We understand the late Bro . W . Kelly P . Prov . G . M . of Leicestershire and Eutland left £ 5 , 000 for old age

pensions under Corporation management at Leicester , a gift quite in keeping with the well known kindly sentiments of our departed Brother . o o o

Bro . Arthur Fry , the business manager of the Lyric Theatre , London , has informed a representative of a weekly contemporary of an incident which he calls unique in the history of Masonry . It was when he was

touring with a theatrical company in South Africa , and during the time he was there the Transvaal war was raging . He had become a volunteer during the war . They were at Pretoria . He says : — " In order to keep

up the charter of the Lodge we obtained peimission to hold a Lodge in the Masons' Hall . It was on the opposite side of the lagaar to where the soldiers were

stationed . All the Masons in the camp availed themselves of the permission , and on this very night a personal friend was initiated . Before the Lodge opened

we had to knock bricks out of the walls to serve as loopholes in case of an attack , and our arms were stacked in the preparing room , ready to meet any emergency that might turn our friendly gathering into a

fight for life . Eoitunately we weie left alone , but in returning to camp a heavy lire was opened upon us by the Boers . "

o o o We may remind our readers that the weekly meetings of the Camden Chapter of Improvement will be resumed at the " Moorgate , " 15 Finsbury Pavement ,

on Tuesday next . Comp . Edmonds again asks us to express bis desire to see all the old members at the opening , and he further hopes to see a large number of new members . o o o

The Installation meeting of the Bradstow Lodge , No . 2448 , was held on Wednesday , at Broadstairs , when Bro . Arthur George Harvey was placed in the chair , the whole of the work being fautlessly performed by Bro . E . H . White the outgoing Master . We shall give a full repoit of the proceedings in our next issue .

u u u The Installation of the Chough Lodge , No . 2264 , took place on Thursday , when Bro . J . W . Dewsnap W . M . installed his successor , Bro . George Scott Miller . Our repoit of the proceedings will appear next week .
