REPORTS OF MEETINGS .

We shall be pleased to receive particulars of Masonic meetings for insertion in our columns , and where desired will endeavour to send a representative to report Lodge or other proceedings .

GRAFT-: METEOPOLITAN

WESTBOURNE LODGE , No . 733 . . A N emergency meeting of this powerful Lodge was held at the Holborn Restaurant , on Thursday , 21 st inst ., under the presidency of Bro . Wm . Morton Roberts W . BI ., who was most ably assisted by the following Officers

Bro . G . Brown S . W ., F . Wortham J . W ., John Welford P . M . Treas ., Robert John Rogers P . M . acting Sec , Geo . Weaver S . D ., 0 . E . Lilly J . D ., W . Busby I . G ., J . Ellis P . M . T ^ ler . Thero were also present Bros . J . W . Curtis P . M ., J . Shapcott , Beasley , Thomas , 0 . Halston , G . Wall , G . Goddard , A . Clark , 0 . T . Mead , and several others .

The Lodge was opened in due form and Bro . G . Wall was examined and entrusted . The Lodge was opened in the second degree , and the samo Brother was passed as a Fellow Craft . The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and Messrs . Clark and Mead were introduced and regularly initiated into the mysteries of ancient Freemasonry . Both ceremonies were perfectly and impressively given . After a few more transactions the Lodge was closed and the Brethren partook of a nice little repast .

BARNATO LODGE , No . 2265 . THE annual installation festival of this Lodgo took place on Monday , 18 th inst ., at Monico's Restaurant , Picadilly , W ., with great success . Bro . Carl Vandyk W . The Lodge was regularly opened by Bro . Vandyk , and the minutes of the meetings on 19 th October and 23 rd November 1896 were read and confirmed . Bro . James Bookbinder , " of the Lodge La Perseverante Amitie , Paris , was admitted as a joining member . Mr . Eugene Corri was balloted for ancl approved as a candidate for initiation at the next meeting .

The principal business was the installation of Bro . Lewis Samson Genese , who was thereupon presented by Bro . P . M . Hogard , and signified his assent to the ancient charges and regulations . A Board o £ Installed Masters was formed and Bro . Genese was duly placed in the chair of K . S . according to ancient custom by his predecessor in office .

Having been formally proclaimed and saluted the new Master proceeded to invest his Officers for the ensuing year , viz ., Bros . J . D . Phillips S . W ., H . Townend J . W ., C . F . Hogard re-elected Treasurer , E . J , Acworth P . M . Sec , H . Raphael S . D ., J . L . Goldstein J . D ., W . Wright P . P . G . O . Middx . Organist , R . Lush I . G ., H . J . Barnato , M . Hyman Stewards , R . Morley Tyler .

Certain alterations in the Bye-Laws , with reference to the dates of meeting , were agreed to , and a sum . of twenty guineas was voted by the Lodge as a nucleus towards a fund for presenting Bro . E . J . Acworth P . M . with a testimonial for his services as Secretary to the Lodge . A further sum of ten guineas was granted to the W . M . to head his list as Steward for the Boys School . Four candidates were proposed , to be approved at the next meeting , and the closing hymn brought the proceedings to a pleasant termination .

The Brethren then proceeded to the handsome Egyptian Room , when a superb banquet was served and a most enjoyable evening followed . It must be stated , to prevent misconception , that a Past Master ' s jewel was presented to Bro . Vandyk upon the completion of his term of office last October , the Brother who was elected to succeed him being unable on account of ill health to take over the duties of Mastership .

Bro . Lewis Samson Genese , the newly installed Master of the Barnato Lodge , was born in Loudon in the year 1867 , and was initiated into the Craft only five years ago , so that his rise has been rapid . He has , however , been a good attendant at the Lodge of Instruction , and is quite conversant with the ritual . ¦ .

DUKE OF FIFE LODGE , No . 2345 . rriHE 40 th regular meeting was held on Wednesday , 20 th inst ., at the I Alexandra Hotel , Clapham Common , when there were present Bros . Charlie Woods W . M ., J . Langdon I . P . M ., S . Cochrane P . M . P . G . Treas ., W . W . Westley P . M . D . C , J . W . Folkard P . M . Sec , E . Beaven P . M ., A .

Harvey P . M ., J . Mitchell P . M . S . W ., T . Morris J . W ., R . Steele P . M . Treas ., A . Robertson S . D ., G . F . Winny J . D ., Hearsey Steward , C . Fitch Steward , C . Patrick P . M . Bro Kidman was raised . Ballot was taken for Mr . A . Stanley , and , proving unanimously in his favour , he was duly initiated into tho mysteries of the Craft . Other important Blasonic business was transacted . After the Lodge was closed the Brethren dined under the presidency of the W . M ., who proposed the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts , Bro . S , Cochrane responding for the Graud Officers .

Bro . J . Langdon proposed the W . M ., and Bro . Woods , in reply , said that as W . M . of the Lodge , representing one who was " not for an age , but for all time" it was his duty "to urge others by equal steps to rise . " He should try to do this in the future as in the past . The W . M . proposed the initiate , pointing out the high ideal of life that Masons were expected to have , and urging upon all thc necessity of acting up to that ideal . They welcomed Bro . Stanley with all a Brother ' s love , Bro , Stanley replied .

Reports Of Meetings.

In proposing the Visitor , the W . M . alluded to the high respect in which Bro . Churcher was held by all who knew his public , Masonic , and private life . Bro . Churcher , in response , said that ho could well appreciate their kindness , and that he had spent a most instructive , happy , aud interesting evening . He trusted that he should visit the Lodge again .

Of the Past Masters , all of whom were present , the Master said that as " stars teach as well as shine , " so their Past Masters , who shone so brilliantly , continually aided and instructed them . Bro . Langdon and Westley responded . The W . M . proposed the Treasurer and Secretary , and also the Officers , who duly responded .

