onAFT. — : o : — CONSECRATION OF THE ANDERIDA LODGE , No . 2434 .

A LARGE and influential gathering of Freemasons took place at the Town Hall , Eastbonrne , on the 19 th inst ., when an especial meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Sussex was held for tho consecration of the Anderida Lodge , No . 2431 , and the installation of the Worshipful Master designate , Bro . \ V . E . Morrison ( Mayor of Eastbourne ) , P . M . 916 and 1110 , P . Prov . Grand Warden . Tbe Lodge waa opened by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Bro .

tho Right Hon . Sir W . T . Marriott , Q . C ., M . P ., P . G . Steward , who was supported by Bros . F . Bellingham P . M . 311 Prov . Grand Senior Warden , W . Wright P . M . 311 and 1303 , and a large number of Provincial Grand Officers Present and Past , and several Officers of Grand Lodge . Tho Lodgo having been duly opened , the hymn , " Hail , Eternal , by whose aid , " was sung , and prayer was offered

np by Bro . P . Crick Provincial Grand Chaplain . Tho Deputy Prov . Grand Master then addressed the brethren . He said that moro than five years had elapsed since a now Lodge had been consecrated in the Province . Freemasonry , as in other Provinces , had increased in Sussex , but it was not deemed advisable to consecrate new Lodges until there were good grounds for anticipating permanency in

them . Looking at the names of those brethren who had petitioned for the new Lodge , and afc fche rapid strides Eastbonrne had made in every way , the Provincial Grand Master H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , and those who were consulted upon the matter , had no hesitation in granting the warrant for tho Anderida Lodge . Tho founders of tbe new Lodge , as follow , wero arranged in order , viz . : —

Provincial Grand Chaplain delivered au address on the nature and principles of Freemasonry . After tho hymn , " How vast must their advantage be , " had been sung , and the Dedication Prayer having been given , the Lodge was duly consecrated , dedicated , and con-Btituted , the ceremony being impressively performed by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master . The hymn , " Glory to God on high , " was

sung , and on the termination of the Benediction Bro . Morrison was installed as Worshipful Master of the Lodge by Bro . Freeman Provincial Grand Secretary , who conducted the ceremony in an able and impressive manner . The charges wero given by Bros . Dawes , Wright , and Cnrrie ( Dean of Battle ) . The newly-appointed Worshipfnl Master then appointed and invested his Officers , us follow : —Bros . Adamson

I . P . M ., C . Warwick Tomes S . W ., Haine J . W ., Charles Tomes Treas ., Wright Secretary , Pidcock S . D ., Deau J . U ., Lewis Dir . of Cers ., McQueen I . G ., Easter Org ., Howard S . S ., Caffyn J . S ., Goldring Tyler . The following committee were appointed to frame the bye-laws , viz .: —tho W . M ., S . W ., J . W ., Treasnrer , Secretary , with Brother Howard and Bro . F . Lawson Lewis ; aud Bro . Howard was appointed

to serve on the Charities Committee of the Provincial Grand Lodge . Propositions for initiation and joining were received . The Lodge was then duly closed , the ceremony terminating with the hymn " 0 God , our help in ages past . " The musical arrangements were carried out under tho able direction of Bro . John Easter P . P . G . O ., an especial word of praise being also duo to Bro . W . Gill for the

admirable manner in whioh he acted as Dir . of Cors . The brethren of the newly consecrated Anderida Lodge and tho visiting brethren adjourned to the Queeu ' a Hotel , where nearly a hundred sat down to an elegant banquet , under the presidency of tho nowly-insfcalled W . M ., Bro . W . Morrison . The Chairman , iu brief and appropriate terms , proposed fche Queen and the Craft and fche M . W . fche Grand

Master H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , each of which met with a hearty reception . He then gave the Officers of Grand Lodge , Present and Past . Those brethren , he said , were worthy of the esteem of all the members of the Craft . The Lodge had been honoured by tbe presence of several memberi of Grand Lodge . He was sorry that Bro . Somerville Burney had been compelled to leave , and regretted

the unavoidable absence of Bros . T . Trollope and Ei Letchworth Grand Secretary . Ho wished particularly to thank Bros . V . P . Freeman and R . Clowes for their attendance , and was especially grateful to Brother Freeman for conducting the installation ceremony . Bro . Oswald Thompson thanked fcho W . M . for the handsome terms in which he had proposed the toast , and the

brethren for the cordial manner in which they had received it . From personal experience he could bear testimony to the personal qualities of the Earl of Lathom fche Pro Grand Master , and the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe tbe Deputy Grand Master , and to the admirable manner in wbiob they had carried out their Masonic duties . The other Grand Officers fully merited the approval bestowed upon them ,

for they had the dignity and utility of the Craft at heart . Brother Freeman alio acknowledged the toast . The W . M . proposed the M . W . the Provincial Grand Master H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , the W . Deputy Provincial Grand Master the Right Hon . Sir W . T . Marriott , Q . C ., M . P ., P . G . Steward , and the Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge Present and Past . They had hoped , he said , to have had tho pr vilege of seeing the Duke amongst them , and they heartily

wished him long life and prosperity . He ( Bro . Morrison ) was uruteful to Bro . Sir William Marriott for coming to consecrate the Lodge . Ho also spoke in kindly terms of Bros . Bellingham , Wright , Puttiek , Crick , Terry , Dawes , and Farncombe . Bro . Sir W . T . Marriott , in responding , said that with regard to His R > yal Highness the Dnke of Connaught , he did not think any Provincial Grand

