PROV . GRAND LODGE OF DURHAM .

A SPECIAL meeting was beld , on the 21 st inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Durham , to adopt an address of condolence to tho Princo of Wales on the death of the Dnke of Clarence . Tbe Lodge room was draped in crape , and the brethren wore crapo rosettes upon tbeir regalin .

There was a very large attendance of members of the Craft . The Provincial Grand Master ( Bro . Sir Hedworth Williamson , Bart ., of Whitburn ) presided over tbe Lodgo , and in the absence , through illness , of the Deputy Prov . G . M . ( Bro . tho Rev . Canon Tristram ) , Bro . Babington

Boulton officiated in his stead . The other Officers of the Grand Lodge who were present were Bros . C . H . Backhouse S . W ., R . H . Yeld J . W ., Rev . W . Bowker Chaplain , J . R . Cutter Treasnrer , J . D . Marshall Registrar , R . Hudson Seorotary , J . R . Pattison Assist . Secretary , J . G .

Marshall S . D ., A . Peters J . D ., G . S . Shaw A . D . of C , G . Wanloss S . B ., T . Henderson Standard Bearor , jind T . Grieve Tyler . The Provincial Grand Lodge having been opened in due form .

Bro . Sir Hedworth Williamson expressed his sadness at the circumstances under which they were met . He referred with satisfaction to the largo attendance , notwithstanding that so many brethren were suffering from illness .

They all deeply regretted the absence of Canon Tristram . He then proceeded to move that an address of condolence be passed , aud be signed on behalf of tbe Provincial Grand Lodge . Sir Hedworth , who spoke under feelings of deep emotion , then moved the following address :

To His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales , K . G ., Most Worshipfn Grand Master of England , & o . ' SIR , —We , the undersigned , by request and on behalf of the Fre * and Accepted Masous of tbe Province of Durham , in Grand Lodgn duly assembled , humbly approach your Royal Highness , requestin"

you to receive from us the assurance of our deepest sympathy wit your Royal Highness , her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales , an ^ all the other members of your Royal Family , in the great affliction whioh yon are at present suffering . In his Royal Highness the Dak " of Clarence and Avondale , you , Sir , and your august family mourn

tbe loss of an affectionate member , the country a beloved Prince , and the Masons of England a true and worthy brother . That it may please the Great Architect of the Universe to preserve , strengthen , and support you and yonrB in this your great affliction , is the sincerest prayer of your Royal Highness's most loyal aud devoted servants , the Freemasons of the Province of Durham .
