TEE annual festival of St . John , and the installation of tho W . M . took place on the 17 th inst ., at tho Masonio Hall , Cheapside , Hanloy , when a highly successful gathering was hold , there being a largo attendance of members of the Mentnria Lodge , in addition to a number of visiting brethren from neighbouring Lodges . Tho Lodga was opened at three o'clock , when Bro . J . Robinson was installed

W . M . for tho ensuing year in succession to Bro . Herbert Windle . The newly-elected W . M . was installed by Bro . Windle , assisted by Bros . T . Bickley , E . V . Greatbatoh , J . S . Crapper , E . B . Jackaon , and W . H . Hales . After the installation ceremony , which was performed in an impressive manner , the W . M . installed the following

aa hia Officers : —Bros . W . Hampton b . W ., J . B . Devereux J . W ., Rev . A . S . Walters Chaplain , W . H . Hales Treasurer , D . Jones Secretary , J . Barlow S . D ., E . Jones J . D ., E . V . Greatbatch D . C , J . Goodson I . G ., W . Jones and M . Tunnioliff Stewards , and W . Wood Tyler . The Lodge having been duly closed , the brethren

adjourned to the Town Hall , where about eighty-six sat down to a banquet provided by Bro . J . Monro . The W . M . presided j and the Queen having been honoured , the W . M . proposed the Most Worshipful His Royal Highness the Prince of Walea Grand Master of England , the Princess of Wales , and the rest of the Royal Family ,

speaking of the attention the Prince of Wales devoted to Freemasonry and the great interest he took in the Craft . The Most Worshipful Pro Grand Master the Earl of Carnarvon , the Very Worshipful the Deputy Grand Master the Earl of Lathom , and the Officers of the Grand Lodge present and past , having been proposed ,

also from the chair , Bro . Bickley submitted the Right Worshipful Bro . Colonel Foster Gough , the Provincial Grand Master of Staffordshire . Bro . Biokley said he was sure every brother in the Province waa proud of the preaent position which Colonel Gough occupied , and thoy all wished him long life and good health to perform the

duties pertaining to the office . Bro . Tunnioliff next gave Bro . Lieutenant-Colonel Bindley , Deputy Provincial Grand Master , and the Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge present and past . In doing so , he expressed a hope that Bro . Bindley would soon visit the north of the Province , when he could assure him of a hearty welcome .

Bro . Pitohford having acknowledged the toast , Bro . Windle proceeded to propose the toast of the evening , Bro . J . Robinson W . M . for the ensuing year . In an eulogistic speech , Bro . Windle said in Bro . Robinson they had no ordinary Master . He was favoured with gifts above many of the brethren , and he felt sure he would use those

gifts to the advantage of the Mentnria Lodge . Bro . Robinson had been a member of the Lodge for a considerable number of years , and during that time ho had done credit to himself and to the Lodge , in which he had filled many offices , and he had no fear he would fill with credit tho chair which he had been elected to fill that day .

The toast waa then drunk m true hearty Masonic fashion . Tho W . M . responded in a very appropriate speech and thanked the brethren from his heart for the reception they had given him . He should like to say that if he had not felt capable of fulfilling the office of W . M . he should not have been occupying the position that

night . It would be his earnest endeavour to carry out the duties of the office to which they had done him the honour of eleoting him to the best of his ability . He looked forward with confidence to the support of his Officers during the ensuing year . Bro . Bromley next gave the health of the Visiting Brethren . Bro . Barker first

responded . He said he found a fire , a force , and a vigour in Masonry in Hanley , and it was a source of congratulation to find so many Past Masters in attendance , as well as the distinction which the Mentnria Lodge had attained in the Province . He further congratulated the Lodge upon its position in the benevolent portion of

Masonry , and the free and open manner in which the brethren of that Lodge had contributed in times past . Bro . Smith also responded , acknowledging the kind and generous hospitality shown that evening to tho visitors , and expressed his satisfaction and congratulation on seeing the confidence reposed in Bro ' . Robinson by the members of

tho Mentnria Lodge . The W . M . next proposed the health of tho I . P . M . Bro . Windle , and spoke of the latter as a brother who had a great interest in the progress of Masonry . Bro . Windle roturned thanks iu a suitable manner , after which he submitted the toast of the Masonic Charities , which was responded to by Bro . Ryder ,

tho Secretry of the Staffordshire Masonio Charitable Association , who said that tho Menturia Lodge stood very noarly in the premier position , as regarded the amount of contributions to the Masonic Charities . He referred with satisfaction to the action taken b y Bros . Greatbatch and TunniclitT in regard to the inquiry in respect

to tho conduct of the Masonic Instution for Boys . Alluding to tbe Secretary of that Institution , Bro . Binckes , he said that the pension proposed to be granted to that brother would not trench on the funds of tho Institution . Bro . Greatbatch also replied , and thoroughly justified tho action that had been taken in regard to the Institution

referred to . A clean sweep of the officials had been made , with the exception of the Secretary , and he believed tho result would be that the Boys' Institution would in the future raise tho credit of tho Craft . Tho remaining toasts were the Past Masters of the Lod ^ e ,

tha Officers of tho Lodge , tho Ladie 3 , and all Poor and Distressed Masons . Dating the evening a capital musical programme , arranged by Bro . Baker , was gone through , tho m ambers of the Lodgo contributing to it .

John Thomas Hansell . The Offioera appointed for

ON the 12 th inst . the celebration of the annual festival and installation of the Worshipfnl Maater took plaoe in the Masonio Hall , Thirsk . Bro . Francis Robert Hansell waa installed aa W . M . for the ensuing year , the ceremony of installation being performed by Bro . T . B . WhyteheadP . M . P . P . G . S . W . North aud East Yorkshire , assisted by the W . M . Bro . John Thomas Hansell . The Offioera appointed for

the coming year were as follows : —Bros . Hansell I . P . M ., Buchanan S . W ., Rev . Eusebius Richardson J . W ., Coltman Treasurer , Greonsidea Secretary , Cass S . D ., Grant J . D ., Hall D . C , Wright Organist , Rudd I . G ., Hartley P . M . Preceptor , Wilkinson P . M . Lecturer , Hansell I . P . M . Librarian , Smith and Tweedy Stewards , Ayre Almoner and

Charity Steward , Farmery Tyler . The I . P . M ., Bro . J . Hansell , after the installation , was presented with a Past Master ' s gold jewel by Bro . William Coltman P . M . P . G . J . D ., ho having presented to the Lodge a list enumerating the Masters' names since the formation of

the Lodges , whioh was framed in a handsome panelled oak frame , made by Brother J . Coulson . The members and the visiting brethren ( who wero numerous ) after the installation , adjourned to the Three Tuns Hotel , where an excellent banquet waa provided for them .

The ceremony of passing and initiation having been gone through , and other Masonio business transacted , the Lodgo adjourned to a banquet , and a very pleasant evening was spout by the brethren .

The brethren , to tho number of sixty , then adjourned to tho refectory , where they sat dowu to an excellent banquet , which was well served up by Bro . W . Q . Bosworthick . Tho W .
