The proceedings also took the form of the celebration of the majority of the Lodge , and were rendered of further interest by the attendance of the Provincial Grand Master Bro . W . W . B . Beach , M . P ., and his Officers , the usual Lodge meeting having been postponed for a day to ensure their attendance , Wednesday being the Quarterly Communication of Grand Lodge .

The ceremony attending the installation of Bro . S . Bater Crook , the S . W . of the past jear , was impressively conducted by the Provincial Grand Master . The Provincial Grand Master was heartily thanked for his

services , says the " Hampshire Independent , " and , in response , said it had given him great pleasure to attend the Clausentum Lodge , the birth of which , twenty-one years ago , he remembered perfectly well , and he was glad to know that the anticipations then formed as to its success had been so well fulfilled .

The I . P . M . was also accorded a vote of thanks , the W . M . in proposing this , saying that Brother W . Ritchie had performed the duties of the chair with brilliant success , and had given an example which might well be emulated by those who were following on .

The I . P . M ., in response , said he was proud when unanimously elected to the chair , still prouder when he was installed ; and prouder than ever now to know that he had given satisfaction to the Brethren .

Tho Visitors welcome was cordially acknowledged by the D . P . G . M ., and after the transaction of ordinary business the Lodge was closed in the usual form . The Brethren afterwards sat down to a recherche banquet , nnder the presidency of the newly-installed W . M . The repast was served by Bro . Henley , who received high commendation for his excellent catering , under the superintendence of Bro . Chapman D . C . of the Lodge .

At the after proceedings the W . M . proposed the health of the Provincial Grand Master , thanking him for the services he had rendered , and alluding to the high character he held among the Freemasons of the Province over which he had so long and ably ruled .

The toast was most enthusiastically received , and Bro . Beach , in reply , renewed his congratulations to the Clausentum Lodge upon attaining its majority so successfully , and expressed a hope that it would continue to prosper by receiving within its folds Brethren whose character and quality were beyond question . Responding for Grand Lodge Officers , the D . P . G . M . endorsed

the congratulations of the P . G . M . and , reminding the Brethren of many who were present at the consecration of the Lodge , but had now passed away , said he was rejoiced to see among them that evening the Prov . Grand Master , who was the Consecrating Officer , and Admiral Martin , who was the first Master . Prov . Grand Lodge Officers was responded to by Bro . Harfield P . G . J . W .

For the Past Masters , the response was left to Bros . Admiral Martin and R . R . L . Rosoman , who related some interesting reminiscences of the early days of the Lodge ; D . 0 . Hobbs , who incidentally mentioned that Brother Davis practically started the Lodge , and Brother Methven , who was W . M . when the Lodge was removed from its first head-quarters to the unique little building it now occupies .

AT the Rising Sun , Globe Road , E ., on the 2 nd inst ., the Lodge gave the first lecture of the season , when Brother J . J . Hall W . M . of the Burdett Coutts , No . 1278 , gave an address on " Sun Worship and the Ancient Mysteries and their resemblance to Freemasonry . " The room , which looked very nice with the new furniture and jewels , says the " East London Observer , " was crowded .

Bro . B . Stewart P . M . 1278 was W . M ., I . Goulston 3349 S . W ., J . F . Bromhead P . M . P . P . G . S . W . J . W ., Seigenberg S . D ., Romain J . D ., Kaufman I . G . Among other Brethren present could be noticed many very eminent in the Craft . The W . M ., in a few words , introduced Bro . Hall to the Brethren , and bis rising was the signal for a cordial reception .

Without much preface the lecturer explained that he would divide the subject in three . First , " Sun Worship , and its origin , " secondly , " The Mysteries of the Ancients , " and thirdly " Operative and Speculative Masonry . " Sun worship he traced to the Aryans , and showed to what a state of perfection it was carried by the Egyptians . Their temple at Amen Ra , which even now is

considered the most magnificent ruin of the ancient world , was ably described , and was demonstrated to have been constructed for the worship of the sun . The signs of the Zodiac were then traced to their origin , and a lengthened dissertation on the Tau followed , in which it was shown to have been the universal symbol of regeneration and resurrection . The lecturer told how highly civilised the

ancient Egyptians were , their standard of ethics being equal to those of the present day ; and the account of their ancient mysteries and their similarity to the Masonic ritual being listened to with rapt attention , most , if not all present , being acquainted for the first time with the very interesting and learned subject that was touched upon , the parallel drawn being perfectly conclusive , The lecture was concluded with an account of Operative Masonry ,