The evening closed with the Tyler ' s toast , all having spent a merry time , which had been enlivened by vocal and instrumental music under the direction of Bro . Winny .

The Lodge being opened Bro . Busby was examined , entrusted , and the ceremony of passing was rehearsed , he acting as candidate . The Lodge was called off and on . The W . M . having re-occupied the chair , the Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Knight P . M . candidate . After this the W . M . gave the charge . It was

proposed by Bro . R . J . Rogers P . M ., seconded by Bro . G . D . Mogford I . P . M ., and unanimously agreed to , that a hearty vote of thanks be recorded on the ' minutes for the excellent and faultless manner in which the W . M . had discharged the duties in the chair for the first time , which was suitably responded to .

The S . W . Bro . Miller was elected W . M . for next meeting , and the Lodge was closed .

NEW CONCORD LODGE , No . 813 . ON Wednesday , 27 th inst ., at Bro . D . G . Witte's , the Farleigh Hotel , Amhurst Road , N ., Bro . W . J . Ball W . M ., Gush P . M . Preceptor , Powell P . M . Treasurer , Heslop Secretary , Jackson , Bescoby , Gaskin , Von Holtorp , Fitch , Setchell , Johnson , Friedlander , Witte , and other Brethren . The ceremony of raising was rehearsed , and the 2 nd section of the 3 rd lecture worked .

The election of Officers for the ensuing year took place , the following being appointed : —Bro . Gush P . M . Preceptor , Bro . Powell P . M . Treasurer . Bro . T . Matthews 1685 , a young but very enthusiastic member of the Craft , was elected Secretary in place of Bro . Heslop , whose resignation was accepted with much regret by the Brethren . We understand it is on account of business engagements that necessitated Bro . Heslop retiring from the office of Secretary , which he has so ably filled .

EARL OF CARNARVON LODGE , No . 1642 . AT the Elgin Hotel , Notting Hill , W ., on Friday , 15 th inst ., Bro . W . H . Handover W . M ., A . R . Finoh S . W-, W . R . Flack J . W ., G . Davis P . M . Preceptor , W . J . Mason P . M . Sec , E . Rogers P . M . Treas ., H . Harris S . D ., L . W . Westwood J . D ., H . Hatton I . G ., G . A . Knight P . M ., J . Lamb , S . Atkin P . M ., W . A . The W . M . rehearsed the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Allen representing the candidate . Bro . Lamb was examined and entrusted , after which the W . M . vacated the chair in favour of Bro . Knight P . M ., who opened the Lodge in the second degree and rehearsed the ceremony of passing . The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and this being the annual

election night Past Masters Mason , Rogers and Davis were unanimously reelection to the office of Secretary , Treasurer and Preceptor respectively . It was decided a word of thanks should be recorded on the minutes for the able assistance those three Brethren had rendered the Lodge during the past year , which compliment they briefly acknowledged .

There vvas also an election of Committee of the Benevolent Fund , which resulted as follows : —Bros . G . Davis P . M . ( President ) , E . Rogers P . M . ( Vice-President ) , W . J . Mason P . M . ROYAL KENT LODGE OF ANTIQUITY , No . 20 . rf THE 174 th annual festival of this ancient Lodge took place on the 20 th I inst ., at the Sun Hotel , Chatham , when Bro . A . ANTIQUITY LODGE , No . 178 . ON Wednesday , 20 th inst ., the members celebrated the festival of St . John , at the Masonic Hall , King Street , Wigan , when Bro . Richard Christopher S . W . was installed W . BI . by Bro . John Pearce W . M . Bro . J . Phillips P . BI . presented to the Lodge , on behalf of the members , an enlarged photograph of Bro . Holmes P . BI ., as a mark of the esteem in which he was held by the Brethren .

The retiring W . M . Bro . Pearce was made the recipient of a Past Blaster ' s jewel , which had been subscribed for by thc Brethren of the Lodge , the new W . BI . making the presentation . Tbe customary banquet followed at the Assembly Rooms of the

Matthews 1685 , a young but very enthusiastic member of the Craft , was elected Secretary in place of Bro . Heslop , whose resignation was accepted with much regret by the Brethren . We understand it is on account of business engagements that necessitated Bro . Heslop retiring from the office of Secretary , which he has so ably filled .

The W . M . rehearsed the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Allen representing the candidate . Bro . Lamb was examined and entrusted , after which the W . M . vacated the chair in favour of Bro . Knight P . M ., who opened the Lodge in the second degree and rehearsed the ceremony of passing . The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and this being the annual

election night Past Masters Mason , Rogers and Davis were unanimously reelection to the office of Secretary , Treasurer and Preceptor respectively . It was decided a word of thanks should be recorded on the minutes for the able assistance those three Brethren had rendered the Lodge during the past year , which compliment they briefly acknowledged .

There vvas also an election of Committee of the Benevolent Fund , which resulted as follows : —Bros . G . Davis P . M . ( President ) , E . Rogers P . M . ( Vice-President ) , W . J . Mason P . M . ( Treas . ) , Flack , Finch , W . Handover , Chandler P . M ., W . P . Hatton and H . Foskett P . M . Bro . Finch was unanimously elected Worshipful Master for next meeting .

ANTIQUITY LODGE , No . 178 . ON Wednesday , 20 th inst ., the members celebrated the festival of St . John , at the Masonic Hall , King Street , Wigan , when Bro . Richard Christopher S . W . was installed W . BI . by Bro . John Pearce W . M . Bro . J . Phillips P . BI . presented to the Lodge , on behalf of the members , an enlarged photograph of Bro . Holmes P . BI ., as a mark of the esteem in which he was held by the Brethren .
