Reports Of Meetings.

After the toast of the King by the Chairman , and the National Anthem by Bro . G . A . Knight P . M ., Bro . A . E , W . MacCamley I . P . M . in very happy terms proposed the toast of Bro . Barber W . M ., suggesting that those who had not the good fortune of knowing the many good qualities / possessed by the subject of his remarks could not do better than become members of the Royal Commemoration Lodge .

The ladies could persuade their husbands , brothers , and sweethearts to do likewise ; and by that / means they could also become better acquainted with Bro . Barber who , apart from his ability as a presiding genius on occasions of that kind , was indeed a tower of strength at their Lodge meetings . As a very excellent programme of music had been arranged it was the order of the evening that brevity should be the soul of wit in reference to the speeches .

Bro . Barber returned thanks for the kindly terms in which Bro . MacCamley had referred to his small services , and for the cordial reception that had been given to the toast of his health . Before resuming his seat he intimated that he had a very pleasant duty to perform , in asking the members of the Lodge to accept a very handsome banner , for use at their meetings , designed by their worthy and highly esteemed Secretary Bro . J . W . Robinson P . M ., and painted by his amiable daughter Miss Robinson .

•After thanking the Brethren for having accepted the banner Bro . Robinson proposed the toast of the Ladies , which was responded to by Bro . W . C . Wigley P . Robinson P . M ., founder , and Secretary , who himself held the position of second W . M . as far back as 1877 , and his present position from 18 7 6 to 188 9 , and 18 94 up to the present time . The book is tastefully arranged , bearing on the front a miniature of the Past Master ' s jewel , which was made from a design by Bro . Robinson when the first W . M . left the chair . Inside are excellent photographs of the present Officers

Frederick John Gayer was examined . Having answered the usual questions without the slightest assistance he was entrusted . The Lodge was further advanced , and in due course that Brother was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason . The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and Bros . A . J . Croft and W . W . Nightingale were examined and entrusted . Lodge was opened in the second degree , and those Brethren were passed Fellow Craft .

The Lodge was again resumed to the first degree and the ballot was taken for Messrs . Cecil Mangen and Louis Ivan Wiedemann , and proved unanimous in their . favour . In due course those gentlemen had the honour of participating in the mysteries of the Craft . The election of Worshipful Master , Treasurer , and Tyler was next proceeded with , and it was with the greatest of pleasure we heard

that our esteemed friend Bro . R . M . Crompton had received the unanimous vote of the Lodge for the dignity of W orshipful Master of the Henry Muggeridge Lodge for the ensuing year . The announcement from the worthy W . M . was most heartily received . Bro . Crompton in a few well chosen words thanked the W . M . and Brethren for having elected him . Bro . Alfred Sack P . M . was unanimously re-elected Treasurer , and Bro . J . Rawles Tyler .

It was proposed by Bro . A . Sack P . M . that the usual gold jewel and Past Master's collar and jewel be presented to Bro . T . F . Strutt on his retiring from Office on the first Saturday in June ; also that a donation of , £ 10 10 s be given to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution out of the Lodge funds , and placed on the W . M . ' s list . Both propositions were agreed to .

The W . M ., on rising , was most heartily received , and thanked the Brethren for having voted him a Past Master ' s jewel and collar . Five new members were proposed as candidates for initiation and various communications having been dealt with the Lodge was closed , and the Brethren retired to partake of an excellent repast , after which the W . M . gave the loyal toast of the King , coupled with the Craft ; followed by that of the Duke of Connaught and the Grand Officers present and past .

Bro . Boyce P . M . Sec . in brief terms proposed the health of the W . M ., and Bro . Strutt was most heartily received on rising to respond . Bro . Strutt said he felt the kindness of the Brethren very much indeed , and if he had given them satisfaction he was indeed well ¦ rewarded for the efforts he had put forth . He had tried to succeed , and he and his Officers had worked hard in the endeavour to bring the

Lodge into a flourishing condition . He also particularly thanked the Lodge for the amount put upon his list . He proposed to also act as a Steward for the Boys School , and hoped to collect a good round sum for that Institution . He was happv to say the Lod ge could well afford the grant made , as it was in a really flourishing condition . Again he sincerely thanked them .

The toast of the Initiates was next given , the W . M . giving them a hearty welcome , as he felt he had admitted two gentlemen who would become a credit to the Lodge . Bro . Cecil Mangen considered he need hardly say he felt highly honoured in having been elected a member of the Lodge . He hoped that in time to come he should give proof of his sinceritv .

Bro . Louis Ivan Wiedemann thanked the Master for having initiated him . The ceremony was indeed a verv impressive one . He would do his best to become a credit to the Lodg-e . He felt that what he had done was the right thing , and that Freemasonry was now impressed upon his heart . He had been delighted with the beautiful working and hoped to be able in the future to give proof of his devotion to the Order .

The visitors toast was next given , the guests being heartily welcomed . They had the pleasure of several distinguished Masons among them that evening , including Bro . Wurm , the great musician . The toast was most cordially received by the members . •Bro . T . H . Challis P . P . G . D . C . said he was delighted to respond as a visitor . The music and Masonic working had been glorious . The

great thing in a Lodge was to have initiates ; the W . M . had admitted two gentlemen that evening , and by the great attention they had paid to the ceremony he felt sure they would become additional ornaments to the Lodge . He was also pleased that five more gentlemen were proposed , and wished the Lodge continued prosperity . He thanked the W . M . and Brethren for their very kind reception .

Bro . Busbridge I . P . M . 1829 said there was a Brother present that night who was a " Grand " Master , and if Bro . Henry Muggeridge had been present to witness the working he was sure that Brother would have congratulated Bro . Strutt on his performances . His opinion was that the Henry Muggeridge Lodge was excellent .

Bro . Hughes P . M . Lion and Lamb Lodge was particularly pleased in being there as the Lodge had been formed and named in honour of a very dear and respected member of his Mother Lodge , Bro . H . Muggeridge , who was first shown Masonic light in the year 1 S 39 . He was installed W . M . in the year 18 . 1 c during his Mastership . He had seen fifty-five years in the Masonic world , of which he had made

himself a shining light ; his splendid services were recognised on several occasions , notably by the presentation of a piece of silver plate , and a purse of . £ 150 ; later on the Brethren , to show their love again presented him with a handsome testimonial and a purse of , £ 300 . A very worthy Brother and pillar of strength in the Craft Bro . George Kenning was largely instrumental in bringing to the notice of the Brethren the splendid services of their worthy founder and first Master ,

and he also was most generous towards him , recognising what a splendid Mason he was . He could only think how delighted Bro . Muggeridge would be if he was alive to see the magnificent manner in which the ceremonies had been worked that evening ; also the very happv manner in which the Brethren have enjoyed the galaxy of talent brought together to give pleasure to the company . He could not conclude without thanking his esteemed friend Bro . Croft for his

invitation . Bros . Dr . Piesse , W . Drew , and other visitors also responded . The W . M ., in submitting the toast of the Past Masters , said it was
