

A HIGHLY auceeasfnl and long to be remembered meeting took place on Wedneaday , afc Mrs . Stopford ' s , Old Boar ' a Head Hotel . Nearly all the membera of this Lodgo are professional vocalists and instrumentalists , several being membera of Sir Charles Halle ' s orcheatra . The genial W . M . Bro . Oliver Gaggs ia a flutist , and has instituted an annual musical evening , a notification of which appeared on the circular with a request thafc all brethren wishing to take part

In the second degree Bro . Nicholl , who waa ready and willing to take hia third degree , was interrogated aa to his

proficiency in tho former , and withdrew . He waa snbaequently raised to the sublime degree by the W . M ., Brother Charles Turner relating the traditional history , explaining the tracing board , and presenting the -working tools . There being no farther business , hearty good wishes were expressed by the numerous Visitors , and

the Lodgo was closed iu peace and harmony . Tho brethren afterwards partook of tea ; when this was finished , the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts wore hononred , tho intervals between each being devoted to a performance of vocal and instrumental music . chorus , " Faust , " by Bros . Blacon , Koimell , Clougb , W . aud N . Dumville , Mark Stafford , William Booth , Turner , and Goldthorpe ; a " nocturne , " played magnificently by Bro . Harmer on the violin , and vociferousl y applauded . Brother Harmer also played a duet with Bro . Avison , who manipulated the violoncello . Bro . Cuthbert Blacon sang " He like a soldier fell , " accompanied by the band , and Brother

Kennell gave " I am a Friar of Orders Grey . A solo on the oboe by Bro . Reynolds wns played in grand style , after which Bro . dough , who has a splendid baritone voice , sang i'insuti ' s " Tho Raft , " with great expression and finish . Bro . W . H . Murphy played a selection In the mandoline , accompanied on thu piano by Brother Tom Gaggs . Bro . Lisenden recited "Tho life of a soldier , " ancl , by desiro , " Over the hills from tho poorhouso , " and Bro . Goldthorpe sang "The

loacher . " Every ono did his utmost to please his professional and non professional brethren , and succeeded in every sense of the word . To seo tho beaming countenance of tho W . M ., and note his keen enjoyment when listening to the execution of tho various pieces , was a veritable treat , and a picture of " Oliver Gaggs at home . " During the evening a telegram was despatched to Sir Arthur •Sullivan , congratulating him ou his recovery .

would soon be fnlly restored to health . All Masonio business being ended the Lodge was closed . After the dinner which followed fche usual Loyal and Masonic toasts wore duly honoured . Iu proposing the Worshipful Master , the acting I . P . M . said that it was a very pleasant task , as all so very greatly respected Brother Foikard . Ho could say that hia difficult taak was well performed . He might add

that the management of the Lodge waa perfect , and could not he surpassed by any other Lodge . The W . M . responded , expressing his determination to deserve well of the Lodge . The toast of the Visitors was well received and responded to . All the Visitors present were satisfied with the arrangements of the Lodge . In proposing fche Past Masters and Officers tho W . M . happily referred

to tho characteiistics of each member . Bro . S . Cochrane responded for the Past Masters , and drew attention to the Charities . He gavo a description of the Girls' Festival , nnder the presidency of H . R . H . the Dnke of Connaught , from whioh he had hurried away to reach tho Lodge . He also pointed out that £ 67 , 000 had been raised for the " old people" thia year . Thia shonld be enongh to satisfy any one

of the good of tho Order . Bro . Wyer also responded . Bros . Beavan S . W ., Langdon J . W ., Harvey S . D . ( W . M . elect 1963 ) , Lyell J . W ., Rashleigh acting I . General Purposes , but also aa Grand Treasurer in 1893 . Brother Cochrane had worked so hard that it would be an honour to Grand Lodge to havo him aa Grand Treasurer . Brothers Stracey , Lyell , Langdon , Roberts and Winny contributed towards the harmony of the evening .

