The round of successful Masonic balls continues in different parts of the country . The two Lodges of Chesterfield arranged a joint gathering for Wednesday , and a brilliant success was achieved , tbe company numbering close on 200 . The brilliancy

of the scene in the ball room was perhaps marred to a slight extent , says the " Sheffield Independent , " by reason of an order issued from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Derbyshire that no regalia should be worn at any such function .

THE Vegetarian Society , which was founded in 1847 , has now entered upon its fiftieth year , and will celebrate its Jubilee in the spring and autumn of the present one . The Society desires to mark its fiftieth year by a wide dissemination of what science and ethics have to teach concerning the best diet for man , and for this purpose tbe Jubilee Fund is being

organised . Contributions may be sent either to the Treasurer of the Vegetarian Society ( 9 Peter Street , Manchester ) , or the Vegetarian Federal Union , Memorial Hall , Farringdon Street , London . The Secretary will be glad to forward free to anyone sending his or her address , some of the publications in which the vegetarian question is practically discussed ,
