NEW MUSIC .

Why must we say Good-bye ? Song . Words by Henry J . Treaciwell , music by Edith Cooke , composer of "I Dreamed a Dream , " " Shadows , " & c . Peace , Troubled Heart . Song . Written by H . L . D'Arcy Jaxone . Coinposwd by Ciro Pinsuti . London : J . B . Cramer and Co ., 201 Begenfc Street .

As its name implies , the exquisite little song which Edith Gooke hasi lately presented to the music-loving public is a love themw , and the words are so prettily woven into the music that ifc is no matter for surprise that the piece should have so readily ingratiat d itself into the good Bracks of the drawing room and the concert hall . The

tender pissiou breithing in every lino reminds us forcibly of the song which Sullivan has made immortal , and were we to call this the twinsister of "The Lost Chord , " the simifo would bo by no means inappropriate . Fond reminiscences of a . lost love , to whom a long goodbyo ha * been said , until tho looked-for reunion " In the Eternal Love , "

are entwined in soft and soothing melody , the air of which is so pleasingly pathetic that it must at once take its rank as one of tho most charming of modern morceauv . This admirable composition lias already figured amongst the pieces de resistance at mauy of our best concerts , and will , wo are a 3 sued , fi id a p laca ia the repertoire

of favourite songs in many a home circle . Mr . Treadwell has set the words to easy music , in P sharp , and the accompaniment blends most admirably with the passion 1 to memories and longings expressed by the writer . Mr . Jaxono ' s " Peace , troubled Heart , " will find many admirers amongst lovers of s icred music , the word ;) being suggestive

of holy and inspired sontimerits , which have been set to an air of symmetry and bouity b y Pinsuti . Tho n-ino o f tho composer is of itself sufficient to commend the p iece to those who would arid another ehoiort item to their collection , and on the whole it may be well and worthily recommended to those who have a special penchant for music of this particular class .
