M . was installed as Worshipful Master by Bro . Jackson P . M . P . P . G . S . B ., of Tranquillity Lodgo , Newohurob . The following Officers were invested : —Bros . Tnnks , J . P ., I . P . M ., James Lonsdale S . W ., Hindle P . M . P . P . G . S . B . J . W ., Richard Lonsdale Treasurer , Bury P . M .

Seoretary , Hoylo S . D ., Dixon J . D ., Robinson I . G ., James Lonsdale sen . Organist , Maofarlane P . M . D . C Almoner , Rnshton , J . P ., P . M . Charity Representative , and Edmundson Tyler . There was a large

gathering of the Fraternity present , including visiting brethren from Church , Clayton-le-MoorS , Clitheroe , Blackburn , Burnley and tho Rossendale Valley . A sumptuous spread was provided by ^ the hostess , Mrs . Ramsbottom .

DE GREY AND RIPON LODGE , No . 1161 , ( MANCHESTER ) . A MEETING took place on Wednesday , the 20 th instant , in the Freemasons' Hall . Owing to the death of Brother the late Duke ofClaronce the Lodge room presented a very sombre appearance , all the furniture being draped in blaok , and the brethren wearing black rosettes on their aprons . Thero were present Bros . J . R . Wilson W . M ., W . H . Anderton jun . S . W ., B . Carr P . M . acting J . W ., J . M .

Moss P . M . Seoretary , L . Forknell S . D ., Loebell J . D ., Ellwood I . G . P . M . ' s Burgess , Dottie , Gleave , Cowen , Hirst , Lewis , Ehlinger , Arensbergh P . P . G . P . and Lawton . The Lodge was opened at seven o'olook , and the minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed . The ballot was taken for Mr . William Stoddart , who was eleoted to

beoome a member of the Lodge , and afterwards initiated into Freemasonry by the W . M . Bro . Wilson . The working tools were presented and explained by the S . W ., and the E . A . charge delivered in an impressive manner by Bro . Fortnell . Prior to the Lodge closing the W . M . referred in feeling terms to the loss their Grand

Master and the Craft had sustained by the death of the Duke of Clarence , and expressed the deepest sympathy for his Royal parents in their bereavement . He proposed that a letter of condolence be sent to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales M . W . G . M . Bro . Arensbergh seconded the proposition , which was carried

unanimously , after which the Lodge was closed . At the social board all the toasts were drank in silence , the singing , & c , being entirely dispensed with . Tho W . M . impressed upon the brethren the desira bility of attending the Conversazione to bo held on the third Wed . nesday in February , in the Freemasons' Hall , anticipating an enjoy , able ovening .

Hamilton 1345 , Richardson 1476 ,

Tho Lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the previous meeting read aud confirmed . The installation ceremony WOB then proceeded with , tho Installing Master being Bro . R . H . Williams P . M . Worsley Lodge and P . P . G . S . B . ( one of the survivors of the Balaclava charge ) .

After the usual preliminaries , the W . M . elect ( Bro . Colbert ) was presented to the Installing Master by Bro . Shepherd , and inducted into the chair of K . S . with all due rite aud ceremony . Subsequently the newl y-installed W . M . was proclaimed to , and saluted by the M . M . ' s on their re-admiaaion to the Lodge . The Installing Master addressed and invested the following brethren Officers for tho year ,

M . Prior to closing the Lodge a P . M . 's jewel was presented to Bro .

Shepherd for hi 3 appreciated services a 3 W . M . during the past year . There being no further business hearty good wishes were expressed by tho visiting brethren , and tho Lodge was closed in peaoe and harmony . The brethren affterwards colobrated the Festival of St . John at a banquet , and the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured , including the toast of the evening , the W . M ., which was heartily drank and responded to .

Bradsbaw S . D ., Wilkinson J . D ., Schofield I . G ., Mamelok P . M ., and several other brethren and visitors . The Lodge waa opened in due form and aftor the usual preliminaries Bros . Kent , Savage , Pilling , Tuatain , and Bowden , being candidates for the third degree , were interrogated as to their proficiency in the second , aud having

answered withdrew . They wero subsequently raised to the sublime degree of M . M ., Bros . Kent and Savage by Bro . Mamelok P . M ., Pilling by Bro . Schofield P . M . P . P . G . Major-General Montagu as Worshipful Master of this Lodge took place at the last ordinary meeting , in the Lodge room of the Publio Hall , Cleverdon . M . of tho Lodge for the ensuing year . There was a capital master of members , while Visitors were present from Middlesbrough , Darlington , Stockton , Thirsk , Durham , and other Lodges . The ceremony of installation was most impressively

As Freemasons and loyal snbjeots every member of the Craft most mourn the loss of His Royal Highness Prince Albert Victor , Duke of Clarence and Avondale . In his Royal Family circle the IOBS , we are assured , has cansed prostration and sincere grief . To the nation the death is regarded as a great calamity , and in Masonio ciroles the re » ret and sorrow are of the keenest and truest kind . H . R . H . was

not only a Prince of great promise , but was equally promising as a Freemason . The Fraternity in Scotland were proposing to mark its appreciation of his merits aa a member of the Craft in his proposed marriage with Princess Victoria Mary of Teck , which was fixed to take place on 27 th February , but instead of the expected rejoicing we are humbled in sackcloth and ashes by the sad intelligence of the

Prince ' s death . On Friday , the 8 th of this month , he engaged in a quiet family celebration in honour of his 28 th birthday . On the following Monday it was made public that he was seriously ill , and three days later he succumbed to a complication of influenza and pneumonia . Theoircumstancesof our Royal brother ' s death and all

that it involves have been toM and retold in public print . In every assembly of Masons since last Thursday tho loss has boon referred to . I have been present at several of these , and have been deoply impressed with the sincere feelings of regret and sorrow which have been manifested—no hollow seutiment , but deep rooted and heartfelt sorrow . —Glasgow Eccnina News .

ANCHOR LODGE , No . 1839 . THE members hold their installation and banquet in the Masonio Hall , at Northallerton , on Tuesday , the 12 th inst ., when Brother Ward was installed W . M . of tho Lodge for the ensuing year . There was a capital master of members , while Visitors were present from Middlesbrough , Darlington , Stockton , Thirsk , Durham , and other Lodges . The ceremony of installation was most impressively

As Freemasons and loyal snbjeots every member of the Craft most mourn the loss of His Royal Highness Prince Albert Victor , Duke of Clarence and Avondale . In his Royal Family circle the IOBS , we are assured , has cansed prostration and sincere grief . To the nation the death is regarded as a great calamity , and in Masonio ciroles the re » ret and sorrow are of the keenest and truest kind . H . R . H . was

not only a Prince of great promise , but was equally promising as a Freemason . The Fraternity in Scotland were proposing to mark its appreciation of his merits aa a member of the Craft in his proposed marriage with Princess Victoria Mary of Teck , which was fixed to take place on 27 th February , but instead of the expected rejoicing we are humbled in sackcloth and ashes by the sad intelligence of the

Prince ' s death . On Friday , the 8 th of this month , he engaged in a quiet family celebration in honour of his 28 th birthday . On the following Monday it was made public that he was seriously ill , and three days later he succumbed to a complication of influenza and pneumonia .