Master throughout the United Kingdom took greater interest in his Province than did the Duke in thafc of Sussex . He hoped the bretb . ren would appear in a strong body to support him at the approach ing Provincial Grand Lodge . The remaining Officers all did their best for the Province . Speaking for himself , he said he had experi . enced greafc pleasure in being present at the consecration , and wos

glad to find Masonry so rapidly advancing in Sussex , for nothing conld do more good to the country . In the Lodge politics and religious discussions were forgotten , and all met for tho promotion of brotherly feeling . He was delighted to find that the Anderida Lodge was opened under such favourable auspices , thirtv members having been enrolled , and twelve or thirteen

others coming in . He congratulated them upon their highly snecessful gathering . Bro . C . W . Randolph also acknowledged the toast , and , alluding to fche Worshipful Master ' s excellent work in Arch Masonry , said ho had bestowed upon him tho highest office possible in thafc degree . He heartily wished tbe Lodgo increased prosperity . Bro . W . Dawes also replied , and said the Provincial

Grand Officers fully appreciated the kindness shown to them . The Worshipful Master then proposed fche Visitors , remarking thafc the brethren of the Lodge welcomed them heartily . The toasfc was acknowledged by Bros . Bellingham , Duke , Dale , Hart , and Abell Bro . Dawes next submitted prosperity to the Aderida Lodge . He congratulated the brethren upon the highly successful manner in

which their Lodge has been opened . He eulogised the W . M ., who in Freemasonry aud ether walks of life had ennid the esteem and affection of his fellow men . He also alluded fco fche strength imparted to the new Lodge by securing such worthy Freemasons as Bro . C . Warwick Tomes and C . H . Haine as Wardens , and believed the Anderida Lodge had a very successful future before it . The

Worshipful Master , ou rising to respond , was received with enthusiasm . He thanked Bro . Dawes for fche kind manner in which he proposed the toasfc , and said no effort on his part would be spared to make the Lodge one of great success . With the support of such able and experienced brethren as those who undertook office nnder him ho believed such success was assured . The remaining

toasts were the Masonio Benevolent Institutions , and the Tyler's toast . Dnring the evening a pleasing programme of musio was sustained ( under the direction of Bro . John Easter P . M . P . P . G . Organist ) by Bro . A . A . Oakden , Bro . J . Easter , Mr . J . T . Parsons , Mr . Charles Roper , and Mr . S . G . R . Coles , F . C . O ., Mac . Bac , the last named proving an able accompanist .

ANGEL LODGE , No . 51

THE members of this Lodge celebrated the 157 th anniversary of their Lodge , afc Colchester , on Thursday , fche 20 th inst ., and tbe proceedings passed off most successfully . The principal bnsiness of the meeting was the installation of Bro . Harold Francis S . W . as Worshipfnl Master for the ensuing year , whioh ceremony was ably performed by Bro . F . 0 . H . Jones Provincial Grand Steward , the outgoing W . M . The Officers for the year were appointed and

joining member having been proposed , and a hearty vote of thanks passed to Bro . F . 0 . H . Jones for his able rendering of the ceremony of the day , the new W . M . expressed on behalf of the members of the Lodgo their great pleasure in having been honoured by the presence of the Deputy Provincial Grand Master . Bro . F . A . Philbrick , in acknowledging the greeting , said ifc always gave him intense pleasure

to be amongst his brethren , bufc particularly those of his native town ; and one of fche greatest ; comforts to him daring fche receifc onxions time—ho might say agonising time—he had passed through had been the greafc sympathy thafc had been shown to him by the Masonio fraternity . Sympathy had beon extended fco him from alt quarters of the globe—bufc he had been , perhaps , most deeply touched

by the earnest and spontaneous kindness thafc had been evinced by the brethren of the mystic tie . At the close of the Lodge between 50 and 60 brethren dined together afc the Cups Hotel , the repast being thoroughly well served by the host and hostess , Mr . and Mrs . Brown . In the course of the evening Bro . Captain Naylor

Leyland intimated his desire to present a Worshipful Masters chair to the Lodge . Among fche Visitors present on the occasion were Bros . F . A . Philbrick , Q . ANGEL LODGE , No . 51

THE members of this Lodge celebrated the 157 th anniversary of their Lodge , afc Colchester , on Thursday , fche 20 th inst ., and tbe proceedings passed off most successfully . The principal bnsiness of the meeting was the installation of Bro . Harold Francis S . W . as Worshipfnl Master for the ensuing year , whioh ceremony was ably performed by Bro . F . 0 . H . Jones Provincial Grand Steward , the outgoing W . M . The Officers for the year were appointed and

joining member having been proposed , and a hearty vote of thanks passed to Bro . F . 0 . H . Jones for his able rendering of the ceremony of the day , the new W . M . expressed on behalf of the members of the Lodgo their great pleasure in having been honoured by the presence of the Deputy Provincial Grand Master . Bro . F . A . Philbrick , in acknowledging the greeting , said ifc always gave him intense pleasure

to be amongst his brethren , bufc particularly those of his native town ; and one of fche greatest ; comforts to him daring fche receifc onxions time—ho might say agonising time—he had passed through had been the greafc sympathy thafc had been shown to him by the Masonio fraternity . Sympathy had beon extended fco him from alt quarters of the globe—bufc he had been , perhaps , most deeply touched

by the earnest and spontaneous kindness thafc had been evinced by the brethren of the mystic tie . At the close of the Lodge between 50 and 60 brethren dined together afc the Cups Hotel , the repast being thoroughly well served by the host and hostess , Mr . and Mrs . Brown . In the course of the evening Bro . Captain Naylor

Leyland intimated his desire to present a Worshipful Masters chair to the Lodge . Among fche Visitors present on the occasion were Bros . F . A . Philbrick , Q .
