After- preliminaries , the third degree was rehearsed , Bro . Chant candidate .

The Lodge was then resumed , and Bro . Cull worked the sixth section of tho first lecture . Bro . Yeomans now took the chair , and Bro . Hunter was presented as W . M . elect , and the ceremony of installation was ably rehearsed by Bro . Yeomans . Bro . Mendelsohn was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing week . Bro . R . P . Forge , of the Beadon Lodgo 619 , was elected a member . Lodge waa then closed .

Blamiers P . M ., also Bro . Beer W . M ., and Bros . Vantier , Widgory , & c . Tho Lodgo was regularly opened , and the minntes of last Lodgo of Instruction read and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Widgery as candidate . The Lodge was opened in tho second and third degrees , and regularly closed .

Metropolitan Lodge of Instruction , No . 1507 . —Hold its regular meeting afc the Metropolitan Club , King's Cross , on Tnesday , the 26 th instant . Bros . J . W . Smith W . M ., Peardon S . W ., Fenner J . W ., Edmonds S . D ., Dimsdale J . D ., Solomon I . G . ; also Bros . Beattie , Pawley , and others . Preliminaries were duly observed , and the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Edmonds candidate . Bro . Fenner worked the 1 st section of the lecture . Lodge was

advanced a degree , Bro . Pawley gave proof of his efficiency , and was entrusted . Tho Lodge being advanced , the ceremony of raising was rehearsed , Bro . Pawley acting as candidate . Both ceremonies were very ably performed . Lodge was closed to the 1 st degree , and Bro . Fenner worked the 2 nd section of the lecture , after which Lodge was closed and adjourned . Lodge was opened , and the minutes of last meeting wero read and confirmed . Bro . Matthew Henry Trill , a candidate for the third degree , was examined , entrusted , and duly raised . Lodge closed to first degree . Mr . John

Wesley Walker and Mr . Robert Clifton Davy were ballotted for , approved , and initiated , the ceremonies being admirably performed by the W . M . Mr . Arthur Cooper was proposed as a candidate for initiation at the next meeting . Series of laws passed at last Lodge for the establishment of a Benevolent Fund were confirmed . Lodge then closed in harmony , and the brethren adjourned to the Bell Hotel for refreshment .

Eboracum Lodge , No . 1611 . —An emergency meeting of this Lodge was held on Monday evening , the W . M . Brother J . S . Cumberland presiding , for the purpose of raising Bro . Oldfield Marshall to the sublime degree of a Master Mason . After the con - clusion of the ceremony Bro . W . P . Husband presented to the Lod ge a very scarce engraving , of great Masonic interest , being a portrait

of Sir W . Hawksworth , Bart ., Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of All England afc York in 1711 . A similar portrait is in the possession of the York Lodge , No . 236 . Bro . T . Humphries also presented two beautiful framed photographs of views in Vienna . Both brethren received the hearfcy thanks of the Lodge , which ia rapidly acquiring a most valuable collection of Masonic relics , thanks to the hearty

spirit of co-operation which exists among its members . A large portion of tho evening was taken up by discussions on the arrangements for the Provincial Grand Lodge Meeting . In doing so ho referred to the eminent qnalities displayed by that Brother in all he undertook , and spoke of his deep interest in tho welfare of fche West Middlesex Lodge and the prosperity of its members . Ho was assured thafc Bro . Beasley , amid his numerous engagements , would always find opportunities of meeting

the brethren , and trusted the Lodge for many years might havo tho benefit of his counsel and advice . Bro . Beasley would not lose a minute in replying to tho kind remarks of Bro . Tucker . Truly he had striven to do something for tho West Middlesex Lodge , and if , afc any time , he could render assistance , the members might rely on his doing so readily . He regretted thafc lately he had

nofc been able to bo with them so frequently afc their Lodge of Instruction as he could have wished , bnt of this ho might speak with intense gratification , wherever ho went he came across brethren who had been initiated by him , and he invariably heard fche West Middlesex Lodgo and its members spoken well of . After a capital song by Bro . Wells , Bro . Beasley said there was a toasfc thafc

demanded attention . All Lodges might be said to havo to pass through a dormant stage—a stage thafc was represented by the period during which tlio outgoing Master and tho Master elect were in their relative positions . Our esteemed brother then referred to tho happy period of Mastership Bro . Kingston had passed through , and then referred to Bro . Kasner , tho W . M . elect , who

possessed all the qualities requisite for tho important office he has been elected to . Bro . Beasley was suro all regretted their absence , but in proposing " Success to the Mother Lodge , " ho felt he should bo neglecting his duty did he nofc associate their names with tho toasfc . In proposing the health of Bro . Tucker , the Preceptor and Treasurer of the Lodgo of Instruction , tho W . M . referred to the

great interest ; that brother took in all Masonic matters . Tho brethren present would agree witti him thafc Bro . Tucker deserved the heartiest thanks of all for his indefatigable exertions . After a song by Bro . J . J . Clarke , Bro . Tucker rose . He was intensely gratified at the kind way in which the W . M . had referred to him . They had received great assistance from members of

neighbouring Lodges , with whom there existed an earnest ; desire to advance the cause they all had in view . During the year nil the ceremonies of Craft Masonry had been carefully rehearsed , and they had had the assistance of competent brethren . He hoped in the future their meetings would pass off with the same haopy result , and that ho might long he associated in the conduct

