Booth was subsequently raised to the sublime degree by the W . M ., after which , there being no further business , the Lodge was closed in dne form . A novel and highly successful departure was made on this occasion , by
the presence of ladies at the sapper and social board . The experiment commenced at the October meeting last year , aud was so successful thafc ifc was determined to repeat it . The club smoke-room waa set apart for tbe reception of the fair sex , who so far appreciated the concession , by mustering in goodly numbers . When sapper was announced ready , the brethren escorted their wives and daughters fco
the dining-room , which presented an unusually cheerful aspect when fche ladies and brethren were seated . Ample justice was done to fche good things provided , the company mustering sixty-one . After sapper the usual Loyal toasts were proposed and duly honoured , the ordinary Masonio toasts were en this occasion dispensed with , with the exception of thafc of the W . M ., whioh was proposed in eulogistic
terms and heartily drank . Bro . Martin Thomas P . M . P . P . G . D . singing , by express desire , " Here ' s to hia health . " The Ladies was proposed by the Rev . Phillip Hains P . M . and Chaplain , and responded to in a mosbhnmoroua speech by Bro . Walter G . Bagnall J . W ., whofor the time being posed as a lady , acknowledging with gratitude the compliment thafc had been made by fche admission and entertainment of himself
and sisters amongst the brethren . Some exceptionally good singing and playing was much enjoyed by all present . A quartette party , consisting of those well-known executants , Bros . Martin Thomas , T . Shorrock , Maxfield , and Hinohliffe , sang some well-known glees most artistically . Mrs . Tennant , wife of Bro . Tennant , of Free Trade Hall renown , possesses a rich contralto voice , and her rendering of
" When the heart is young " was delightful . Tho Misses Hinohliffe , MaxfieJd , and Eldersbaw showed marked ability in pianoforte solos . Bro . Ward , of " Minnehaha Minstrel" fame , treated the company to a fine performance on the " bones . " Bro . Lisendou received an ovation after reciting " Over fche bills from fche poor house , " and later on , by desire , gave the sensational "Kissing Cup's Race . "

THE anniversary of this Lodge , waa celebrated on Monday , fche 10 th inst ., and proved one of the most successful and enjoyable Masonio gatherings held in Wirksworth for a good many years pasfc . Largely as a result of the personal popularity of the incoming Worshipful Master ( Bro . Doctor J . R . Fielding ) many brethren attended from Derby , Matlock , Belper , Alfreton , Bakewell and
other towns , whilst several journeyed from the neighbouring Province of Nottinghamshire to do honour to the occasion . The business of fche Lodge was transacted in fche large room of fche George Hotel . The ceremony of installing the new Master was performed by Brother Wallis P . P . G . S . W ., assisted by Brother Piper P . P . G . D .

for a comparatively brief period connected with tho fraternity , ho had endeavoured to make good 1150 of his time , and added his determination fco " pull round" the Derwent Lodge aa much aa possible . Horace Norrington S . W ., who had been previously elected , was then
proceeded with , no less than twenty-two Installed Masters constituting fche board . The ritual in this degree was also conducted by Brother White , in a most perfect manner , fche various addresses being splendidly delivered . It was also decided that the Burgoyne Lodge of Instruction should be removed to tho King ' s Arms , John Street , Bedford Row , W . O . M . lequestcil that all speeches should be as brief as possible . Thus in a few well chosen remarks Brother White gave the health of the VVorshipful Master , who thanked fche brethren for the honour conferred npon him
and hoped they would overlook all his shortcomings and give him the benefit of their assistance and experience during the ensuing year . Bro . Norrington was , however , compelled to break through his ruling in proposing the health of Bro . White I . P . M . and Installing Master , to whom he said the success of the evening was due . He had cheerfully undertaken his dnties , and whatever he had been required
to do , he had done with credit fco himself and credit to the Lodge . He concluded by presenting him with a very handsome Lodgo jewel , whioh bad been voted by tho brethren , and hoped he might long live to wear it as a memento of his very pleasant year of office . Bro . White , in reply , said thafc no formal words could express hia thanks for the great kindness be had received during his Mastership .
Most Masters said that their happiest day was when they were placed in the chair , but he considered thafc he was tbe more happy thafc day because he had come out of ifc , for he had received a very substantial recognition of their appreciation from the brethren , in tbo shape of the beautiful jewel . He was proud to think that his services had given satisfaction , and congratulated his successor on
the prosperous condition of the Lodge . The W . M . then submitted tbe toasfc of the Initiate in a few earnest words , whioh were acknowledged by Bro . Ronald , who thanked the brethren for receiving him among them , and hoped in time he wonld become a true acd good Mason . Bros . W . Drewett , J . Osborne , H . Baldwin , J . Simpson , andB . Croper responded for the Visitors . The health of the Treasurer and
Secretary was then given . Bro . Gabb , after thanking the brethren for the cordial manner in which they had drank his health , stated thafc the Lodge was in a most healthy state , and that all tbe while he waa so generously supported hia services as their Treasurer would always be afc the Lodge ' s disposal .