WEST LANCASHIRE CENTURY LODGE , No . 2349

THE annual Masonic service in connection with this Lodge was held in the Holy Trinity Church , South Shore , on Sunday afternoon , the 18 th inst . The brethren appeared in Craft clothing and jewels , white ties and white gloves , a dispensation having been granted by the Provincial Grand Maater , and they assembled afc the infants school in Lytham Road , and proceeded down Dean Street to

the church . The Rev . Chaplain of the Lodge , Bro . S . Y . B . Brad , ahaw P . M . 2349 and P . Prov . G . C . of East Lancashire and Northumberland , preached the aermon , whioh waa both | eloquent and suitable for the occasion . Bro . Bradshaw appealed for their sympathy on behalf of the Masonio Charities , and a collection was taken for suoh

Charities whioh amounted to £ 10 3 s 2 d . Bro . 0 . W . Fisher , Mas . Baa Cantab , P . M . 1476 and Provincial Grand Organist , presided afc the organ , and fche service was fully choral . Besides fche members of the Lodge , ( here were many members of neighbouring Lodges present , and a very large number of other persons .

the second degree , and retired . He . was subsequently passed to the degree of Fellow Craft by tho W . M ., Bro . Beever explaining tbe working tools at length . There being no further business the Lodgo was closed in peace and harmony . At the social board the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured . Bros . James Lowndes and J . P . Bedson replied for tho Prov . G . Officers . After fche health

of the newly-passed Bro . Hitching had been ably proposed by Bro . Martin Thomas , drank , and responded to , the W . M . proposed the Visiting Brethren in hia nsnal happy vein . In response , ono of the visitors , Bro . Cutter , said he had been a member of the Craft for over a quarter of a century , and had never been insido a moro perfect Lodge in his life . Tho excellent working all round , with the

additional charm of responses und singing , made a completeness that was not often witnessed , ancl created admiration in the eyes of all visitors . Bio . J . P . Bnclson said the fame of the Lo'lge was wide-spread , and although he had been going to pay the Lodgo a visit for the last two years he hud not been ablo to do so until that night , when he found everything that bad been spoken of it quit >

true . It was indeed a pleusuro aud un honour to belong to such a Lodge , and to witness the unanimity aud good feeling that pre - vailed . He assured them his visit had given him great pleasnre , and ho shonld certainly like to come again . Bro . Ballard replied in an exceedingly hnmorons speech that caused roars cf laughter . THE annual Masonic service in connection with this Lodge was held in the Holy Trinity Church , South Shore , on Sunday afternoon , the 18 th inst . The brethren appeared in Craft clothing and jewels , white ties and white gloves , a dispensation having been granted by the Provincial Grand Maater , and they assembled afc the infants school in Lytham Road , and proceeded down Dean Street to

the church . The Rev . Chaplain of the Lodge , Bro . S . Y . B . Brad , ahaw P . M . 2349 and P . Prov . G . C . of East Lancashire and Northumberland , preached the aermon , whioh waa both | eloquent and suitable for the occasion . Bro . Bradshaw appealed for their sympathy on behalf of the Masonio Charities , and a collection was taken for suoh

Charities whioh amounted to £ 10 3 s 2 d . Bro . 0 . W . Fisher , Mas . Baa Cantab , P . M . 1476 and Provincial Grand Organist , presided afc the organ , and fche service was fully choral . Besides fche members of the Lodge , ( here were many members of neighbouring Lodges present , and a very large number of other persons .

Cbarae to Brother Hitching , who was initiated afc the last meeting . Bro . Hitching afterwards answered tbe necessary questions leading from the first to

the second degree , and retired . He . was subsequently passed to the degree of Fellow Craft by tho W . M ., Bro . Beever explaining tbe working tools at length . There being no further business the Lodgo was closed in peace and harmony . At the social board the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured . Bros . James Lowndes and J . P . of the newly-passed Bro . Hitching had been ably proposed by Bro . Martin Thomas , drank , and responded to , the W . M . proposed the Visiting Brethren in hia nsnal happy vein . In response , ono of the visitors , Bro . Cutter , said he had been a member of the Craft for over a quarter of a century , and had never been insido a moro perfect Lodge in his life . Tho excellent working all round , with the

additional charm of responses und singing , made a completeness that was not often witnessed , ancl created admiration in the eyes of all visitors . Bio . J . P . Bnclson said the fame of the Lo'lge was wide-spread , and although he had been going to pay the Lodgo a visit for the last two years he hud not been ablo to do so until that night , when he found everything that bad been spoken of it quit >

true . It was indeed a pleusuro aud un honour to belong to such a Lodge , and to witness the unanimity aud good feeling that pre - vailed . He assured them his visit had given him great pleasnre , and ho shonld certainly like to come again . Bro . Ballard replied in an exceedingly hnmorons speech that caused roars cf laughter .