of the business . One of the most prominent of the remaining toasts was thafc of the W . M . elect of the Royal Alfred Lodge . Bro . Beasley spoke in eulogistic terms of Bro . Gomm , and felfc assured that all concurred in tho hope that he mi ght have a happy and prosperous year . The toasfc of the Visitors was given and duly replied to , and the acting Officers received a duo meed of praise . Then tho W . M . gave the closing toasfc . The evening passed

off most agreeably ; the genial Bro . Gunner gavo two or three of his songs , and other of the brethren rendered goodly help , notably we may refer to Bro . Coop ' s " Familiar Faces . " We had almost omitted to mention thafc the appeal of a distressed brother was brought forward discussed , and relief given— £ 2 was voted from Lodgo funds , and this amount was supplemented by tho brethren , who amongst them subscribed an additional £ 2 2 s Gd .

JAMAICA .

THE half-yearly communication of the District Grand Lodge of East Jamaica was held at Friendly Hall , Kingston , on the 21 th of July , presided over by the Right Worshipful Altamonfc De Cordova , Deputy District Grand Master , who was supported by his Officers . Tho several Lodges in the district were represented by their Masters and Wardens . The District Grand Master was unable to attend , through sickness .

Phcenix Lodge , No . 914 , Port Royal . —A Lodge of Emergency was held on the 5 th of August , at five p . m ., presided over by the Worshipful L . C . Hollar I . P . M ., and other officers , when two brethren were passed to the second degree . Afc seven p . m . the ordinary meeting was hold , presided over by Worshipful G . P . Myers

Master , J . Tyndall S . W ., W . B . Hanna J . W ., and other Officers . This being the Annual Festival for the installing of Master and Officers , Bro . Dr . J . Tyndall was duly presented , and a Board of Installed Masters opened , when Bro . J . Tyndall , R . N ., surgeon of the Naval Hospital , was duly installed Master by Worshipful G . P . Myers , in a

manner that well merited the encomiums passed on him . The Worshipful John Tyndall then invested the following brethren to fill the offices for the year : —Bros . Lieut . M . C H . Hastings S . W ., J . Feesy J . W ., E . Anderson Treasurer , A . Dnffns Secretary , W . Organ S . D ., M . H . Smythe J . D ., J . Wenman I . G ., W . B . Hanna Tyler . Tho

following Past Masters were present , also a goodly number of Visitors from tho sister Lodges : —Bros . Langley P . G . S . W . " Royal , " Mudon "Sussex , " Paine "St . John ' s , " Dias P . G . Secretary of Scotland Glenlyon , Tait Sussex , J . Alvarenga , D . Earned , II . J . Earned , and L . C Hollar , Phcenix , A . H . Jones P . G . O . This is the first year since

tho formation of this Lodge that the officers installed are all belonging to the Navy , and the reason assigned is , that a good many of the members belong to that Service . The banquet-room was gaily decorated , the brethren having enjoyed the good things of this life , the usual Masonic and Loyal toasts wore proposed and heartily responded to .

Deep regret was felt at tlio absence of the District Grand Master for East Jamaica ( Right Worshipful Hon . Dr . Hamilton ) , caused by indisposition . The brethreu retired at the small hours in the morning , when H . M . Dockyard steam launch conveyed the Kingston brethren to their destination . " We had almost omitted to mention thafc the appeal of a distressed brother was brought forward discussed , and relief given— £ 2 was voted from Lodgo funds , and this amount was supplemented by tho brethren , who amongst them subscribed an additional £ 2 2 s Gd .

JAMAICA .

THE half-yearly communication of the District Grand Lodge of East Jamaica was held at Friendly Hall , Kingston , on the 21 th of July , presided over by the Right Worshipful Altamonfc De Cordova , Deputy District Grand Master , who was supported by his Officers . Tho several Lodges in the district were represented by their Masters and Wardens . The District Grand Master was unable to attend , through sickness .

Phcenix Lodge , No . 914 , Port Royal . —A Lodge of Emergency was held on the 5 th of August , at five p . m ., presided over by the Worshipful L . C . Hollar I . P . M ., and other officers , when two brethren were passed to the second degree . Afc seven p . m . the ordinary meeting was hold , presided over by Worshipful G . P . Myers

Master , J . Tyndall S . W ., W . B . Hanna J . W ., and other Officers . This being the Annual Festival for the installing of Master and Officers , Bro . Dr . J . Tyndall was duly presented , and a Board of Installed Masters opened , when Bro . J . Tyndall , R . N ., surgeon of the Naval Hospital , was duly installed Master by Worshipful G . P . Myers , in a

manner that well merited the encomiums passed on him . The Worshipful John Tyndall then invested the following brethren to fill the offices for the year : —Bros . Lieut . M . C H . Hastings S . tho formation of this Lodge that the officers installed are all belonging to the Navy , and the reason assigned is , that a good many of the members belong to that Service . The banquet-room was gaily decorated , the brethren having enjoyed the good things of this life , the usual Masonic and Loyal toasts wore proposed and heartily responded to .

Deep regret was felt at tlio absence of the District Grand Master for East Jamaica ( Right Worshipful Hon . Dr . Hamilton ) , caused by indisposition . The brethreu retired at the small hours in the morning , when H . M . Dockyard steam launch conveyed the Kingston brethren to their destination .
